Bought this lens last week for my beater camera, an EOS 2000D. So far I love it. It's good enough for its price (177 EUR all in!!). Built quality is fine. Sharpness is acceptable (I shoot RAW) and AF seems to work ok (need some more testing to properly judge it). I have much more expensive lenses, but they don't render so much better images that justify the high prices. For occasional snapshots this lens blows every iPhone away.

I've just ordered one of this and I'm waiting to be delivered. Taking into consideration that now I'm using a kit lens (Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 III) with no stabilization I believe this lens is going to be a good upgrade for me. Hi tehere! New update. I've changed my camera also, Canon eos 77d, and I used my Tamron 18-200mm. I have good results with this lens for the moment.

Thanks for the video! I'm a bit late, haha. Retired builder in the us. Beautiful building! So on with this, I have often surmised that the reason lenses are not as sharp in the corners as the center, has to do with DOF and that the distance from the corners are greater from the camera than the center. I do realize optical engineers take this into consideration, but projection of a flat surface through a curved lens back to a flat film plane has a lot to do with math. By stopping down the lens, the depth of field is increased, as you know. I'm posting this to help new photographers understand a little more of the optical chain. Fortunately, as of this date 2024, most lens problems are taken care of by modern in camera processors and some great AI photo apps like sharpness and chromatic aberration. Some apps can make a very cheap lens look great with little knowledge by the user. Thanks again!

Very nicely review video for this lens, I couldn't think of anything else you could've missed mentioning ! I'm between the tamron Vs Nikkor 18-200. Since im a sharpness nut I think I'm leaning toward the Nikkor now.
@stephenpartridge6866 жыл бұрын
The issue with this type of lens is lens sample variation, you can get two samples and get two very different results, I had two samples of the original Tamron 18-200 back in 2005, the first one was nice and sharp, the second was very soft, I recently got hold of a sample of the Tamron 18-200 VC and find it quite nice, not as sharp as some but definitely better then the one reviewed here...
@christopherfrost6 жыл бұрын
You're probably imagining things when you say your sample was 'better' - test it properly and empirically, and then you'll know for sure. Either way, if Tamron's quality control is as bad as you're suggesting then...that's their problem!
@stephenpartridge6866 жыл бұрын
Oh ok, the difference between samples that I've seen is HUGE, definitely not an imagination, even the manager of the store also noticed the differences between 3 examples of the Tamron 18-270, I've also noticed differences between samples of L series lenses, less then the differences between Tamron samples though......
@christopherfrost6 жыл бұрын
Like I said, if their quality control is really that bad, then that's their problem, not mine. I'm not going to spends weeks and weeks sourcing out dozens of copies of the same camera lens to give people a probability about how sharp a lens they buy may or may not be. No lens reviewer has time for that - and certainly not me

As a photo novice, I am finding your reviews helpful and informative. I just wish that I had read this particular review before purchasing! This lens does seem 'soft' which I find quite frustrating. It seems to perform best in terms of sharpness with an aperture of F8 or F10 - even then not as good as my Fuji bridge camera. Until reading your review, I thought that maybe I had a faulty copy. I am now trying to decide if I should sell it and upgrade - or maybe it's still worth using it for shots where sharpness isn't so crtical. Any advice? Although not directly comparable, a friend lent me his cheap Tamron 70-300mm (macro) to try, which seems sharper at the same focal lengths than the 18-200. So I am wondering if it's the zoom factor of 11x for the 18-200mm that poses a limitation for overall sharpness? (the 70-300mm having a smaller zoom factor of just 4x ). Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Regarding the zoom ring getting loose, I had a Tamron 18-270mm before it met its end on some concrete from about 6 foot up...anyway zoom creep was really significant after around 6 months. For the price though, I was very happy with it even though us Sony users do not get the in-lens V-C option since a-mount bodies have their own stabiliser. I'm now using the 16-300mm and loving it! Its quite an upgrade over the 18-270mm in terms of both build and image quality.

You are losing out on a bit of zoom, but I think 135mm is still a pretty long zoom rang. It is also like $200 more but I guess you're paying more for the brand and the USM tech.

I have this Tamron 18-200 and the Nikkor 18-140g lens on my radar. Which would be a better choice. Will it be the TAMRON which is providing a better reach at 200mm at the longer end or the Nikon one which I presume is better in terms of sharpness and image quality ? I bought the lens 2 years ago. While not the best lens I am happy with the results I get. I use it on a Canon T3 and some issues like chromatic aberration is easily corrected in post. Overall I like the lens. I am a hobbyist photographer, been one for 40 years and have used it for various types of photography. My overall result for my satisfaction is that the lens does well.

have you learned to love the lens?
@Jvaldes6094 жыл бұрын
totmirmis I did! Lol a year later it’s a good lens not the best but it’s great for what I gotta do I after all have bought the nifty 50 that’s a great lens for accompaniment. The sharpest is at 200mm 6.3 for portraits nice blur and good for wide group shots at 18mm.

@@Jvaldes609 is it worth it? Or would you suggest other lens?
@Jvaldes6094 жыл бұрын
@@mac8806 it’s a old lens now but if you get a good deal it’s a good beginner lens, but now a year into it I still like it but if you can find a lower F-stop at 200mm that would be awesome.

which lens is better for photography tamron 18-270 or tamron 70-300 vc usd , plz tell me chris bro
@christopherfrost7 жыл бұрын
They're totally different lenses. With the 70-300 you won't be able to get any wide angle shots

@tee_m Жыл бұрын
It will (EF mount) - it's cheap and not too bad.

All Canon mount lenses made since 1987 will work on your Canon APS-C digital SLR camera, except EF-M lenses
