Since that hole isn't threaded I think there's a tool that would let you thread it if you wanted to. Not convenient for you as a customer but a nice hack if it's important to you.

Great review! I just got my 15mm Shift and struggle initially due to incomplete set-up instruction. My IBIS was not working. Laowa forget to mention that we need to set the focal length in Sony parameters. Also, it does come with any protection pouch as Sony, Canon, etc provide, except a nice box. Not convenient for travel. Same thing with the Laowa Lens Support Tripod, no instructions and no fabric pouch...

Thank you for posting this! Given it's not blisteringly sharp, I would be curious to see how it compares to software correction? Perhaps take the Sony 20mm f1.8 for comparison? Given the G should be a lot sharper initially...

perspective correction lenses are super neat! I'd love to see you review older lenses like the nikkor 50mm f/1.2 and how they fare on a modern DSLR. As always, keep up the lovely video! (but don't forget to take time to rest please)

Technical question: doing the maths, the entire image circle of this lens covers the same angle as a standard 12mm (roughly) lens. Let's say that we're happy with simply using the 12mm, and cropping. I.e - the resolution is sufficient. Could it be that the 12mm is likely to have other issues though? Would it likely have more distortion, for example?

Looks a better bet than the Canon 24tse that I used to own. Interesting review. I may well add it to the bag!

Hi Christopher, thanks for this great review again. If you want a tilt option with this lens. You can buy the Nikkor (SLR) version and add a tilt adapter ( e.g. like Rokr ) to Sony. Yes it's mechanism is not that precise but it works quite well for ~50 Pounds/Euro's . It's how I use my Nikkor PC 28mm f3.5 AIS on my Z7 / Z6 (full spectrum).

Awesome video! I have a question, what do you think about getting the EF Mount version than adapting it to Sony FE with a EF to FE tilt/shift adapter? Thinking that would give it shift capabilities and shifting in two directions simultaneously. That’s my thought at least.

Would be interested in seeing an EF version of this lens, plus the Canon 0.7 focal reducer on the upcoming apsc RF 7d.

Hi there , Now what is the differences between the Blue Ring Version and the Red Ring version of this lens ????

I might get this one. The 15mm is cool, but the protruding front element scares me.

PLEASE review tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 Di LD lens (non-stabilized). it's pretty old for now, but i saw it for an acceptable price and not sure if i should buy it or not... your deep review would help me a lot! thanks in advance!

I really didn't knew about this kind of lenses. I only knew about the tilt shift ones. I whished you had recorded video while using the shift mechanism. I'm very curious about it now. :)

You can think of it as shifting the camera instead of shifting the lens. The camera normally captures the centre of the image from the lens and a rectangle centred around that - if you shift that then you're getting an off-centre portion of the image captured instead. The geometry is as if you used an even wider lens and then took an off centre crop of the picture in post. So that means when you take a picture of a building instead of tilting the camera up to point to the building which would make the parallel lines on the front of the building not parallel on the image, you can keep the camera absolutely level so the lines stay parallel, and then shift the lens up so you crop some of the ground out of your photo and bring the top of the building in.

Is there a reason why the lens was not shifted horizontally??? Is it to protect the lens company?

Looks decent enough! I have to wonder just how many of these Laowa sell, when I think of photographers who need a shift lens, I think of professional architechture photographers who probably wouldn't mind forking out a bit more for the first-party version.
@JeremiahBostwick2 жыл бұрын
Most companies don’t manufacture first party tilt shift lenses. The gold standard has basically been Canon’s TS-E line for a very long time as they’re the only ones that actual have a range of lenses in uniform quality. If you wanted TS lenses on Sony to shoot architecture with your A7R* as an example, you’d be adapting Canon lenses as Sony makes zero TS lenses. As another viable option, using medium format lenses with tilt-shift adapters also works.

This lens may be "fun" to shoot with but it's no way near a professional grade lens. I borrowed a GFX version for a architectural job and was disappointed by the output. Compared to ANY GFX lens this is soft, soft, soft. Low resolution, low contrast. Glad I did not buy it straight away after reading the reviews. Only trust your experience!

Why have the Ukrainian flag on your profile? Are you a diplomat? Politician or Arms dealer? Or are you just jumping on virtue signalling bandwagon? You should stick to photography as opposed to promoting war and propaganda. Unsubscribed.
