Actually it's Norman Rockwell. He was an artist known for his depictions of a perfect normal family life. The stepford mom and dad and the little tykes all sitting around a dining table on Thanksgiving with smiles on their faces

I am not laughing at him being abused. As a domestic survivor myself, I laugh at his story of abuse because for both he and I, its finally over. The laughter is partially a mix of the insanity of finding yourself in such a situation with someone you thought you loved, but also a relief that youre finally out and relieved to be alive and away from that insane chaos. The laughter isnt mockery at the abuse, its relief its over and shock it ever happened.

As he states at the end of this very video the clip is from, his sharing with the audience the abuse that he went through, and the audiences reaction to it, is how he has grown to handle it. As someone who grew up with an abusive, alcoholic, drug-addicted father, I can relate. I often make jokes about it to others myself and consider a form of therapy.

Mine had me cornered in the bathroom blocking the exit. It was either grab her to move her and get a possible charge or call 911, so I grab the cell on the bathroom counter and dial 911. She grabs her phone right after and dials 911 also. Us standing next to each other but separately talking to separate 911 dispatchers: Me: My girlfriend... Her: HE HIT ME! Me: WHAT?! I NEVER F***ING TOUCHED HER!! Her: YES HE DID!! Me: THIS IS BULLSHIT!!! Cops arrive, I'm outside talking to one officer giving my story and she's inside doing the same. Next thing the front door busts open hard and the detective hurries over, grabs and twists me into handcuffs way harder than necessary yelling, "You didn't f***ing touch her, huh? There's marks on her neck! (There wasn't) As I'm being pushed in the squad car I look at her thinking "wtf puta!" and I see her silently mouth the words "I'm sorry" with a sad look on her face. The next morning a detective opens my holding cell: "Your girlfriend came in and told us the truth. You're free to go. You can press charges against her if you want to. Me: "Nah, I'm just ready to go." I walk out and she is waiting for me. I try to get away by walking fast and cutting corners and turning around but her little Civic isn't letting me get away for at least 15 blocks. Tired, I give up and get in the car. 10 minutes of her pleading and the deal to not be angry with her was hand over $200 right away and take me to the casino...to which of course I lost it anyway. Message! Still together thirteen years later. 😄

I’ve been falsely accused before and that shit legitimately can stick with you. Regardless I hope you’re okay now and if you’ve been together 13 years that it’s stable at this point and not a Christopher and Erin Titus situation in the making. (That was around the time they imploded).
