There is a whole different perspective of those who were born disabled and those who became disabled as adults. I think it hits people much harder to have a an ensconced world, culture, and connections completely ripped away from them, than those like me who navigate this world never having had them to being with. Hobbies, pastimes, and interests help, but half of the people I've known were rendered homeless because of their situation, so they don't even get the dignity of escape.

I have had health issues and surgeries all of my life. I'm 58 now. I was officially classified as disabled at 17 years old. It's a miracle that I have made it this far. People don't want to hear about health and disability because it's not a positive subject. I have been divorced for 15 years, and I haven't found anyone else because being on oxygen 24/7 isn't usually on dating profiles...I feel your pain on that

I would say kind of... There are positives and negatives. I prefer Instagram and KZbin. Instagram has always seemed a happier and more upbeat platform. Since Facebook used algorithms and ramped it up, I'd remember there would be times when I'd feel alone and isolated from in real-life friends connected online. Until I realized the algorithm issue, I just had to be more proactive in reaching out to friends on social media. Your latter part of the statement is very true and had me think of the song by Bruce Springsteen "Human Touch". I think we need to keep doing physical social activities to satiate that need. Get back to not being passive behind a machine. Something like that.

I've been doing my best to remind people to try to be empathetic, even towards those they don't necessarily like or agree with. I never really thought about it until now, but you guys are absolutely right. Once we removed the ability to socialize and be together and form little communities because of the pandemic it’s like a hard reset of everyone is out for themselves. I really thought it would be a lot easier once the pandemic pretty much cleared as much as it did that people would go out to try to socialize and be together more, but it really hasn’t been as much as I imagined it it would be.

I’m very introverted and enjoy my alone time a little too much. But I do want to start being a little more social. I know that’s not healthy to always be by yourself. We need communication. So I am making an effort this year to try to reach out to friends and family that have been trying to reach out. I’m definitely not someone who picks up the phone and call anyone. Texting is more of my thing. But maybe I’ll try that this year as well. I definitely need to work on being more vulnerable. That’s one reason I don’t date think either. And trust issues.

I think the best way to build community, is to act like your taking over your neighborhood...Use the Bushido steps...whenever anyone sees you coming, they cheer, whenever anyone sees you leaving, they're sad to see you go. You act like your going to be the unofficial leader of the neighborhood...what do your people need? Can you give it to them...can you hook them up with people who can give them what they need and versa vice. Just always be on the lookout to help wherever and whenever you can. That's what I'm doing. It's very localized, but it's better than nothing.

For the wall it makes sense why there are certain sections where it’s not needed due to the natural landscape. There are parts of Texas that have very mountainous and high canyon terrain as well as in other parts of the country. Plus border patrol in those areas are high. And for the replacement of existing wall sections makes sense as those places are usually where most crossings tend to happen the most especially at port of entry’s. It is possible that people can cross in sections where no wall exists but it’s very difficult and dangerous.

(Monday through Friday) and a lot of CSPAN plus other channels that did nothing but political commentary and news reporting. Then 2016 happened, and then the global pandemic happened under the most inept president this country has ever seen. And here we yet again after the 2024 election cycle. Since we are living in the United States of Amnesia! And in an attempt to try to preserve what little is left of my sanity, I really do make a conscious effort to avoid the news, and avoid f*cking reality. So now I occasionally watch our friend Christopher Titus here, and other folks like Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and occasionally Jimmy Kimmel ect. I recently left a comment on one of John Oliver's videos that pretty much sums it up, saying that, "you know things are bad when you can only get your news and current events from comedians." As in a spoonful of comedy makes the current events go down! And also, I find myself watching true crime content, as in episodes of Forensic Files and Cold Case Files (not the garbage most KZbinrs put out) and have no problem with thoes videos, because they more often than not end with someone that committed crimes behind bars, unlike currently where we don't send a man that has been convicted of 34 felonies to prison, but instead we ended up sending him to the f*cking White House, so I just can't even anymore. And after this I will probably watch some cute cat videos or anything involving small furry creatures to try to lower my blood pressure. Sorry for the somewhat unhinged rant here folks, just felt like sharing my thoughts with a bunch of strangers on the internet, since isn't that the it's here for?
