Most religions have an adherent of 1 because many people simply decide for themselves what the standard is as they go along in their daily lives based on their limited experience, and it is always different to the next person in one way or another. I grew up in the orthodox church. As a matter of fact, my dad was a macedonain orthodox priest and I DID NOT know the Lord. I knew Mary, and the saints and the traditions. And then one day, I prayed for the truth and Jesus showed up in my life. Not the Jesus in the orthodox religion. But the True Jesus who died for us and rose again. Who shed his innocent blood and covered our sins. I never knew what born again was until He changed my life in one moment. The greatest peace fell upon me and wiped away all the uncleanness in my body. My walk with Him started 8 years ago and is going strong. And i can not get enough of Jesus. I wake up with Him on my mind. And go to sleep with Him still on my mind. That is the real Jesus. He took me out of religion and showed me life.

I am Serbian Orthodox and the choice of words the woman choose were a bit problematic, we do NOT worship Mary. We venerate her, we respect her as the other saints and as the apostles. They apostles and Mary knew Jesus personally and that is why they are important. Of course Mary had a more intimate relationship than the apostles had with Jesus so she is regarded a bit higher in that sense. She was blessed with birth and we give her the title Theotokos or Bogoroditsa. She is venerated for her contribution and part in the whole grand picture of salvation. The veneration of icons is more of a practice of having a role model and/or examples of humility. Of course Jesus is the best role model and that is why such a word "Christlike" exists, but it is at the same time very hard for us to emulate that because of our fallen nature. So by looking at how other ordinary people like the saints could achieve sainthood, we come to understand the process of theosis. We will never be sinless as Christ is, but we can achieve a more intimate relationship by understanding theosis and studying the saints and The Fathers. But do not make the conclusion that we have our own Bible and/ or that we don't even read the bible. That is incredibly narrow minded. I have a Bible that is approved by the sinod of Serbia and it has the same 66 books that the Bible should have. But what came first? The church or the Bible? Open your eyes people!!!

I'm catholic and nobody, besided those blinded by ignorance or pride, worship the blessed Virgin Mary or any other saint of God. Its called "devotion" like one can be a devote father o friend. It means to love and respect to a higher degree, knowing that love "will never ceases" and those who are with God and in God in heaven, love us here on earth as God wants us and them to love each other. They pray for us in His presence as we seek to be inspired by their faith and love for God and the human kind. We do not pray or worship the Blessed Virgin Mary, we ask Her to pray for us Her Son. Love is indeed relationship, and an everlasting one. We DO NOT worship statues or icons for crying out loud, as much as a mother doesn't love the picture of her son, but looking a the picture makes you feel closer to whom you love, that is the way us, human beings are made. We can do without statues or images. It's only art that speaks to your heart. We could live without Michelangelo's La Pietà, but I'm pretty happy we got to see it and experience, and feel on a human level that kind of beauty. Hope this clears things out. God bless us all.

​@@s.tesfamariam7613you miss the point, Mary needed to be a sinner so that Jesus could bridge the gap between God and man. Mary's DNA represents sinful men while the Holy Spirit is Jesus' God side. That is why Jesus is 100% man and 100% God and was able to pay for our sins. In order for Jesus to be able to pay for our sins, Mary needed to be a sinner too! She represents our side and need for salvation as Heaven and Earth meet. It is why Jesus is our strong God while he also manages to understand our weak human side by inheriting our flesh. If you study the book of Romans, you will understand this.
