Still have my Og VersaTrigger and love it. My church bought the DWe, but once they realized they still had to put up plexiglass, they took my suggestion and bought the efnote pro 703, everyone is happy. Feels better, triggers amazing and sounds better for a live setting. DWe is great for drum cover videos, but giant room sound is totally unnecessary for a live stage. Those cymbals felt like I was playing on a countertops, hated them.

@whophead68375 ай бұрын
Wireless is not much of an upgrade. 1.) drums dont need to be portable like guitars 2.)you still have to calibrate each drum so the time it takes to plug a cable in might be the same if not faster 3.) wireless needs batteries and good signal. The only good thing is that it looks cleaner

Another thing to note on size from a mix engineer perspective, for studio use it simplifies needing 8+ microphones and the space that takes up. could also wack on some wireless in ears for a fully cable free experience which would be mega, if it plays the same as it does in studio as it does in a touring / gigging scenario it's a mix engineers dream.

@@exilenl DW are known for making some of the very best acoustic drums on the market. So they better make great electronic drums if they want to be considered seriously
@JCo1301Ай бұрын
@@mandubienLet’s be honest. If DW was to come out with a kit like this, as expensive at it sells for, I can almost guarantee it’s gonna hold up, durability wise. With that being said though, they’re not exactly appealing to a very large market of people with a full set w/ everything you need costing nearly $10k. Outside of pro/gigging drummers, this price is just simply too high to take up very much of the market share for e drums. I honestly think that the next step for ANY company to turn this style of kit into an affordable piece, with nearly the same options, is going to be whomever can replicate this at an actual affordable price tag for most drummers. Glad to see at least one company though get this idea going (drums that can be both acoustic or electric), so either themselves, or other companies, can begin to work on making these type kits at a more reasonable price. And on top of that, even at this price point, the “cymbals” still need a good bit of work, to not feel like you’re just smacking a piece of plastic Tupperware. In time though, I think this all gets figured out, at a much more affordable price range.

The DWe kit is not in the middle. The decibel scale is logarithmic. So the E-kit is 2.2 times louder than the practice pad, the DWe kit is 10 times louder while the acoustic kit is 141 times louder. So it’s still at the very bottom in terms of loudness.
@ChrisTurnerDrums5 ай бұрын
That’s super dope, thanks for sharing this info :)
@ALightInTheAutumnRainАй бұрын
@@ChrisTurnerDrums It's a good point but the numbers seemed a bit off to me, so I had to refresh my memory. 3 dB is twice the intensity but loudness (while subjective) is generally perceived as only doubling with 10 dB. (That's why playing two instruments that play the same thing side by side isn't twice as loud.) So with the Pad (75 dB) as the baseline, the E-kit (82 dB) is about 1.8 times louder, the DWe (95 dB) is about 4 times louder and the Acoustic kit (118 dB) is about 20 times louder. Comparing the DWe and the Acoustic kit, the ladder is about 4.5 times louder with 23 dB between them.

It's seems the main issue with playing E drums vs acoustic kits is the ability to play quieter. Well, in my opinion, I don't think that's really an issue for people who can afford these high end kits, as they live in large enough homes with dedicated space where noise shouldn't be an issue for anyone. The natural sound and feel of an acoustic kit wins hands down for me.

Thanks for the upload, and going through as many considerations as possible when purchasing something. E-kits have come a long way in twenty years. They are a viable tool for studio, home and even live recordings. The days of Steve Negus, Bill Bruford, and Neil Peart working really hard to get workable sounds and sympathetic textures for the bands they were involved in out of electronic drums was a lot of hard work and patience. I actually like Neil's electronic stage the best out of all the eras of Rush. I think his most complicated playing is on the albums Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows and Hold Your Fire. But now technology provides electronic kits that can closely replicate not just the sound of acoustic kits, but also their playability, so you can't tell the difference as readily. I just wish they weren't as expensive as acoustic kits, because I believe they shouldn't be. The price tag on this just does not justify it. You might as well by an acoustic kit, invest in sound proofing and mikes, and you'd probably save yourself a couple thousand doing so. An electronic kit should be affordable, because it's offering players another option if other conditions aren't available. I honestly expected it to be anywhere from £1000 - £1500. But no more than that.

Thanks for the great video!! Question: I noticed you mentioned the only 2 reasons you could think of to use an E-Kit are volume and space. I use mine primarily for ease of at-home recording; while it won't sound quite as good as a professionally recorded acoustic kit, I find it gets me pretty close at a fraction of the time, effort, and cost it would require to record acoustic drums. Since you didn't mention this as a reason to use an E-kit, I'm curious what you recommend as the best way to record drums for at home recordings?

As the owner of a Roland TD50-K2 this video really makes me wanna throw it out in favour of this kit. I miss the feel of a real kit but I’m fascinated more by the connection tech. I’ve had issues recording without latency even with the USB connection of the Roland let alone midi so seeing that having only a wireless hub thing makes me worry it wouldn’t be viable in a production scenario. How does it feel to play with the DW cymbals? What is the difference to the feeling while playing between the DW cymbals and the low volume cymbals?

How does the kit feel on the wrists?

Two questions: 1) What materials are the cymbals made of? 2) How well does the fabric on the bass drum handle the hits from your pedal? I know you hit really hard. Is there any visible tear after that session? Awesome review. \m/

It seems to be awesome, what about positioning sensors?

Great video as always! It would be awesome to see you review an Ekit and compare with one in the same price point, say Rolands top of the line kit or something. Since Roland and DW are together now it wouldn't be that impossible. Just want to see how impressed with the current other flagship kits out there you would be, rather than having a low tier ekit for your comparison.

Definitely the best one Ive seen, wireless is the way to go, wonder how would go in a live gig situation? Tighten up the kick pedal then good to go, nice, hope it comes down here to Australia
