Back in the mid 2000s, Rey Mysterio alongside Batista & Undertaker were one of my favorite childhood wrestlers, back in the good old Friday Night SmackDown days. Rey Mysterio not only brought the lucha libre style by storm but also opened a door for future luchadors, high flying, & Hispanic stars of the ring. I thank Rey Mysterio for the childhood memories & he still amazes me to this day.

Lol, in terms of getting recognized without the mask.. I'll never forget. I was working at a Jack in the Box near Six Flags Magic Mountain in Cali. I was a shift manager and heard my cashier taking orders and saw Rey. Instantly knew who he was by his voice and the brief clips I grew up watching in WCW. I go up to him and ask if he's Oscar Guiterrez. He said yes, and I made my drive thru line slow because I wasn't helping my workers and was too busy talking to Rey being a fanboy haha. We got a picture, and that's still one of my favorite pics to this day.

The thing with the Freddy Vs Jason movie is that the stunt double for Freddy Krueger is credited as Óscar Gutiérrez and when Freddy leaps out of Crystal Lake, his leap and posture is almost identical to how Rey used to pop up from the stage during his WWE entrance. @@thequixoticangler3364 that's right. Legendary luchador, there are movies and comics featuring him, though his real name was El Enmascarado de Plata (The Man in the Silver Mask,) the fans just took to calling him El Santo on their own. After he became El Santo, he never made a public appearance without his mask and only once in an interview shortly before his death did he show his face, his own son didn't even know his father was El Santo for many years. El Santo still has some years on Rey of being "in character."

@@Just_A_Tim Just looked him up. Dang! Dude was Bob Dylan famous in his heyday. An entire adult life in character to please the people. Rey will probably get there. He's the most insanely dedicated wrestler of my era. IMO, the reason lucha libre is even a thing in America is because ECW brought the style here. WCW certainly was the peak for it as far as major TV goes. The Cruiserweight belt and division in WCW between 96-99 is pound for pound the best division ever. It was nothing but PPV level sht for 3 years. Rey was the obvious star. Eddie was the best talker. If not for them, I don't know what a luchadore is.

I got into wrestling in August 2003, so the perfect time for the cruiserweight division on Smackdown at that time, and watching Rey on a weekly basis alongside the likes of Tajiri, Jamie Noble, Chavo, Eddie, etc, gave me a lifelong love of wrestling. The first time I saw a live event it was November 2005, the week after Eddie passed, and Rey was in the main event of that week's Monday Night Raw. That he could put on that kind of a show after that big of a loss gave me even more respect for him than I already had. Much love to one of the greatest legends in professional wrestling history, much credit to CVV for all the success and fantastic interviews as always, and thanks so much for reminding me of the guys who gave myself and so many others so many great childhood memories 🙏

When i began watching WCW when the monday night wars got so mainstream and i first saw Mysterio wrestle I was in awe anyone could do this and he soon became one of my top three wrestlers. There's one specific Nitro match with Billy Kidman i've never forgot. He got Kidman on top of the turnbuckle and did a bulldog on him from there and while this might not seem like an amazing move now, at the time it was the coolest move i'd ever seen.
