What people don't notice is that chrollo wasnt acting on the date with neon. Yea he was disguising himself but he was truly geniun on that date, we can see his personality and charisma very well. But people always assume he was acting for some reason

People assume that because he is a psycho and the leader of a gang of murderers thieves. And he acts very composed, cold and distant until this part where he is trying and eventually succeeds in stealing a girl's Nen ability. So yeah, its not crazy to think he was acting. I think he was acting the charismatic guy to fool the girl, but he was feeling for Uvo when he teared up.

@@Afreshio you don't know if he was cold and distant. Because we litteraly didn't see anything of him before this. All we saw was him chilling in that place minding his own business like the rest of the troupe And I still don't think he was acting. But more like a social switch. He could be very silent and serious as default but he is still very social when he wants too. Like most people (like introverts)

Actually Aleczandxr, one of the best HxH youtubers out there, explains in one of his videos why Chrollo was sincere and natural when he cried in front of Neon. In the Manga, we see a similar scene with Chrollo where he is alone. So he is not acting to fool Neon or other people.

And here we are! One of the most iconic episodes in show 😁 Just want to mention too that while the Phantom Troupe makes a lot of sense as an organization, they are an exception for a reason. Even in the real world, most organizations don't have such a tight relationship between members. *The Akatsuki is closer to what most organizations are like:* Some members are in it because it's easier to do their own thing while backed up by it. Some because it makes them money. Some because they want to do the "right thing". Some because it's either the only place they can be or anywhere else would be the same or worse. And the people in charge have their own interest which they aren't sharing with every member (technically, 20% of the organization knew about the real plan), but still lead every member to further those goals without their knowledge. Frankly, all of that holds true to a lot of companies you might work at. Especially if they require a lot of people with different specializations.

Although they are very pragmatic when it comes to life and death like most meteor city inhabitants. Its the whole dichotomy of having bonds thicker than blood but thinner than strangers thing leorio mentioned. They have bonds and miss people they have ties with but all in all see human lives as secondary to purpose (which can vary with different people as we saw with pakunoda's stance compared to Phinks in later episodes)

What an incredible episode... HxH does such a great job in this arc. Its such an inteligent show that caters to grown ups, doesnt follow any shonen tropes even if it is one, action, conversation,motive has a meaning and is not there to cover runtime. Also, even if there's something like 1% Christian population in Japan, Togashi does a great job in the complexity of his "main antagonist" Chrollo. In fact, Chrollo is the embodiment of the evil and the good. I know that you have finished this arc so I will only speak about it... 1. Chrollo has twelve spiders, Jesus has twelve disciples 2. Hisoka betrays Chrollo, Judas betrays Jesus 3. Chrollo doesn't fear death because he's accepted it (in a kind of twisted way). Jesus doesn't fear death because he's accepted it (as what he needs to do to save mankind) 4. Chrollo loses his nen and then regains it. Jesus dies and comes back to life in three days. 5. Upside down cross on his coat. I think the upside down cross can be viewed as anti-Christ imagery but one of Christ's apostles insisted on being crucified upside down because he didn't feel worthy of being killed in the same manner as Christ. So I feel the upside down cross could be either satanic imagery, or a nod to that apostle's death and the meaning of being crucified upside down. So, it's very intresting that the boss of the most insane troup in hxh as so much ressemblance with some christian figure with a very complex duality between Good and Evil. It makes the personnage even greater and deeper. This scene is a perfect exemple of this duality because he is moarning one of his mens by killing a lot of people (people that are not "innocent" but who work for the mafia which is also very criminal etc) So there is a balance in his action that is pretty cool I think. Because of course what he is doing is evil and reprensible but he is also fighting against entities that are also bad. Great reaction as ALWAYS !!!

@@victordeluca7360 if you use logic in the mythology, since Christ's destiny of being "betrayed" and crucified was foretold as part of a divine plan, Judas simply played his fated part. On the psychology front, Judas believed that Christ would not allow himself to be executed by the romans and start a Hebrew rebellion against rome.

BTW, the requiem was a tribute, not a sort of "revenge". You can see after that chrollo was OK with not fighting the chain user and finishing the mission if not for hisoka doing that trick with the fortune. The troupe at this stage are very professional bandits and storming the auction to get all the items they didn't get to steal in the initial operation was always the plan. The only modification was the order to be "wild and showy" while doing the mission because that was their tribute to uvo's preferred way of doing things.

I didn't think he was a shallow character even without the backstory. He was a nice inversion of the "dumb brute" stereotype with togashi showing how cerebral his fighting mind was under the wild exterior. The trouble he ran in with kurapika is him expecting a duel and not a well-set trap.

It's called Black Voice: Mobile Fate Director. He can control 2 people at the same time through his phone and give them complex orders like speaking, doing tasks, kill others or simply drop dead. He needs to stab them with his antenna. The antenna and phone are real objects not conjured. He always carries 2 antennas.

I know lots of people dont care for Neon but this episode made me really enjoy her. Shes still a terrible person with all the human body part collecting and lack of empthy but shes very interesting. For once we get to see how she actually thinks and i think all the stuff she says about her own abilities and psychics is fascinating

Neon getting away from Melody makes no sense: 1. Melody definitely memorized the rhythm of Neon by now based on her footsteps 2. Melody was able to sense the phantom troupe members from a far distance, yet she failed to do so for Neon Spolier alert: For those who doesn't know, there are 4 conditions for Chrollo to steal an ability using Bandit's secret, otherwise i don't think he's willing to waste his time with Neon and let her get away from the building (the target needs to be alive in order for Chrollo to use their ability) 1. He must witness the ability in action 2. He must ask abut the ability and receive a response from the target 3. His target much touch the handprint on the cover of book which he conjured 4. All of the above must be done within an hour

It was her mistake not a plot hole. Melody let her guard down and didn't expect Neo would try to escape under their noses and obviously was distracted by her worry for Kurapika's path while discussing with Basho. She also need to Concentrate when she differentiate among various sound of footsteps.

SPOILER 15:24 funny how he changed...he didn't follow what Sarasa would have wanted back then but now he's acting as Uvo would have...he's probably doubting himself since the beginning from time to time but ultimately chose to follow his original plan : taking revenge for Uvo (and Sarasa) is matching more with his personality than forgiveness...that's why he's here and why he understands Kurapika more than anyone... I want them to meet one more/last time in the future chapters so badly!!! But also the difference is Uvo got what he deserved, reaped what he sowed, when Sarasa was innocent... it's sad to see what they became even though they knew since the beginning, actually living through it is hell

The requiem wasn't revenge. It was a tribute to a member who died in mission (more or less). The troupe was formed not as revenge for Sarasa, but as a deterrent / shield for meteor city. That was chrollo's concern initially, not some "protect the innocent" motive but to protect the children of meteor city specifically. Outsiders were not in the equation. Also, keep in mind that the backstory was of them as children, so as time went by and they gained more experience that personal motive evolved until we meet them as the battle-hardened veteran bandits in Yorkshin arc.

That's why nobunaga recognized their old selves in the heily, from before they travelled the world and became adults and grew past their childhood grievance presumably after making an example of Sarasa's assailants while growing the troupe's reputation in criminal circles and the outside world in general with operations like the Kurta massacre.

@@vizman8585 Yes you're right but I wasn't talking about the requiem when I said "revenge" it was my thought regarding Lindsey's comment : revenge is they are after Kurapika and trying to kill him (and it was the same with Sarasa's killers and Uvo was all about revenge after Sarasa's death) ...you're right saying that everything they do is not about revenge, their motivations are complex like the story itself ^^ the requiem and the creation of the PT serve other/greater purposes but revenge is still part of their actions ... Kurapika is taking a similar path bc of a traumatic event and revenge is not his only purpose either...but I would say he's wiser thanks to his friends bc he realized how precious they are and don't want to sacrifice them on the path he took bc of dead ones...Chrollo gave his friends a choice but ultimately as a leader his decisions made the PT members murderers, a target for people wanting revenge, a target for people like Hisoka etc. their deaths were predictable but still so sad bc, like you said, they changed growing up with the experience of that life and realized the weight of their initial decision and the fight btw the members when Chrollo was hostage says a lot about it I don't know if I said everything clearly as English is not my first language but anyway thks for your comment ^^

@@CR-hj2hk well, they were not after kurapika. if you remember in the episode following this only nobunaga wanted to stay and hunt the chain user while chrollo and the others had decided to conclude the operation and head to their respective homes wherever. chrollo was also able to convince nobunaga to see sense by reminding him that uvo and him chose to be a shield for the intelligence gatherers of the spider and that them dying is part of the life and profession all of them chose. that they can mourn a lost friend but still keep their priorities straight. that's why hisoka decided to alter his fortune and make it seem as though he was being manipulated by kurapika and imply that avoiding confrontation would not guarantee that the spider would not lose additional members, which made chrollo change his mind. if he didn't do that, the mission would have ended and the troupe would have left yorkshin. i also don't put too much weight on the troupe being murderers because it's pretty normal for the world of hunter hunter. killua's family, for one. gon, later in chimera arc. most hunters probably had to murder at some point in the course of work. that's just how their world is. for example, killing or murder isn't outlawed or a crime in meteor city, but an option if the goal was significant. that was the point of the story of the tramp from meteor city that got killed by police in the outside and one the elders turning comrades into suicide bombers to kill all involved in the case as retaliation. the logic is since meteor city is the dump of the world with inhabitants that are undocumented and as a result would receive no protection from laws in the outside, they would have to find ways for the city to be able to assert its will on the outside in some form, or else they would become the doormat of the world in addition to being a dump. this was pretty much chrollo's driving motivation. observe how matter of fact chrollo was when he told uvo that he will kill a lot of people to lay the foundations for the troupe. this was after they had buried sarasa and the shock of having a close friend killed and dismembered had worn off. this is when you see that growing up in meteor city is like growing up with the zoldycks. it's a different appreciation of moral concepts and what is a crime and what is not. for meteor city, the crime is not killing in itself but killing one of THEM. because as the city motto says: "we accept everything, but don't take anything from us." and to quote Uvo: "one of us is worth a hundred."

@@CR-hj2hk On the other hand, I did feel the weight of the troupe deaths but for reason that the troupe are rather interesting individuals who came from an interesting place. As for kurapika, I feel he wasn't that interesting of a character in terms of motive until the dark continent arc, because as you said, he had started to grow out of his grievance and see how much larger the world is compared to his initial motive.
