Awesome butterfly! How come it does not crack at the wings while you are making it?

I actually would like some directions as I'm watching. Like the colors you chose or even about how big the body is.

I will add this. Had no time when I made the video years ago.

i ususally ''play'' with softglass, and i have this problem too.. but if you just take care a bit and then cool down within 72h in a good ofen it will not break. this furnances are really expensive and dont rendist to buy if you dont or cant sell your work.. but, ofc, its funnier to have stuff that doesnt break instead of things which you'll never know 'does it break now?' - its my experience.
@Chrom3oxid13 жыл бұрын
@goat20101 , yes, please do, at first you will need some training routine, but its not so difficult. Important is the sequence and the direction of the flame..

Amazing, my soft glass would have cracked not having it in the flame for so long.

in Brazil we say: BORBOLETA. Gostaria de saber, se depois de pronta a "butterfly" vai para tratamento térmico? quantos graus?. (I wonder if after the prompt "butterfly" is going to heat treatment? how many degrees?)

I like to hear music or an good book all the day and when I am looking a good tutorial then I am interested on the hows and hints the fingers of the master gives me. I really dislike to get distracted by anything else and especially some kind of music I detest and so I choose to make this little tutorials without auditive background. You are free to choose your own favourites while you are watching.

Once the wings are pressed and pulled, do you have to flash them to prevent shocking or do you keep them out of the flame?
@Chrom3oxid4 жыл бұрын
Out of the flame but near on the heat so the tension will ease while they cool slowly down.

Lovely. But I'm sure it would shatter if I tried. (I couldn't afford the torch for borosilicate)

I work softglass. While learning this, you shatter nearly everything for the first three years.

Why is this called "glassblowing"?
@R.L._Stine_887 жыл бұрын
Its called Lampworking, because the torch sits on the desk much like a lamp. but people call it glass blowing also because when you are using tubing you do "blow" into it to puff out bubbles etc. but what you are thinking of is soft glass with blow tubes and puntees and stuff. I think glassblowing just gets the point across better to the common person

@baddonkey757 жыл бұрын
it does vget close to the flame ive flashed my fingers a time or two lol even the glasses make it hard to see the actual flammage and where your hand is lol
@Chrom3oxid4 жыл бұрын
Thats mostly a perspective thing. I have a lot of burnings on my skin but till now, and I started with flamework in 1998, I never burnt my hands or fingers directly in the flame. But I cringed myself seeing the video. It just looks weird.

@fourpointohh, no, I use the blue rod to form the wing. First, I melt some blue glass and applicate it to the mass I form the wing from. Then I use a tool to squeeze it flat and after this I can use the blue rod (or any other) wich is still hot, to melt it to the also hot wing (because both is hot and soft, they stick together for a short moment until the are to cool). So I use the rod to pull softly at the wing and give it its final form.

@cxjb1234 , the glass is effetre. But if you learn glass art in Lascha/germany, you learn with softglass from the start - and it cracks a lot at the beginning. Its a very essential part of the training to work with next almost no tension.

Yes, thats a scar from a burn. I have a lot of them. They don´t happen very often but they happen and I work for nearly 15 years now. Enough time to burn a little. ;-) I could prevent some but I don´t really care. Its part of "playing with fire".

God this piece is awesome but what a horrible video without and direction! Please talk and inform us on what ur doing or stuff ur using.
@Chrom3oxid4 жыл бұрын
Its called glassblowing, so the stuff is glass. You learn these skills by closely observing and by try end error. You just have to work with glass over and over and over again, every day, 6-10 hours, for at least 3 years. Then you can master most of the basics. As a teacher for 15 years my experience is that too much explanation is not helpful but distracting.
@Chrom3oxid12 жыл бұрын
No, its just something I learned and I am used to live up to with all my heart. I try to be a good teacher and you can be sure, there is nothing about it you couldn´t learn to do yourself - with time and dedication.

Howdy, ?, How did you keep this from cracking/exploding while you were working on it? I have been playing with fire for a while now but seem to have issues when my piece is out of the flame for any period of extended time. Ie. when working on the 2nd set of wings. I cant figure out how this piece you made was out of the flame so long & turned out beautifully.. Any tips for a fellow artist? Thanks you for the video, beautiful work!
