Many people know how to play, but few know how to teach...You're one of the fine teacher. Appreciate that.

This will definitely be very helpful when I have to play a chromatic scale for band. Although I’m still confused where the pinkies go for certain notes.

I'm glad it's helpful. The pinkies can be confusing. I feel like the keys are all out of order of where I would put them.

Returning to clarinet in my 50's after not playing it since college. This is super helpful, and your explanations are excellent! I'm only now realizing that I was using less efficient fingerings for some of the notes when playing the chromatic scale in my youth (although I got so used to playing it the way that I did, that I was actually super fast at it!). I'm going to correct my fingerings with your suggestions this time around to make things easier for myself as I'm "re-learning" the instrument. Thanks for this!

@@TheClarinetProject It's going fairly well, I think? 😆 These alternate fingerings are really tripping me up at times but I'm going to persist at getting better at them! My real trouble spot is going from F to F# (just above what you show in the above video, scale-wise). I don't like the sound of the F# when using the side keys (sounds weaker and sharp) but I realize this is a much more efficient way to swap notes and avoid a ghost tone in between them if I was to go from thumb to index finger instead. Not sure what to do about the sharpness of the note though? I also struggle with the notes around the octave break, but I'm guessing that's pretty normal. Especially when you consider I'm re-learning the correct fingerings around those pinky notes! I'm still working through which reed brand and strength I prefer, but I think I've started to narrow that down.

Simply an eye opener...Great job. Playing is different, teaching is different. Because, teaching is to make others understand what you mean. You must be a great teacher...

It can be. It's really just the scale that moves by half steps.

Thank you. That's a good idea for a future video! In the meantime, I suggest that you do a search for how to read treble clef music. That should help.
