Chrome Hill Wild Camping On The Dragon's Back.
Ever wondered what it's like to camp on the legendary Dragon's Back? Me too! Join us as we tackle the stunning Chrome Hill, another place on my list to tick off that I've camped there.
In this weeks adventure, we bring two very different tents to the test: the ultra-light OEX Bobcat 1 UL and the spacious Nordisk Oppland 2 SI. Thankfully Leon brough out something that came in real handy for me and provided me with a little bit more protection alonf with space!
Exploring the Dragon's Back
Chrome Hill, often referred to as the Dragon's Back, offers an exhilarating challenge for any wild camping enthusiast. With its steep inclines and breathtaking views, it’s the perfect spot for an unforgettable night under the stars. We’ll share tips and tricks on finding the best camping spots and setting up camp safely on uneven ground.
Tackling the Elements
The Peak District is known for its unpredictable weather, and this trip was no exception. From gusty winds to unexpected showers, our tents were put to the ultimate test. See how the OEX Bobcat 1 UL's lightweight design stands up to the elements compared to the robust Nordisk Oppland 2 SI, providing us with much-needed shelter from very strong wind gusts and horrid weather the following morning.
I do hope you enjoy this video, I know I did making it! If you did, please think about giving it a thumbs up, if you really enjoyed it, a sub would be awesome but what really helps me and the channel out is if you can share this video to like-minded people, people who enjoy our great outdoors! After all, it's free!
To stay up to date with the videos why not hit the notification bell, that way you won't miss up and coming prizes but most of all... The new videos each week!
If you would like to help the channel out a little further by throwing a few quid/dollars at us for fuel so I can reach these amazing locations, then just click the link below which will take you to the "Buying Me A Coffee" page where you can donate.

Ultra light bobcat. But you had to bring an external footprint to use in the vestibule, and an external tarp to help block the wind. At that point won't the collective weight of that gear be around equal to the regular bobcat? But for a load more money. I think I'll be sticking with the original bobcat 💪🐈
@AntSurviveTheNight
@AntSurviveTheNight Ай бұрын
Hi Jamie, no mate I took them to test. I don't have the UL version of both. Leon actually surprised me with the tarp. I had bought the footprint for use with all my tents as a ground mat, I was sick of cleaning the bottom of the tents. It's all in the name of testing. The tarp came in handy yes just to stop the wind blowing the tent into me when I was In bed but not essential at all, you would get that with any tent. Constant testing will be going on throughout summer so stay tuned matey

Rocking - Dragons? I thought you were in Wales for minute there. The Bobcat can take owt! I've done that - twice on Pendle, Sabden side and some hill in Devon, can't remember it's name near Holsworthy. I've not stopped around Derbyshire.

Hi matey, yeah I know what you mean. At the end of the day I'm a guy who loves a quite camp, sunsets/sunrises, beautiful views and leaves not trace. I'm on the coastline, the locals have nothing to worry about. Thanks though pal for pointing it out, Ant

Sorry wolfie, dunno where my head was on the last message I posted to you. I'm back in the game now pal. If I'm honest we saw just one solitary person about 9.45pm and that was it, nobody came up in the morning either. As I said though, does anybody actually have the right to that Hill anyways?
@trooperwolfie
@trooperwolfie Ай бұрын
@@AntSurviveTheNight lol, no worries. Apparently it's owned by the nearby farmer, there are signs on the other side of the hill near the farm saying it's private land and to use the permissive path, but we still banged straight up the side of it lol.
@AntSurviveTheNight
@AntSurviveTheNight Ай бұрын
I can't see that as there's gates to allow you through, and a gravel path, it did state that if it's slippy to use the other route, I wouldn't be trusting that sign if I'm honest. The farmer can't own a hill like that
