I have the previous model 714. Putting the 2 USB-C ports on the same side now means if your power brick is on the other side you will have to feed it round the back! The only major complaint I have is the volume level of the speakers is too low - and I watch a lot of KZbin spoken content. Eventually I bought a small USB-A powered speaker bar that I blue-tacked to the lid and have it permanently attached! I can only presume ACER found the speakers would distort of vibrate at higher output.

I have the previous version as well with the garaged stylus, not having that on this one is a deal breaker. USB C on the same side is not convenient. Right now we can charge on either side, not sure why companies are changing to having both USB C's on the same side. I think having the rounded corners is better as the one 714 I have can dig into your hand pretty good and get uncomfortable.

My last Chromebook was an Acer C710. I got an open box Acer 314 the other day. It felt like a Cadillac in comparison. The 714 is a beautiful device. Chromebooks sure have come a long way since the C710. No Android. Installing Linux was a hack. You had to disable secure boot. The 314 is a secondary device for me. I was actually looking for a decent refurbished/open box Samsung tablet. I have several restored ThinkPads kicking around right now. When they start to die off or I can't find good parts, I'm going to buy a higher end Chromebook for sure. I had an Acer Windows version of this convertible a few years back. I really liked it. Acer is so much better at Chromebooks than Windows machines.

I'm holding off until a Chromebook Plus model comes out with a 3:2 screen. My 713 is so good for productivity because of that ratio, that I can't go back. Once you have that it's so hard to go back.

My Spin 713-2 is over 4 years old. The trackpad is getting sluggish and has areas of non-responsiveness. So it's getting time to replace it. I was hoping to learn something about this Spin 714. But seriously....do people purchase these because of the chamfered or non-chamfered edge? The first 5 minutes were all about the chamfer! I'm still interested though. But I do like my current screen dimensions, and the 714 screen isn't as bright based on the nits stated. Until recently, my Spin 713-2 has been trouble-free, and works well for my retirement needs. I bought it based on the first CHROME UNBOXED review I ever watched!! I trust this channel. THANKS for this video!

I bought an Acer Chromebook Spin 714 at the start of 2024 as it was on offer with £100 off the normal price, and it came with Intel 13th gen i5 processor with 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD and a stowable charged stylus. Does the latest Spin 714 have a stowable stylus?

Got this one a few weeks back, everything's great except the trackpad. It feels nice but lacks a lot of feedback; it will often not respond to small movements and sometimes takes half a second to register any movement.

Yeah if you have an Android phone that will unlock it for you but agree if fingerprint sensor would be a huge benefit.

I love this device but I and several others are having an issue with it restarting after sleep. Start typing, it'll hold a key then restart. I hope it's a software issue that can be fixed but if not it might need to go to best buy :(

Hey don't say that about corners lol. When I flip it while laying in bed I used those corners to scratch my fingers especially when my thumb finger feels itchy 😂😁😂😁. I need more convincing on this new one.

What games do you play that push the fan up? On my 516 ge, even untitled goose game runs the fan up. But 2016 doom runs fine

I'm very glad I purchased a _pre_ "Chromebook Plus" branded Spin 714 (on sale at Best Buy), which included a _built-in_ stylus. Of course, I got all the "Plus" software updates.

Great review thank you. I'm looking for a Chromebook good for business, mostly video meetings. Is there one you'd recommend over this? I need at least 1 usb port, and I don't know if this is a thing but I'd rather not use headphones for meetings if it's possible to use the internal speakers, or an external speaker connected by usb. @@Ramg77 the only Lenovo products I have are provided by my employer so I’ve not had to deal with them, thankfully. Acer were argumentative to the point of trying to tell me I was providing false information etc and refusing to repair under warranty after they stalled replying until the warranty expired. Absolutely disgusting.

I like Chromebooks but difficult to get excited! I have the Spin 714 from 2023 before that an Acer R13 from years ago. I personally don't really notice the difference, they do their job but nothing magical and the looks and build quality seem much the same to me. Most of the time for me the fingerprint scanner doesn't work and the option to sign in with a mobile phone doesn't appear on the screen, so no advances there in tech!

Hi, could anyone explain to me what the codes actually mean? e. g. what does the H in CP714-1H mean? I bought my first chromebook 10 years ago and have been using chromebooks since then. The reason for me to buy was they were all fanless and had an SSD. I haven’t been into chromebooks the last 2 or 3 years and now decided to search for a high-end device without a fan. All across the net, whether specific devices are fanless or not isn’t even mentioned, which in my experience is something new. Even the manufacturers themselves are including every single screw in their specs list, but passive cooling or not is treated as not relevant, which is really bothering me. I'm searching for a high end chromebook without a fan and there seem to be fanless models even in the Spin 714 line of the newest generation. Could anyone help?

I say this a lot, but having the two USB C ports on opposite sides of the laptop is VERY important. Being able to plug the charger into either side is very big for me and I will not buy a Chromebook that does not have this feature. I like Acer Spin devices, but they just seem to constantly make 2 steps forward 2 steps back decisions. With this new device they once again moved both ports to one side and ditched the stylus.

I don’t get why no manufacturer is copying Apple’s trackpad with the haptic feedback. I honestly can’t go back to a diving board style trackpad with physical clicks at the bottom after getting used to my MacBook Air’s trackpad.

Yea, that is one of the big reasons I started using Apple laptops was because of the buttery smooth trackpad. I think the Microsoft Surface laptop 13.8 inch is using a full haptic trackpad which feels very similar to Apple's.
