it's an amazing thing to suddenly learn of the sheer size of these buildings being able to entertain several thousand people and just think of all the space needed for those Elizabethan collars

Love your videos. I’ve always wondered, how does a building get buried that deep? Is that a normal occurrence due to time? Quite interesting.

The queen came there with 1500 people… that’s ridiculous! I know nobility were big employers, but 1500 people (as a travelling party, she had more at home!) to get only one person through the day, that’s absurd. Something went horribly wrong after the Norman conquest.

What do they do after they dig up the structure walls? Fill it back in?

There are occasionally times where wall lines are covered with clear plastic and displayed in situ or similar but from all the archaeologists I've chitchatted with mostly filled back in yeah

If there is a possibility of follow up excavations, we often put plastic tarp down over the floor of the unit and then fill the hole in. The tarp separates the backfill dirt from the unit floor.

Sorry, but the "expert" is totally wrong at @15:19. Does he think the masons were fools back then? This curved pieces were formed in a mold just like every other brick. Why would anyone 1) hand craft every single one or 2) do it at a work bench? He pulled that nonsense straight out of his a$$.

Yup. There's the "Time Team Classic" channel that has older episodes, but not all of them, unfortunately, and not in order :( The full series used to be on KZbin some years ago, but then some a**e began restricting the viewing of *some* episodes and not others. And it wasn't Channel 4. They'd have enforced copyright on all the episodes. I miss the show.

@@thhseeking it really is a mess. I've watched all the Time Team Classics episodes because I know they are directly connected to the team behind the series. Everything else is either on Chronicle or some other "History Hit" channel. At least it's not behind a "subscriber" paywall I guess.

Since the three day Time Team digs rarely actually find anything, are there any follow up episodes that revisit sites with actual discoveries?
@thhseeking
@thhseeking Жыл бұрын
Not many. A fair few have been subsequently investigated by University teams. The three-day digs are largely to see what's there or not, and then the reports are handed over to the relevant institutions for follow-up. After Time Team finished up, I saw a follow-up episode where Mick explained the process that the crew went through before and after the digs. They had to put forward a proper archaeological proposal and then write a report afterwards. That's where the "record" bits come in that they keep mentioning when closing up a trench or going through later archaeology. Unfortunately, not every University can invest the time or money to immediately follow up on Time Teams findings. But at least with the post-dig reports someone in later years can go back. Gotta keep building big aircraft carriers and buying over-priced aircraft :P

Why would they need safety helments when they are in the trench scraping away and there is nothing above to fall and hit them. Just stupid british regulations I suppose.
