Good info Pete. I would add a #7, shocks/struts. You absolutely have to have high quality rear shocks and front struts that are properly valved for no prep surfaces and are at least double adjustable. If you are doing back of track no prep racing you will need front struts with as much extension travel as possible for maximum weight transfer. Watch Dig or Die type races (VERY sketchy surface) and you will see all the top cars go down with the nose WAY up in the air. BTW, good luck getting a #6 with the skills even close to Lyle!!

Thank you for putting this out. One of the cars that has incredibly surprised me is the SRC truck: it's been quite competitive for a while with a carb and no electronics. I know he has some sort of ignition delay box but it's a stock chassis (stock leaf even), mild steel, 23 degree SBC with turbo/carb, don't think there's any traction control
@realgoodatdoinstuff9002 жыл бұрын
This video is really about tree side no prep specifically. I’m guessing the truck you speak of is back side? If so that’s totally different
@kinotransam2 жыл бұрын
He is speaking of Billy the Kid with the white and blue S10 and is quite legendary in its own right. The amount of success they have had at both front side and back side no prep races with that truck is insane for the lack of data acquisition. Basically he just replays back a go pro mounted beside his head that shows most of his gauges. Although Billy is currently in the process of completely reworking the truck with a 18° aluminum sbc and efi.

You placed some emphasis on the driver. Being OG, from the -70’s, we put a lot of focus on driveability. Driveability giving the driver the ability to control things like, launch, wheel spin, etc, before there where boxes to do it. I’m talking primarily linear / proportionate throttle response. My question is, does the driveability of the tune in a modern system affect the effectiveness of traction control, etc, or are the factors that make for good, mediocre, or bad, driveability, overridden by the system.

Common sense for sure all 6 items. The only thing I would add is maybe listed as 2.1. After the race car and the motor/drivetrain you got to have a car that will reliably go down the track every time you line up. Maybe at first its not the fastest yet ( that’s where #5 comes in) but is reliable and can be made faster. At my local track I see so many really nice looking, rowdy sounding in the pits, high dollar cars that simply fall on their face or flat out break at the start line. The owner spends all day in the pits trying to fix it and never makes a complete pass. It happens a lot around my area so maybe I’m unique is seeing this but I would rather start out with a reliable A-B combo first and then improve on it.
@chuckjenkins19682 жыл бұрын
Beer Money is a freaking show car….. not fair! Beautiful and fast😮
@jeffbear53172 жыл бұрын
Your 100% correct that it's just a matter of time before a big dollar car will be needed to be competitive in small tire . I wish it would stay the way it is now. Small tire is popular because it's exciting ( reminds me of the 60s Altereds because you have to drive the shit out of them) and the fack that a normal person could build a competitive car on a normal salary. I hate rules and sanctioning body's but unfortunately if there isn't something put in place to preserve the class it's just going to turn into who has the most money wins deal like so many forums of racing have become and then the car counts start dropping and the class dies out.
@gullreefclub2 жыл бұрын
I totally agree and unfortunately I think that time is coming much quicker than most people actually expect. I say this for one reason and that is the Mega Cash Days show Pilgrim/Discovery just finished filming out in California was Small Tire event and if I am not mistaken Street Outlaws is going Small Tire. Shawn aka Murder Nova has converted the OG to smalls with one of Ryan Martin’s older Proline Hemi/ProCharger sets ups and Daddy Dave has a new car for NPK and his Nova is going to be Small Tire

The Davis stuff is a good asset to have, but is there any cheaper alternatives? Some may not have 2500+ to put into a TC device like that.
@rpturbo2 жыл бұрын
I don't think there's anything that comes even remotely close, that's anywhere nearly as effective. A crude TC can be done with Holley by some basic I/O functions and 2 wheel speed sensors, but again, no where near as fast or effective.

@danielsullivan98652 жыл бұрын
Many variables, engine compression, engine rpm range, compressor wheel, turbine ar. Wheel speed sensors and back pressure sensors are a must to verify proper sizing. Twin 6973s with a .96 AR turbine housing is a very good choice. Call COMP TURBO. They have twin 70 mm ball bearing turbos that would be perfect and they can give you pretty good ballpark sizing.
