Me too. I don't get why people don't like it. While I can recognise flaws (Caspian and Peter should have switched places for the Miraz fight, the deus ex machina ending with treebeards and posiden even if it looks cool is still deus ex machina), at the end of the day I look past them because I care about the characters, I especially liked seeing Susan get some action (I was so dissapointed she didn't in the first one. Cause a bow and arrow that never misses is badass), the political stuff reminded me of early GoT (not the crap season 8), and the battles are effective and well shot. I think the issue was it's definately not a kids movie like a lot of people wanted. I was ready for something darker and grittier, I guess not everyone was.

Prince Caspian was the best in my opinion, the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe being a close second. I did not hate this movie, but I felt as though the "magic" (if you will) of Narnia, that Adamson so captured through cinematography (combined with the score), was really lost. Too much of this film looked fakey-fake and it had serious pacing problems for me. I liked the arcs both Eustace and Lucy went on but the rivalry between Edmund and Caspian felt so forced. I think it could have worked, but it was done wrong. Not a bad movie, but not great.
@philipb74002 жыл бұрын
I know it’s been 8 years but I agree mostly, though Caspian and Edmunds rivalry was only like one scene. That scene was not the best though.

@etcetera19957 жыл бұрын
Joy! Well, the Narnia books were more fairy tale fantasy than LotR's high fantasy (even though the two subgenres weren't really established yet.) Sure, both have their respective emotional impacts, but Lewis based his work more around spiritual, more allegorical stuff whereas Tolkien was inspired by the Prose Edda and the Ring of the Nibelung, and that translates into the movie adaptations as well.

Why so much Prince Caspian hate? It's not that bad, come on! Voyage of the Dawn Treader is an example of the movie being better than the book. In the book, each chapter is basically a stand alone story, and there isn't a forward-moving plot. The movie has elements that connect each island/adventure to each other, and this movie to the other movies. It took me a long time to read through VoDT (not as long as Silver Chair, dear god, but still a long time) but I was surprised by the movie.

And I am sick of people who are Narnia fans but say "I will REFUSE to see the next film if it comes out cuz I hated Dawn Treader." For the record the Narnia books are amazing, I loved all of them and remember reading them fondly in 5th grade. And this one was probably my favorite. The Adventure was great. I liked the first movie. I saw the second one and thought it was Ok (though it bored me a little). But I totally hate this piece of crap because I read all the Narnia books and this was my favorite. The story is totally different from the other ones. It's not about fighting a villain but exploring all this islands searching for Caspian's father's friends and trying to reach Aslan's kingdom beyond the sea. But the studio turned this movie into a Hollywood generic piece of crap with a made up villain and a super stupid climax. The original story was totally anticlimatic. It doesn't have a final battle or anything. It just reaches its goal and ends, just like that.

Agustín Prieto what villain? The only villain in the series is the white witch but they already dealt with her in the first movie. This is coming form someone who has only seen the movies and I love all of them
@rosalindhoffman61754 жыл бұрын
Agustín Prieto I’m super late, but...a book is made to be put down and picked up again, and the events/descriptions are what entertains people’s eyes. I loved the book for its journey, but in movie format, there would feel like there’s no purpose or meaning to anything, and it could be boring. I think they did an alright job, trying to make a story fit for a tv series into a movie.
@AgusSkywalker4 жыл бұрын
@@rosalindhoffman6175 I don't think they did a good job. If you can't adapt this story into a satisfactory movie, then don't. But they turned this really interesting adventure into a generic action film. This movie sucks and worst of all, it's boring.
@rosalindhoffman61754 жыл бұрын
Agustín Prieto my liking of the movie has a chunk to do with nostalgia and the benefit of the doubt, that’s true. It was not the best. But I think they tried, and I also think that it would have been weird to do Caspian and LWW then not give a go for the Dawn Trader. LWW stands on its own, but Caspian does not - at that point they had to somehow figure out a movie script. Yeah, it was was boring, but a movie without a direction feels worse than a movie with with a boring meaning. The books had this fun air of ‘let’s do stuff’, the feel may be off-putting to the previous movie-goers. Not to mention that ending a trilogy on a let’s have fun tale...idk, if I was the studio I would be pretty tied. I love it cause it’s Narnia and to me it feels like Narnia, and it didn’t mistreat character that much either, so I’m sold. I got a low bar for being entertained, I’m the first to admit.

SPOILERS I GUESS i'm pretty sure in the last book that's what happened, the only one left out was Susan because she either didn't die or she was just "above" Narnia (meaning she thought she was better than it) so she was not welcomed to return when she died. and then Narnia itself dies and the go to like a new Narnia which is I think symbolic for heaven, or Aslan's country, i have not read the books in a long time but I believe this is what happened.

@k1tkat-kate12 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. You couldn't do Dawn Treader as it was. The book is episodic and there's no motive for them going off to the ends of the earth, they just want to. If you did that with a movie people would complain there was no plot. Because there really wouldn't be any plot. I like how they keep tying in Jadis, since she is an important character. It makes sense. She was the original villian. Even if its just in memory, she'll always be in Narnia.

The first one is a fair adaption of the book, this coming from a guy who has only read the first in the series. The villain was cool, the side characters neat, and the overall look was grand and pretty. The only issue I had was with two things: The Pevensie children, cause while they're not badly acted, it's just that the writing for them is kind of clunky. The other thing is that most attempts at comedy just sort of falls flat. The second one is plain fantastic, much better than the first one I think. The characters get the proper amount to do and have great arcs, both the dwarf and Reepicheep are super side characters, and the more serious and gritty tone is done really well. The third is admittedly the lesser one, though far from bad according to me. The pacing feels more rushed, the plot has a few noticeable holes in them, and both Edmund and Caspian's arcs aren't that interesting. It does make up for it though with a more adventurous setting, feeling like something along the lines of Pirates of the Caribbean or The Oddysey. Plus, Eustace character development is really intriguing.

@CrassMufumbu I have to disagree, the movie had very little resemblance to the book and tried to be like Pirates of The Caribbean.....I was so disappointed because it is my favorite novel out of the series and I feel like they have lost a part of Narnia that can never be acquired again ;(

I enjoyed the first two films, but can't say that I'm all that interested in this one. I certainly don't need to see all this in 3-D.
