everybody but Susan died in a train derailment. Only reason Susan survived is that she grew up.

the last book really gave some of that good ol' existential dread Alsan really just shut off the world and made it void. how terrifying.

Jesus christ that last part is insane
@GotA-do4ob
@GotA-do4ob 13 сағат бұрын
Actually it gets even more insane because the new Narnia is an allegory for Heaven. Digory, Polly, and Emeth were killed upon entering the stable (supposedly) while everyone else except Susan died in a train crash, bringing them all together again in paradise. The implication is that Susan will not go to heaven because she was faithless along with those Narnian's which rejected Aslan.

You missed an important aspect of "The Last Battle". The protagonists return to Narnia by dying in a train wreck.

Fantastic video as per usual! :) Dawn Treader was always my favorite book, and it certainly has the most unique entrance into the world with the water spilling out the painting. Lewis definitely got creative with that one Also... could you say that Narnia in the Last Battle went a little... Ape Shift??? I will show myself out now.
@JPKloess
@JPKloess 7 ай бұрын
Thanks John. Prince Caspian is still my favorite (though Horse and His Boy has grown on me), but the water coming out of the painting is a great transition into Narnia.

On the tree, the reason the wardrobe was able to create portals was because Digory buried the teleporting rings along with the apple core, and the tree absorbed their power. Also like how you skated around the fact that everyone died in a train crash to get to new Narnia while Digory, Polly, and Emeth were killed upon entering the stable. Gotta get to heaven somehow, lol

Usually people who read the series in timeline order drop the series long before finishing it. Most people agree that the quality of the series diminishes, from the first published book being the best to the last book being the worst. Most people who finish the entire series read the good ones first and got invested. Only finishing the last few books because of feeling obligated to. Hollywood ran into this problem Big time when they tried to adapt the books into movie scripts. With each movie being harder to adapt than the last. Here's the plot twist: The Silver Chair (4th Book Released) is a personal favorite of mine. I love it but I'm completely aware that it is not a great book at all.
@JPKloess
@JPKloess 7 ай бұрын
I've never heard that take before. I know people don't like the Silver Chair, but I've never heard of a downward trendline generally in the series. Prince Caspian was my favorite as a kid.

I’d disagree well it’s all subjective of course but I read the books in chronological order so did my mother and basically everyone I know and they never had any problems with it. I think both orders work fine and it’s really up to the individual if it works for them.

So even though Susan went to Narnia twice, and lived there for 15 years, she fooled herself into thinking it was all childish imagination, because she pursued womanly interests? Even J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter) and Phillip Pullman (His Dark Materials) criticized this.
@oremstale8558
@oremstale8558 12 сағат бұрын
It wasn't because she persued womanly interests, it was because she focused more on earthly things and rejected narnia. The rest of her actions are just a result of that lost connection to Narnia

You didn't mention how the society made up of all who went to Narnia in the past, got to Narnia at the beginning of The Last Battle. They are at a train station waiting for the others to come by train so they can get together and talk about Narnia. Later after they are in Narnia they all think back about how they came to be there and they realize there was a train wreck at the station. All of them died in their own world in the train wreck and were sent to Narnia as a result to help out in the last days of Narnia. Then they go to Aslan's Country (Heaven) which they call New Narnia which looks like bigger and perfect untouched Narnia. There they figure out they have died in their own world. One of the things I like that one of them says about New Narina. "I couldn't feel downcast even if I wanted to." It pains me that Susan turns her back on Aslan and even though she's a fictional character I want to pray that she sees the truth and comes back to Aslan. How could she do that after everything Aslan did for her? She infuriates me. Susan is a coward and cares way too much about her looks.

I wonder if she is there so we may wonder if we are heaven-bound or not
@meathrander
@meathrander Күн бұрын
@@ashari7545 I think it shows us if we put other things like our looks and makeup and being popular like she does before God then we are worshiping ourselves and these things and not God. She spent all that time in Narnia and even grew up. Even when she was in Narnia she worried herself with getting married and often refused to do what was expected of her. The fact that she says to her brothers and sister that it was just a pretend game they used to play makes me so sad. It's like she is turning her back to God and the truth of what went on in Narnia in exchange for a life of wealth and fine things. You'd think she would have learned something from Aslan but instead she ends up only wanting a similar power that Edmond wanted from the White Witch. It's why I always say the furthest from God often become the ones who come to God. The people who have seen great evil and lived with great evil are the ones who seek God and find Him over the ones who have lived comfortable lives. I know people who were into the occult and are now some of the best people I know. They seen what Satan is capable of and turn to God for refuge. I also know people who grew up going to church and are now further away from God than anyone else I know. These people have never looked the devil in the eye but hold great chips on their shoulders for God for reasons that are silly or meaningless. It's always the people who hit rock bottom who are on fire for God. It's the ones who have truly suffered who turn to Him that stay loyal to Him.
