As I remember, Lavos was not stealing lifeforce from the planet, but rather their DNA and evolution. Thats why the final form of Lavos mimicked a human form, though its very core being was simply that of a plant-like bulb.
@thegamersician

I could have SWORE someone said something about Lavos stealing the earth's- or maybe humanity's?- life? I could also totally be making that up lol But it definitely had a similar vibe imo. I think someone mentioned it on my live stream, too. Just thought it was a little funny parallel, whether 100% accurate or not. Thanks for watching!

@@thegamersician According to the fan wiki, seems the SNES line of Lavos directing the planet's evolution is missing in the JPN release and retranslation, meaning it is just harvesting the planet's energy, but then the concept is (re-?) introduced in Chrono Cross, so, we're both right?

Ha! So interesting how much translation can change our understanding. I've also played CC many times so it could be my knowledge of that game bleeding in. Either way, thanks for the convo and hope you get to check some more vids!

So many things to talk about this game, but first, another great video. Now, i want to talk about some of the characters, like how Magus in the end is just a little boy that sees his mother going crazy and his sister just disappear in time; Marle wants to see the world and flee from her responsabilites and doing this she understands those things; And finally Lucca, that change events, just so her mother could walk again. This game seens simple at first, but is complex when see it closer

I totally agree! Simple delivery, but the more complex themes do unveil themselves. The characters, still, seemed flatter to me than something like FF6. I wonder if it is truly just a matter of... time? Maybe if I got to interact with them more, I'd feel differently. But all-in-all, even if the characters didn't strike me as vividly as other JRPGs I've played, I loved it! And all the points you make, I see what you're saying. Like how Magus' cat follows him and only him. Such a great touch. Thanks as always for weighing in, Raph!

Seriously you need to find whoever it was that stole your SNES and give him 30 years worth of ass kickings. He stole your nostalgia! Great job on the video though, I love watching reviews of this game from people who didn't get to play this day 1 in 1995 just to see how cloudy my rose tinted glasses are.

Although I know that Toriyama created both designs, Chrono Trigger and Dragonball, I only initially felt the need to compare both. Son Goku has such distinct features and such a distinct character that I never felt his "vibe" in Chrono who is much more chill and calm (duh, silent protagonist LOL). I also never saw the need to compare the other characters. They are so different in my mind with how they act and what their background story is that I never confused them. Love how distinctly you analysed the music and the sound effects. That was lovely and a nice throwback to the playthrough. :) And now I need to watch the one about FF6 since I missed that somehow. XD Two of my most beloved games … Let's go!

Oh certainly! The way the way the characters act and are in game are VERY different than how their visual counterparts carry themselves. I was talking strictly in their appearance, not in their actions! And thank you- you know I love the music and sound in games probably more than anything. I see you enjoyed the FF6 vid too so let me check that one out 😂

well technically... we did? lol Does Chrono Cross count? It's sort of like Xenogears -> Xenosaga... indirect but connected. I feel like the fact of the matter is, you'd really need Akira on board, and it would be so hard to get the full band back together. Regardless... maybe we can count Sea of Stars?

Everytime I see this game and the main character, I always think of Tapion from the Dragonball Z movie, Wrath of the Dragon. Now I know Akira Toriyama did the designs for this game and Dragonball, but I wonder which design came first considering both Chrono Trigger and Wrath of the Dragon were released in 1995? Anyway, dont mind me nerding out to anything Dragonball related... Great video yet again my guy!! Cant wait for whats next! Day One Gang

@@thegamersician It's a great beginners RPG imo. Want something very simple and very easy to get into the genre? Good choice. It's definitely worth of praise for a lot of stuff. But, it's gameplay chops are outdone big time by a ton of other RPGs. CT's ideas often don't live up to their promise (e.g. combat positioning...great idea...but most of the game doesn't really allow you to make the most of it) People will say that "it was way ahead of it's time though!" with these features, but it really wasn't as other series (Lunar, Phantasy Star, Sorcerers Kingdom) had implemented it's ideas earlier and often to better effect. :)
