47:50 Strat-edgy forgot a fun detail too- If a chest exists throughout the timelines in the same spots- Opening them in the past means they are open in the future, but resisting the urge to open them until you can open them as far into the future as they still exist? Means you get an upgraded version of the item- AND can go back and loot it again in the past. Another example of how chrono trigger was ahead of it's time with well- time.

I remember being genuinely sad at the part where the other robots turn on Robo. It was painful to see his genuine confusion at being attacked by his own, who he clearly perceived as being a kind of "family" to him. I know the feelz. Being betrayed by people you thought you knew. People you trusted. Anyway, I, too, loved this game and would recommend it to anyone. Absolute banger. Great story. Fantastic soundtrack. They really don't make them like this anymore and that's a shame.

I'm kinda sad you didn't get to experience the way I did, the Final Fantasy Chronicles on PS1, had no clue what the game was as my uncle left it, and being a 90s kid, Toriyama's art style first drew me in with the cutscenes, and the gameplay gripped me and stayed planted in my psyche for years. Chrono Trigger truly is a timeless experience though, even today it still gives me goosebumps in certain sections.

One thing I loved about this game is how it even lets you collect the mystical chests multiple times by getting them in the future, then in previous eras (although some items are more powerful in the future, becoming mail in future eras, and vest in older one). Every time I start a new game, I go straight to Guardia forest to grind some levels until I get all of Chrono's techs up to slash unlocked so the section in the Cathedral is a bit easier as youll be able to learn Flame Whirl pretty early on and the snake type enemies have flame weakness. Another thing to note, dont interact with the pink bag just before Gato's arena at the Fair, its an old man's lunch, and he will not he very happy that you ate his food.

Glad to see you cover one of my favorite games of all time. I would recommend that new players take a look at a guide to make sure they see all the side quests towards the end of the game. I remember you saying that you're planning on covering Baldur's Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077's DLC, and Starfield next, and I'm SURE all of those videos are going to crush, so pleaaase don't be afraid to put your heart into them and stick to your longer format. There is so much demand for long retrospectives, and a long form Cyberpunk 2077 retrospective would be AMAZING, seeing as the DLC is about to drop and there aren't many deep dives into the game, and it being a Western RPG, it perfectly fits your niche. I just thought I'd give you some words of encouragement man! You're the best. I'd also love to see more Skyrim, Fallout 4, Morrowind, Oblivion, CRPG, and Western RPG content!

one of the things about doing the side quests is giving crono the Rainbow Sword and Sunglasses and then using Confusion (snes original name, forget its remaster name) and having Crono crit 4 times to a single target for like 15k each hit. Boy became a one man army.
@grantstratton22393 ай бұрын
Also when you get the Rainbow shell, you get the choice of one prism dress or three prism helms, the strongest armors in the game. You can steal a prism dress from the head of Queen Zeal's final form and a prism helm from one of her arms (the other arm has a megalixer, also worth stealing!) If you do the Black Omen in 1000 AD first, you can fight her again in the Middle Ages and again in the Dark Ages and get copies of the best helms for everyone (pick the helms from the shell) and best armor for all of the women in one playthrough. Frankly, almost every boss after losing Crono is worth stealing from, Queen Zeal is just the best example.
@LILAC_CHAOS Жыл бұрын
Theres also a Lode sword in the prison section which is a massive upgrade, Lucca will only be able to help you with the Dragon Tank if you wait the 3 days in jail. The pattern for bosses with 3 parts usually goes right then left, then center. Right hand usually heals and buffs, so thats always main priority.

I liked CT so much I got the rerelease on DS after numerous SNES playthroughs and IIRC did all the new content which apparently its ending acts as a lead in into Chrono Cross (which I never played but was supposed to be a sequel apparently). New Game + is how you get most every other ending (some IIRC literally cannot be seen without a second play through since they must be reached before or after certain story beats). You can also just not get Crono back which becomes its own alternate ending and find triple combo accessories that for some reason I could never figure out how to use that all relied on non-Crono comps. There is an ending that sees Magus or Frog as the victor in a final show down depending on if you did Frog's side quest to empower the Masamune, others you've mentioned, the "bad" ending which triggers if you lose to Lavos after taking the Epoch into 1999, and if you are at a sufficient level (and stocked on items) you can get the dev room ending

Absolute banger of a review as always. Oh, and before I forget, lemme put on my weeb hat real quick: Masamune is supposed to be pronounced "Mah-Sah-Moo-nay". Its a legendary Japanese sword from Japanese myth and if you play any JRPG ever made odds are you WILL find a reference to it, if not actually find it in game. Its their version of Excalibur basically.

How's I miss this being dropped 3 days ago?! Also even if you already touched upon it, one thing I lowkey always liked about chrono trigger even though FF6 had more characters and jobs? IT made up for it juuust a bit with a soft style of "character building" You could build a lot of the party actually pretty wildly different and have it work. Like I got bored of beating the game over and over with cookie cutter vibes of "lean into best in slot" so I made frog the healer with the big magic sword and leaned against making his MP pool nice and generous, made lucca the physical DPS with a specific gun, the skills that scale separately from the magic stats and a diet of tabs and marle as pure magical ice wizard DPS and for combos to go with frog. There is enough gear both universal, accessory wise, and unique per character to mix it up a bit for each person and I enjoy that a lot. And tabs can fill the gaps and there's enough spells techs and skills to let you lean all around the damn map.

Hilarious video😂. I just started playing this game last week after buying it on Steam. As someone like me who is very new (due to age and geography reasons) to JRPGs and turn-based games, this is damn helpful😂 I was born in Nigeria in the 2000s and didn't have access to JRPGs or many games like these and I have come to really appreciate the cool stories and great retro gameplay they have
@EvenTheDogAgrees Жыл бұрын
You may also like the Mother series, also known as Earthbound. Unfortunately, it has some of the JRPG annoyances like random encounters and transition screens when entering battles. Although you can often avoid them. And as you level up, random encounters with lower ranked enemies don't require you to enter battle, but automatically resolve without fully transitioning to the battle screen. But the humour in these games is fantastic. You fight enemies like new-age retro hippies, cranky ladies, rowdy mice, spiteful crows... And their attacks and responses to damage are character appropriate and hilarious. There's also this cowardly party member early on (it's been a while, but I think you ditch him soon enough) who constantly hides behind other party members, or apologises to the enemy whenever it's his turn. It's glorious. 😂 It's not on Steam, but I'm sure you'll be able to hunt down the ROM for a SNES emulator. Or you could buy the cartridges if you happen to have a SNES or GBA.

Since it was a US import it was very expensive and since it was also my first US Import I also had to buy a PAL-US adapter for the SNES. I also had to ask my sister to drive me to a shop in my city that had both of the items, the game and the adapter. It cost me around 150 Euros in today's money. A lot of money for a 13-year-old, but worth every cent. I have so many happy memories connected to this game, and 28 years later, the music gives me the sweetest nostalgia.
