Just.......Yikes man, it was needed since they were killing humans to build the machines but-yikes. Two, the fact that mother brain just so casually offers to erase Robo's memories so he can join her is.....also yikes. Just...the life of a sentient robot sounds like hell, especially when your thoughts and feelings and memories can just be erased, and the lax way they view it too like-like it's NOTHING....that's just something we as humans take for granted. but at the same time it could be a weird relief like-who hasn't wished not to remember painful or traumatic memories? Assorted thoughts while watching: Atwas is great as Mother Brain. Wasn’t expecting a reprise of the Abandoned Factory but I love it, and the additional lyrics. Lucca’s genuine despair at the thought of Robo’s betrayal is wonderfully heartbreaking. Reprise of A Broken Machine was also unexpected but I love how Steel and Invidebit sing it. I forgot how sad Robo’s arc gets. The poor boy’s gone through too much. Boss Battle 2 works really well here. Having Invidebit singing as well is really sad. Robo’s Theme Reprise! The fact that he’s able to be hopeful despite the grim world is so great! Also the reprise of Lucca’s theme works so well. This song had so many good reprises in it, it really just feels like the ultimate payoff to Robo’s arc.
@GlitchedRed3 жыл бұрын
Personally, I like to think that Robo actually was going to betray the party at one point. Luca was said to be a fool of an inventor in the beginning of the game, so maybe she didn't actually change anything about his programming? I mean, all the R-series robots at the end of the first visit to the future would have made for a very nice ambush if he wasn't acting so strange infront of his comrades.
@nyanokalyano3 жыл бұрын
@@GlitchedRed I never thought about Robo possibly betraying the party, but that would be honestly a shocking plot twist. And yes, I doubt Lucca changed Robo's programming, but it seems Robo was just different himself, although we can't say how exactly that happened. @HighPriestFuneral3 жыл бұрын
Whew, this was the send-off I was really hoping to for this plotline. It really wrapped up everything beautifully from that part of the game and you even managed to throw in more thematic references to those that feel they Deserve the planet. The Reptites, the Zealots, the Mystics, and the Robots versus those who only try to survive the harsh realities in which they are thrown, normal humans. You humanized both Robo and even Mother Brain in ways the game only hints at. I really liked Robo's realization (though I do feel that we should have seen the horror of what was really going on in the Geno(cide) Dome factory, those poor humans are turned into what looks like the Tabs we've been finding throughout the game, rather terrifying stuff.) I would have also liked to see a couple of seconds of the actual fight against Atropos, if you go into it unprepared it can be a rather tough fight. But all in all, this was incredible and really lived up to the reputation of this musical. Mother Brain's reasoning, while twisted, is logically cold and sound. Get rid of those that breathe, that cause continual damage to the Earth by their very existences necessities of eating and building ruining and "stealing" resources from a severely wounded planet, thereby causing further destruction and procreating to continue the cycle anew.

I actually really like Mother Brain's logic here and it's something I never considered before the musical. The biological forms that still cling to life "steal" precious resources from a fatally wounded Earth, but if that life can be eradicated, then life will eventually blossom once again as Robots need no sustenance in the same way as breathing creatures. If Lavos doesn't cause a societal collapse, then there is no need for Mother Brain to fulfill that line of logic.

The mechanical tone of the singing fit the characters and situation. At the beginning, Mother Brain and the other machines sung without any feelings. I also like how you had the voice for Atropos and Mother Brain's breakdowns. I recall in the game, "Depths of the Night" was playing during Atropos last words, and that made the scene more emotional. It would have been nice if you kept it in, but I understand the focus was machines. I've always wished that Atropos could be fixed and join the party. In a way, the game makers could have been giving us a warning message. Something like this can happen in the future if we make machines too smart and rely on them too much. They will then overtake and destroy us. That's what happened in "The Terminator" series, and now we are close to that problem. In a way, people didn't take care of the world as Azala wished during her defeat. This same thing is happening in the real world, so I think Azala gave a good reminder to us. I like Robo's and Lucca's parts at the end. They are very encouraging. I especially like when Robo sings, "The future belongs to those who are strong, but strength is not might in the end. With you by my side to aid and to guide our future is made by friends!" Strength isn't everything. To me, personality is the most important, and I take personality very seriously. One of my favorite quotes is "Cooperation, not competition!" and Robo is implying that here.

I dont know if anyone else got this from the game, but I can feel for the robots on Chrono Trigger. As far as they know, or anyone else that was around post-Zeal, humans themselves caused Lavos to appear and destroy the world, thus it only makes sense for the robots to think "Okay, Lavos appeared because humans did something wrong, but we can fix the earth, we just have to destroy those that are left to do so." They couldn't possibly know that Lavos isn't of the world, because Lavos landed on the earth millions of years ago, and rested in the core of the world, a place impossible for anyone to reliably reach. For all they know, it was just a regular meteor that hit the earth, and any knowledge *of* Lavos was destroyed when the Kingdom of Zeal fell into the earth, and destroyed the concept of magic for all but the Fiends. Idrk, just a bit of a take I came out of the game with.

This is why I like these guys' work with their musicals; they really put so much emotion and character into their roles. Chrono Trigger was a great game in its own right; it's just that the hardware limitations of the time didn't exactly give way to a lot of character development moments. The developers did their best with these character sub-quests, enough to at least infer some portions and allow us to imagine the path they were intending. This as an example, the game tried to show Robo was his own being and "self" but really only did enough for it to be inferred. With MOTI's work, this whole part shows how Robo's experiences have granted him human qualities; maybe not exactly able to feel emotions itself but instead is able to understand the actions and sentiments leading up to particular emotions and thus can act accordingly. He always strives to do the good and responsible thing, thus proving he's "more than machine"; one that "can do anything" and who's "got a heart"! And can I say the lyrics starting at 7:00 always has me smiling at Robo's humanism? It's just so great to see this interpretation of his character!

I appreciate that during the battle against Mother Brain, you can hear Atropos alongside Robo when he/they say, "Now to take down the Mainframe, now to take down Mother Brain!"

Bonus mythology points, Atropos is one of the Fates from Greek mythology. IIRC, she's the one in charge of cutting the thread of life.
