"I was in a slump because I couldn't compose anything, I was going to the hospital regularly for stomach ulcers while I worked, I had a hard-drive crash and lost nearly 40 in-progress tracks...great, I guess I'm only remembering the negative things! But when the entire staff gathered around to watch the ending, I wound up crying anyway (a lot of other staffers were just as deeply moved). I think all of us put a lot of our emotion into the game."-Yasunori Mitsuda, composer He dreamt up dis theme!

I still remember beating CT one day when I came home from school. It was already getting dark and I hadn't turned my lights on yet. The fireworks, balloons, cloud, moon, friends were all so magical. I SO wanted to fly off into the world with the gang to explore their world. I felt like I had made close friends of the characters in the game... I sat in the dark, in silence at the ending screen wishing, if even with just a crumb of wishful thinking, that I could be transported into that world... Though I have grown up and moved on, a part of me still longs for it on occasion... So weird...

Amazing how a game made with such simple tools compared to todays arsenal of development software was able to invoke more emotion and create stronger memories for me than any game I've played from the ps3 era to present. I think the closer we get to reality in our games the less impact it has on us, for many reasons. If you don't believe what I'm saying, go read a book, then try to listen to its "audio book" counter-part. See which one seems more epic in the end. The more we have to fill in with our own imagination (visual details, voices, etc) the more impact it will have on us I think.

Engel II lots of 8 and 16-bit games are made nowadays, if you check out the indie scene, sadly though only 1 in a million are CT quality, and they are never RPGs. (cave story)

Every time I play for someone they are always amazed when I tell them what I'm playing is from a video game 15+ years ago. Most people don't know how good and musically relevant the scores for these games were. And there's just something about the music of Chrono Trigger, one of my all-time favorites, makes me feel all the feels.

You're not kidding. This nonsense perception that all the great music had already been written before we were born was disproven when this game was released.
@JohnnyDarko018 жыл бұрын
Oafah well I guess it depends on when you were born and what people mean by that. the music of the 60's-70's although before my time was pretty damn amazing, but they could also mean classical composed stuff like Mozart, which although I deeply respect, imo doesnt sound nearly as pleasing to the ears as tunes like this.
