I saw one of these at Crystal Beach back in the 70's. My Mom called it the Salt and Pepper Shaker, and told me you went upside-down. I thought it was an extreme, scary ride back then. Forty-five years later, I am still a Zipper junkie.

Love the way the operator casually stands inches away from the tubs trying to look cool.

Some of them tilt sideways Which makes the ride more thrilling. They need to bring this back

Yes they had one in San Francisco’s Playland at the Beach that tilted sideways, also had many other iconic rides like the roller-plane and the double Ferris wheel The Sky Wheel, even had a 1940’s octopus ride. Sadly the amusement park was demolished for condos in 1972

Lovely to see this old classic about, which is a rare sight these days. This and the zipper (egg cages) were bloody scary rides but I'd ride both again now, if I ever get the chance?
@seywhut29858 жыл бұрын
They still make them? Lord I haven't seen one of these in probably 45 years. Once the Zipper came to be, the Roll-O-Plane or "Bullet" as it was called, was never seen again.

Rode this Roll O Plane Ride circa l963 at Kennywood Park with my Prom Date. Memories and really that was a damn good ride. So lets face it back then we DID NOT repeat DID NOT have the High Tech Computer Rides but but we had great rides and by the way the amusement park prices were affordable. Today the prices of admission to go into amusement parks are way way way to exorbitant.

I think I paid 75 cents during the weekdays. You would go to a booth and get those red tickets. Each red ticket was worth 25 cents so I believe this ride took 3 red tickets. I was so happy to give my ticket to the man who would put me into the ride. LOL

Hello! It's really nice to get to see videos of these classic rides as they are a huge part of the history of amusement parks. We had this one and also Eyerly Octopus in Finland in the 50s and I'm making a video about rides we used to have at Linnanmäki amusement park. May I use this footage and also the video of Eyerly Octopus in my document? I would give your channel full credit in the video and in the description of the video.

I’m curious how long it took the operator to get those empty cars to the bottom. That thing was completely out of balance and the way they were rocking it back and forth is terrible for the center shaft. I operate one and we have to load one car, pull the other side down to load diagonally, then load the fourth car.
@Jhihmoac3 жыл бұрын
...That thing turned at a pretty decent rate, while having spinning axial carriages at each end... A whole lotta load on that poor center hub...

The first few years this came out, they and a different name to it. It was called "The salt and pepper" ride and just black and white for the colors.
