In this video we are looking at the Chrysler 300C Touring Wagon! Unlike in the US and Canada, who only got the option of the 300 Sedan version, Latin America, Europe, and Australia also got a 5-door station wagon model! North America did briefly get their wagon fix with the Dodge Magnum from 2005-2008, but they never did get a Chrysler wagon like this. The 300C Touring gained notoriety as one of the coolest vehicles you could buy - a flashy head turner that could haul your family, but could also haul ass with a 6.1L Hemi V8 engine! Many were initially impressed with it, but it did have a short life with just 3 models years, introduced in 2005 and gone after 2010. Watch along for a full history of this wagon from concept to cancellation!

Hello From Plymouth UK I have the 300CRD Tourer Estate LX she has done 219,436 miles and still purrs along nicely , I have only had one Major problem with it the oil cooler leak that these cars are known for , done the general maintenance regularly as required for these monsters and they are monsters on British roads few argue with it it gives an impressive view coming towards you. I was tempted to adorn the vehicle with the Bentley Badges but decided against it a bit naff and even replaced a couple of Bentley badges it already had on it with the 300c badges , it's a far different drive to my Volvo S80 I tend to not need the speed and am happy to cruise with this head turner . In the UK it's referred to as The Mini or Baby Bentley and has the V6 Mercedes Diesel engine that gives a respectable 45mpg on a run and about 25- 29 mpg around town , that compares well with My S80 2.4 petrol engine that gets only 5 to 8mpg more I am surprised that it did not do better in Europe I don't think the car itself had any bearing on that except that it is a big arsed motor and Parking it is a challenge . This is a car you have to drive and not just aim which most Europeans seem to do after driving in Spain I still have the white hair or is that because I am 70 still I digress , British Diving test standards are some of the toughest in the World attested by Yorkshire peach and American You Tuber now living in the UK said she had a nightmare coming to terms with the test . All in all I am so pleased with this motor and love the smooth comfortable ride it affords , it's a real shame in one respect that it didn't catch on here but on a plus side because of this parts are dead cheap on eBay so no complaints here .

As the owner of a Dodge Magnum it was interesting to see the 300 version. The only nit picking I can add is at the 10:00 minute mark when you ask why would someone pay more for the wagon when the sedan is basically the same car. There are many of us that would never, in a million years, drive a sedan over a wagon. Never crossed my mind to look at 300's or Chargers. They just aren't wagons.
@Kacpa2
@Kacpa2 Жыл бұрын
Me neither wagons are just too good of a body style to pass up. Storage capacity and often times rear headroom is much better in wagons. Folding seats too as majority of sedans almonst never have folding rear seats. Plus wagons make for very good weekend getaway car for couples as its comfortable to sleep with seata folded. And its a superior choice to SUVs and Crossovers especially in terms of economy.

“Honestly, who would pay $3,000 more for the exact same...?” The answer is the buyer who wants the wagon vs a sedan, much like those who pay more for SUV’s over a sedan. Despite the answer to your rhetorical question, it seems that there just weren’t enough people who loved wagons. Boy, I was shocked at how plain and plastic that interior was. I’d say you are right saying that was a factor. Thanks for the good video on this vehicle.

Greetings from Spain! I usually see a 300C Touring on my way to university, and I love it! It's a diesel one, though I must agree that being sooo expensive and having that plastic interiors is no suprise that it didn't sell. It's not only a matter of being plastic, it's a matter of being cheap, very bad looking plastic at a time where european and japanese brands were making very good plastic interiors at a much lower price and sometimes with similar performace

Fact check: despite being marketed as a full size wagon, the Magnum/300C were actually in EPA midsize class (133.1 cubic feet), even smaller than an Aspen wagon from the late 70s (138) and barely larger than the K-car (130). A traditional RWD V8 full size wagon typically had over 160 cubic feet.

I own a 2006 Dodge Magnum SRT8 and I've already got all the parts now to swap the front end to that of the 300 SRT8, so this video is timely. Here are a few things that I've noticed on these cars by watching your videos. You can tell the difference in the 300C Touring "concept" vs. production cars in two ways. 1. The "concept" has a body line surrounding the rear window that the production car does not. It extends from the top of the rear door frame, around the window to the beltline. 2. The "concept" uses the rocker panels from the 300 sedan, while the production cars use the rocker panels from the Magnum. "concept": 0:40, 0:43, 0:48, 1:04 (window line really visible) production: 0:58, 1:15, 1:18, 1:23 Also, another change that appears to happen at some point is that the on some trims or in some markets, the door panels got a lot nicer with the addition of the cloth on the door panels (around the switches and above the arm rest/door pull). non-cloth door panels: 4:53, full dark slate plastic (only available after 2008): 5:02, 5:49 (SRT8) cloth door panels: 5:26, 5:30 (SRT8), 5:32, 5:42 (SRT8)

I have a 2007 Magnum R/T (5.7) I've owned since 2008 and have begun a very mild resto. Plan was to swap in a few parts off the SRT 8, but keep it very much an original(ish) R/T. I noticed the rear facia of the 300 touring is quite different than both the R/T and SRT8 Dodge versions. Now I'm wondering if it would fit.. and if those are just reflectors or working lights flanking the license plate. Hmmm

@@johnniewhitfield1972 The euro 300 touring rear bumper will fit. A local guy here has done a 300 conversion and has imported the rear bumper. It bolts right up to the rear of the Magnum. I own a 2006 300C Touring CRD. One other exterior colour option was 'Magnesium', a sort of metallic green/blue. I've only seen one other wagon/estate in that colour before. There's also a dark blue, but I don't know the factory name for that paint choice. Something that's a plus for the 300C Touring is the ride and seats. About the same time the Mercedes E class estate was being made sportier with a harder ride and overly bolstered seats. For the same money you could by the 300C with a much softer ride, the same Mercedes diesel engine and gearbox, plus many of the buttons and switches were straight from Daimler too.

The 300C Touring was CKD assembled in Austria as pointed out, the reason it was canned when Chrysler changed hands from DaimlerChrysler to the equity company before the GFC, the slow selling models will killed off. The Dodge variant was killed off which meant that there were no more CKD kits to be sent to Europe for build. The LE models had a premium build cost in Europe over North America hence the pricing difference and it made Detroit alot more money than cars sold domestically.

You’ve just convinced me to go get the 300c touring that I’ve been checking out in Great Britain, I was down to two cars locally that I fancied, a ‘99 Sebring convertible that needed a new starter motor ( try doing that outside your home,lol) and a silver 300 that is ready to roll with a not too bad 145k miles and a full service history. My last ‘American’ car was a Mercury grand marquis so not much difference in size.

I rode in one in England as it was a taxi for Speedwell taxis in Surrey. It was a nice car (Diesel) in silver on silver. It wasn’t convincing as a luxury car, or mid level also due to the look and feel and I’m surprised it was so expensive.

I believe that the reason the 300C is called that (for all versions) overseas is because I believe Peugeot had some kind of exclusivity that made nobody but them be able to use a zero as the second number of a three number model number (like 206, 508, etc...). Probably also the reason the Porsche 911 is named that instead of the 901.

The US cars are not specifically known for performance or quality. But once in a while they build a car that is just iconic. And by now there is a long list of them. They have flaws, sure. But they have a character that everyone just loves. The 300C is one of them. And I don't care what haters say. Just as many others, I love this car. We are friends and even if this car would have flaws, they would be lovable quirks.

I can't believe with all the problems they had with the 2.7 liter engine that they used it everywhere but the USA, that engine was constantly prone to failure due to the small oil passages getting clogged did they remedy this in the worldwide engines or they just left it the same? These engines were a joke and everyone who ever had them had issues.

I don't understand your logic questioning why someone would pay more for a wagon over a sedan! If you've got any toys (or luggage) you need a bigger boot (trunk). Mine is frequently filled with scuba & boat gear, and flying kit, and general cargo at other times. A normal boot (regular trunk) is of little use to me. Clearly you don't have any toys. 😥 Some 20 years ago I bought a large saloon with a normal boot (sedan with a regular trunk). Three weeks later I needed to move a generator and it wouldn't fit in the boot (trunk). It was a real struggle to get it onto the back seat!

Touring was an Italian coachbuilder. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrozzeria_Touring_Superleggera The name Touring was used by BMW for the wagon versions of the sedans. Rover and Citroën at the same period were using the name Tourer for their 75 and C5. Here in France the 300C Touring had some success with taxi drivers.

@@wsx2000lol Folks bought them like crazy in Finland! Big roomy cars with decent equippment and power and the price was also much less than on similar size European cars.

what an ugly vehicle man. sedan or wagon i could never understand why this car was ever popular back then. friend of mine had one and i couldnt believe how much it used to cost and how cheap the interior looked. Chrysler in general as a brand is a joke now i like dodge but idk how chrysler is even still alive
