Thank you, glad you like what you see. I am really into the XJ and WJ Jeeps and considered myself somewhat of an expert with the 4.7L engine and I've always loved the look of the second generation Dakota I found a regular cab with the 4.7. Just keeping it the Chrysler family.

@@martinbuilt I own a 08 4x4 4.7 Dakota and find my self loving it despite it being neglected by the previous owner. I have had it 3 years now and have done a fair bit so far to keep it going. Then stumbled across your channel and I have to say I enjoyed seeing you add your mistakes as well as how you intend to correct them.

I can cut the flange off easily and quickly with my cutting torch especially with a gouging tip, but if the average person doesn't have access to milling equipment what would be the best way to do this? I can weld it easily too

Would the 2003 grand Cherokee rear fit better than Durango? Heard gran cherokees have dana rear, plus beefier good for towing & four wheeling too.

If you put 03 disc brakes the front of an 01 durango would you swap the rears as well. and how critical do you think it would be not to?
@martinbuilt2 жыл бұрын
I've done mismatch swaps before like on Cherokee XJ and it's always worked out just fine. I haven't had to deal with the break bias or anything. Now that I have done the rear brakes on my Dakota using the Durango disk brakes I can say if I have a panic stop I have a panic that the rear brakes do lock up before the front which is not good.. But my front brakes do need to be changed I'll be upgrading to the dual piston calipers of the later model Durango's and Dakota's

@martinbuilt Жыл бұрын
Yeah if I could have found a rear axle from a dakota that already had the weirdest breaks that would have been the easiest way to go. Finding the rear axle with the 3.92 gears and disbreaks is where I was running into a problem. They're just not that plentiful.
@juanmespinoza65 Жыл бұрын
@@martinbuilt either way thank you so much. We have a bunch of yards in central Cali and luckily there’s a number with the rear ends. How do I make sure it’s the 3.92 rear end? Mine is the hexagon cap on the differential with the 12 bolts. Now I’m just trying to find the 03 04 front end 4X4 to swap the front rotors to the dual calipers and bigger disk.
@raysimon1368 Жыл бұрын
After watching you do all that work I think I would have just swapped out the gear and positive traction unit and save all that work since you had to buy all the parts anyway everything is the same since both are 9 and a quarter rear ends

Too much work! just get a 9.25 off a 2003-04 with the gear ratio you need. I lookup the vin on the new arrivals wich tell you the gear ratio and the rear end size on there website before I even go out to the yard! Dakotas are so plentiful in the pick and pull yards right now (2022)
@theforgerexrogers33923 жыл бұрын
when you completed the conversion did you have to add a proportioning valve or anything to the system?
@martinbuilt3 жыл бұрын
I didn't change a thing on it currently the rear brakes will lock up before the front but I will also upgrade the front brakes to the dual piston calipers and larger rotors that came on later models.

thanks for the info. I'm currently putting an 04 rear axle in a 02 Dakota. I really appreciate the amount of work you put into your conversion.

I wish I could have found an 04 rear axle would have made my the conversion much easier. Still have to get the parking brake cable reconnected and reinstall the sway bar, but have been loving the 3.92 gears and the disc brakes.

@@theforgerexrogers3392 Whats the difference on the 04 rear axle. I have an 02 as well. I Have an 8.25 though :/.
@rexarogers10 ай бұрын
The 04 had disc brakes from the factory. it was a fairly straightforward swap. the parking brake cable end and that was about it. We got a complete axle with brake lines and everything so we didn't have to swap much
@Pete-from-Tn3 жыл бұрын
Could you have not just swapped Ring and Pinion to the axle with disk brakes?
@martinbuilt3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I could have done that if I could find an axle from a Dakota but they are hard to find out here at this time. There are 4 Durango's for every Dakota at the pic-a-part and then all the Dakota's are 01 and older with drum brakes.
