HAHAHA the inflating rubber glove cracked me up! It was showing us the finger LOL! FREAKING BRILLIANT! Great explanation of the LDP system in theory and practice. Mitchell seems to have great info here...AllData has similar content, but that TSB wasn't even listed! Had to go to the FREE BBBindustries site to look it up.

+motoYam82 the finger was Nicks idea. All my gloves in the medicine cabinet were old and dry rotted. I tried. Ha

Been repairing LDP systems for a long time now and always wondered why Chrysler used vacuum to make pressure. Pretty failure prone system at that. The NVLD's aren't that much better either and to think now we have the lovely ESIM system haha hey 3rd time is a charm right!? Any how great vid James and good demo with the rubber glove :)

James Danner Hey James, no vids on the ESIM's yet. Next one I get in that is broke if time allows I will try to record it. These ignition off EVAP's are getting really popular it seems.

Thanks James been messing with my 01 tj got small leak and pinched hose codes thought they were kind of conflicting codes left me a little confused so have been researching operation of LDP. also replaced same line to tank, southwestern Ontario rust belt. got to get an etest here soon your video helps a lot and perfect timing, Thank you, love the glove test cool.

+Robert Lenane let me know what u find. I'm interested in the pinched hose code. What's the number. I want to read about it
@robertlenane33588 жыл бұрын
+James Danner hello from the north shore of lake erie thanks James codes are p0442 and p1486 not sure how the roll over valves in tank play into this system, your vid is the best I have seen on trouble shooting this LDP system thanks again
@jamesdanner78508 жыл бұрын
+Robert Lenane ok. Did a little reading. The 14xx series codes are first. If it passes the first 2 having to do with the switch changing state when ldp energized on cold start up,it goes to the 1486 where it rapidly pumps and sees if it can. If no rapid pumps or slows down or stops too quick, it will set that as pending but no light til the second fail. I accidentally showed that when I left my vice grips on the filter line and forced a ldp test. It quit cycling quick due to no air being able to flow. Not sure if u have any scan or scope equipment but u could disconnect both big hoses at pump..the inlet filter line and the one going to canister/tank area and see if after a few cold start cycles it only sets the 455 large leak code Plus u can just blow thru the hoses and see if u can force any airflow. The filter one should be easy. The one going to the canister may not. Maybe pull it off the canister too and see if the line is clear

+James Danner thanks for your time James very helpful. after watching your channel and Pauls I had to up grade my equipment ebay has been my friend solus pro and a vantage pro were added to my tool box cant imagine life with out them today. gonna attack it in the morning the 1486 only sets at 1/4 tank or less which had me wondering about the valves at the tank being stuck maybe gonna see if I can blow threw line to tank now that I know it uses pressure not vacuum ...... thanks again for sharing with us

My takeway: pump the system with air and listen for a hissing sound. I have 0455 gross (large) leak problem on 2003 Grand Cherokee. Last of 6 codes to fix. Hoping to find the offending problem soon so I can pass NJ's stringent inspection process. Failed twice already. Wish me luck, guys.

Nice video. You should really appreciate your boss allowing you to have so much fun at the shop. The green cap on the EVAP system signifies an enhanced evaporative control system. All enhanced EVAP systems’ Schrader valves have left hand threads. In the “do as I say, and not necessarily as I have done column” observing safe practices dictates that injecting air, rather than Nitrogen, into a fuel system is very dangerous practice because it is a fire hazard! Therefore, proceed with caution (The shops I have worked at do not want to spend the money on the Nitrogen). My available information on the Chrysler LDP is the time between LDP solenoid off and LDP switch closed is called the “Pump Period.” The shorter the Pump Period, the larger the leak. The longer the Pump Period, the smaller the leak. Large leak (>0.080) Pump Period is 0.9 seconds. Medium leak (0.040 to 0.080) Pump Period is 0.9 to 1.2 seconds. Small leak (0.020 to 0.040) Pump Period is 1.2 to6.0 seconds. Finally, throw a vacuum gauge on the ’57 Chevy and see how much vacuum develops at idle and up through 1800 rpm. If it has an aggressive camshaft I predict it will not have much vacuum at idle, but as rpm increases vacuum will increase.

+johnwrench4speed yes, boss is cool. Great technical info on the LDP strategy. I've been scolded before on the air injection thing. Not sure if the 1.5 to 2 lbs is enough for bad things to happen. And yes the 57 is "cammed " heavy Only 13 inches at idle ,can get 21 on decel. but with that small booster u get one good pump. We ended up putting a jegs vacuum canister with an electric pump that kicks at 15 and pumps to 19. Worked good. Thank you
@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics8 жыл бұрын
+johnwrench4speed Well the LDP pumps fresh air into the system by design anyways...and it doesn't blow up! So what's wrong with doing it manually like James did here? Just another automotive myth, right up there with filling your tires with Nitrogen lol
@robertlenane33588 жыл бұрын
+motoYam82 Thanks Ivan I was wondering just that, that the pump pressurizes the system with air so what is the problem with using air to test think I read like 10 inches of water or 1/4 psi .

so running the evap test with the scanner will show codes that would come up eventually from driving for a few days? in the bay?

@davesministry77898 жыл бұрын
excellent. More stuff to buy? The problem some are worried about with using air pressure then causing explosions is not so much the air but the pressure. I found I think on E bay a water pressure gauge that I could tee in like you did with the old fuel pressure gauge. You can then see accurately the much lower pressure required to safely do the test. Keep going.
@jamesdanner78508 жыл бұрын
+daveS ministry yea. But I looked into it a bit and I think u need over 500 psi for gasoline to flash. I've been using 1.5 lbs for years. And to be completely honest, I use under 2 because tank rollover valves vent at 3ish .

Have this code on my '01 TJ and am still beating my head against the wall trying to clear it. Bypassed a rotten steel vent line - of course that must've been it, right? Of course it wasn't. I'll make my decision after I finish watching this but I suspect it will be the LDP, mostly because that would be the most expensive part to replace, haha

+RomanAutomotive hey bro, sorry I didn't see your message right away. I've had people send me stuff to auto perfection where i work here and there. I honesty can't think of anything that I desperately need . I kinda let any revenue go into an account I don't touch for like a retirement thing since I'm at a small shop with no real 401k stuff. You could send me something small from like harbor freight or something and a card with your logo and I'll plug your channel. Just a thought. I do however appreciate the personal thought no matter what you decide to do brother. Good stuff. Thank you
