Man you saved my van from the junkyard!!!! I love you!!!! long story short..........Toyota tech's $460 problem not fixed(TPS REPLACED AND MAF REPLACED) told me it would be 1100 more for a new throttle body that is was the IAC motor was bad(time to leave at that point).....my normal mech......was like "NO CLUE MAN" then said it was the ECM 4 days later. THIS VIDEO SAVED MY TOYOTA. 2004 Sienna XLE limited 292,693 miles Now running strong yet again. Had a bad coil pack up front. unplugged it she fired right up.

Thank you, so much you are a saviour. My sienna had all 6 coils codes, after hours of searching, it turned out that all three rear coils 1, 3, 5 were bad. I almost gave up, so I swapped the front coils with rear ones and put the plenum back and started the car on three coils and that worked.
@tamare20027 жыл бұрын
James, I must say THANKS. I was facing the exact same problem/sympthom in my 2006 Toyota Matrix: The engine started, some time kept running for a few minutes then stalled. A general misfire appears with all 4 codes at the same time: P0351, P0352, P0353, P0354. I got my car into two different workshops and they couldn't replicate the failure. I decided to do something by myself and got the Electrical Schematics. My Why Tree analysis narrowed to the IGF or the Ground system so I also checked the circuit cables for shorts, but never tried the coils because in the two workshops, both of them "CONFIRMED" the ignition coils were good (BIG MISTAKE). So I was lucky (actually was my son's idea): I just unplugged the ignition coil #2 (and the Fuel Inyector #2 too) and Voila!, the car runs, NOT STALLED. We replaced the Ignition Coil #2 and done. Thanks again for your video. May I suggest to modify your video title? (It took me a lot of time to find it) something like this: TOYOTA NO START OR STALL, ALL ENGINE COIL CODES P0351, P0352, P0353, ... P0356.. AT THE SAME TIME. During my research I notice there is a lot of people with the same problem around.

Excellent video. You stuck with your original testing direction to the very last circuit. It sure "felt" like a passcode or security device shut down, which would have led me in the wrong direction. Good work. Keep going. At the end of your video's you say believe. Believe what?
@jamesdanner78508 жыл бұрын
+daveS ministry simple answer.... Jesus. Not a preacher tho. Just acknowledging the gifts given to me. And stating the simplicity of accepting the gift of God's sons death to pay for our sins. The verse comes from after his resurrection when even the ones who knew him didn't believe at first.
@davesministry77898 жыл бұрын
Thank you. You are a preacher Jesus Christ. Nothing wrong there. Good job. .Jesus died for our sin's according to the scriptures, and rose from the dead according to my gospel. Believe= trust and rely upon. Believe he died for you're sin's paid for them with His shed blood, was buried, and rose from the dead. Proving He was able to justify us. This is the gospel. God bless you. Continue on.

Excellent video, James, but how does unplugging the coil allow the vehicle to start without finding the short and fixing i?
@jamesdanner78507 жыл бұрын
+littlebear gaming the short was internal to the one bad coil. And the igf circuit runs thru all 6 in parallel. a failure like that anywhere in that circuit shuts the whole thing down. Even tho it misfires with the one bad one unplugged, the coil fire confirmation signal from the other 5 can now make it back to the computer and it will continue to run
@littlebeargaming82677 жыл бұрын
Thank you, James for the explanation.
@motorcyclesandridingfree28998 жыл бұрын
Good find for sure on that as some would have chased the security code first. But typically security will shut down fuel and not spark so going after the coil codes was the right call.
@jamesdanner78508 жыл бұрын
+MJR Performance thank you. .. I was suspecting that and almost said it was a possibility in my written description, but didn't go that far on research after the repair . So I kept my mouth shut.
@tamare20027 жыл бұрын
I want to say, in the workshop they confirmed fuel was never shut down: they verified fuel pressure and fuel inyectors and no problems found every time the car stall.

Nice troubleshooting & diagnosis James. Whoever changes the plugs may have to break torque, fill up the wells with intake valve cleaner and let them soak...glad they didn't give him 3/4" reach plugs or it could have gotten real ugly!

I started thinking it should have 3/4" reach plugs & for a 2006 Toyota Sienna 3.3L it actually calls out for 3/4" reach plug NGK IFR6T11
@paolosmith23235 жыл бұрын
I managed to make it work without the computer analyzer. My 2006 Sienna was doing the same thing, it quit and I had to have it towed to my house. What I did was to unplug the coils one at the time, then clear the codes and try to start it. I got lucky, it it was the second one I tried, in the front, once I unplugged it and cleared the codes the engine started, it had a miss because of the missing spark. I replaced that coil and it's running fine.
@rudymedina86593 жыл бұрын
I have been trying to solve but no luck. I have probe the wires on coils, injectors pulse, crankshaft and cam sensors, also tested fuel pressure, key🔑 and coresponder. Everything seems to be working. I have even tried the disconnect on each coils, cleaned mass air sensors,. throttle body And the only code is p1604 and even cleared. But no luck. Any suggestions would be helpful. Hi. I have a similar situation, the car starts and stalls and writes codes for all four ignition coils. But at the same time, I have 5 volts on the igf wire, and each coil pulls this voltage to ground. What can you advise? Thank you very much!

number 5 might of shorted because the coolant that goes to the throttle body was leaking on it??

Very typical for this era Sienna. The best way to attack this is to go after the coil that has freeze frame data stored first. Usually, that’s the faulty coil and fixes the issue. For some dumb reason Toyota’s set immobilizer codes all the time. They’re almost always false codes.
@ajscars10816 жыл бұрын
I have the exact same issue with the exact same codes I unplugged all the coils connectors and measured the voltage between IGF and GND while the key in the run position, it was 0V. I also measured the voltage across IGF and B+ and it was almost 7V. Is it possible to be a bad ECM?
