Recently Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares visited US based production and corporate facilities and determined that the FCA group will need to cut costs by a further 30% to meet profitability expectations. I give you my thoughts on what this means for the company and his possible motives for these demands. I take a hard look at the numbers to see what is really going on.

Dodge treated me so shitty after dropping over 100k on a Durango Hellcat that I’ll never spend another penny with Stellantis. They can go F themselves honestly… I’m sure they were upset that 2021 owners sued them but no direct connect support, no Uconnect software updates and no Rf Hub lockout was a middle finger to us on their part.

I remember 2021 when I wanted a scat pack widebody and every dodge dealer around me had them at ~$65-72k. I'm now the proud owner of a Camaro SS ($44k msrp and what I paid) and will never buy a dodge again. Dodge knowingly let dealers screw us to help pay for the EV transformation they are attempting (along with the Hornet, and what genius decided to end the Hemi cars before the replacement is even available?).

Stellantis prices have gone up 50% since 2019. That is not inflation or supply chain issues, just greed. These cars that sold so well at 2019 prices are sitting on lots now due to their ridiculous stickers and high interest rates. Tavares wants to maintain a profit per vehicle target like he did 2021-2023 when supply was low and people bought because they were stuck. They also had government stimulus checks from COVID. How are those loans doing now? Until you accept reality and bring prices down, the company will struggle. He cut key R & D jobs earlier this year in North America. If he cuts more, just remember that low-cost engineers in Turkey and Morocco are low-cost for a reason. When you cut experienced talent like that, it shows you are desperate. Those people will find jobs and never come back.

They want Jeep bc they think they can make that a global brand but the other FCA/Chrysler brands are going away. The vans are still made in Windsor and they will stay for now and they will fiddle around with Jeep. Ram trucks might be on a death watch. There are no other Stellantis brands that American buyers want. The new Euro management team is clueless and are there to downsize the American Chrysler business. Okay. I'm a Detroit native. I grew up in the automotive industry. I can tell you firsthand what makes U.S. Automakers successful is not the profit and loss sheets, its making vehicles that are affordable, likeable, and fun, emphasis on likeable and fun. GM realized this that is why they are making the move to fun. Ford realized this and made the move to fun and fairly affordable. You mean to tell me, that FCA can't make a fun and affordable vehicle in the U.S. with American workers? All of our foreign competitors would strongly disagree with that notion. Look at Hyundai and Toyota. They are just as profitable, yet they have vehicles well within the budget of most Americans and most of those vehicles are built in the U.S. That should show you that we may need to change our view of how the UAW works with our companies to keep costs under control because the biggest difference with our foreign competitors have compared to FCA is they do not use unionized labor, yet their workers are well compensated and they make affordable, quality products. That's how Chrysler used to do it before the bean counters started running the show. Notice the years the FCA brands were doing great, Tim was running the show. When Carlos started putting his formula in the mix, everything got overly expensive, and sales plummeted. I say terminate Carlos and put Tim in his seat. I'll bet within three years he can turn this thing a full 180 degrees.

You still got to have , quality with affordable. The industry is product driven got to have right mix of product in the marketplace, yet the American brands must be relatable to Americans, I don't want a dodge, jeep, Ford, Chrysler etc if their built outside north America... Then I may as well consider all foreign makes n models. Now to the numbers on these video the sales has substantial drop , they did make ton of money but they done nothing basically to market and build up the product line since they got here, I mean what product do the French have that sold in quantity here in America? What did they know about it? At least the Italians overall built up the Product n let the Americans do their own thing.. now the product is stall being bashed and the quality gaps are substantial and throwing the loyal people out! With all the outsourcing and robotics, employee labor comprises just 7% of the cost of a new vehicle. For the average sales price of $47,443 for a new vehicle and estimating a conservative profit of 10% to the manufacturer, the employee labor cost component is approximately $3,000 per vehicle. So even a 50% pay cut would only reduce a vehicle build cost by $1,500. Do you really think that cost savings is going to show up with a reduced MSRP? Maybe it's time to stop blaming the U.A.W. for Stellantis's poor management decisions.

I think a big reason the cars aren't selling is because Chrysler Corp lacked the budget to update their platforms. The Durango, 300, challenger, and charger are (were) ancient platforms. No one wants to pay 2024 prices for a car last updated in 2014. Just my opinion.

The whole industry needs to get back to basics! Jobs & Industry create economic capacity to purchase such vehicles. Going global for manufacturing & outsourcing cheap labor; exterminates its very customer base, making America’s military unable to supply defense materials. Seriously doubt overseas has superior technology or engineering capabilities than USA; not logical to outsource for inferior design. Chrysler did it before with a multi use platform; need a visionary like Iacocca.

The cost of just housing and living without transportation has a very less percentage of families that can even afford to own a car. I live in Saint Petersburg Florida now. For over 40 years now, a combination of taxes, fees, emissions/greenhouse laws, and labor costs here in America have caused many manufacturing jobs to be lost. Companies are trying to save money for themselves and lower costs for the buyers, so they end up building warehouses and plants in parts of the world that have lower labor costs vs the American Dollar, lower property taxes, lower fees for utilities, and fewer and lesser strict laws involving pollution and climate. That's also the case with customer service hotlines. We've become used to talking on the phone with somebody in India while going over an issue with a credit card account or needing assistance with our Ebay account.

@racerx I kind of disagree with you. 2020 2021 we had Covid. We had extremely high pricing and until recent months you couldn’t get a discount on any car all the cars were overpriced. A lot of the cars wouldn’t sell because the dealers wouldn’t do on the pricing. Remember, they had inventory problems you couldn’t get parts or cars. Lots were empty. The decrease in numbers is really an impact in dealing with the dealers and high prices with no inventory.

@@RacerX9 suppose you sell 10 units for 10 dollars, and you decide to double the price. Now you only sell 5 units at 20 dollars. This means that your profit margins went up because you only need half of the input costs. Obviously this is over simplified but that's the basic idea. When your company releases it's quarterly statement you can post higher profits with fewer sales. Investors like higher profits so stock price goes up. You now get a fat bonus and can sell your overvalued stock.

Carlos made the decision to jump the price, across the board, for Chrysler Group vehicles to pay for buying FCA. All he wanted from buying the group is a entrance into the NA market. Lets take a look at, just one plant. Building the same products for 15 years. Yes, I'm talking about Brampton, home of the 300, Charger and Challenger up to the end of 2023, All the tooling is paid off, so all there is to pay is the standard overhead for running the plant. No major upgrades to that plant for the run of that product. Yet, costs cut every year of 7 to 11 % per year over 15 years. Hell... it got so bad that buying paper towels for the washrooms needed a corporate permission. For the plant making the most profitable, per unit, products in the line up. Carlos wants to kill it all off except for Jeep. The rest will be nothing more then re-badged euro-trash. The Hornet is just the start.

Then they cut down Dodge products too. So, don't be so quick to back those dollar figures.

One of the key cost factors for Stellantis is the insane EPA emissions that forces auto makers to comply or buy carbon credits from battery car companies. Stellantis has had to pay hundreds of million of dollars each quarter to Tesla to buy carbon credits! This has a direct impact on the bottom line! And as such, where do you think they will make up the cost? They raised the prices across the board and is why you see $100,000.00 Jeep Wranglers. $85,000.00 1500 Ram pickup trucks! So all you folks out there crying about these insane prices - you can thank the Democrats for doing this green agenda on the entire auto industry!!!
