Looked like 14sec/85mph or so, with first and second. Love that Cop motor and Torqueflite combo. This big highway car probably had a 2.76 for the open highway and fluffy drive characteristics in town. The old 440 dishes out wonderfully smooth torque. That was one fantastic motor.

Pretty sure it's called the 440 TNT with Chrysler. Plymouth had the 440 Super Commando, and Dodge had the 440 Magnum. They're all the exact same though, just different names.

I had a 1975 Chrysler Imperial 4 door with a 440 4 bbl in the late 80’s when I was a kid. The thing wasn’t to bad power wise considering the size of it and the little horsepower it had for such a big engine. You could’ve filmed a 70’s porno in it with its red leather interior and bench seats front and rear.

KPH car; NY was an export model and, no catalyst. Cats didn't mandatory in Europe till the 1980s. In fact, a guy imported a late 1970s USA market car of some sort, cat converter and all, had to REMOVE said cat before the inspectors would measure emissions..............WTF?

Leaded fuel clogs up the converter & will in short order burn the valves & cause other troubles,including of all things warped carburetors? (From excessive heat)

That's why you should start in 2nd gear. My S-Class starts in 2nd gear always and revs until 80 km/h with it. Then it changes to 3rd gear, so up to 120 km/h I have only 1 shift.

Yes, catalytic converters didn't start until 1975, but the emissions bullshit started a few years before then. GM lowered all thier compression ratios in 1971. Chrysler did to with a few exceptions. 1973 was a terrible year for all 4 US auto manufacturers. That's when EGR systems were introduced widespread, and the camshafts were VERY anemic.

Back when 2 gears were enough to go decent highway speeds, today you won't get to 50km/h with a modern 8- or 10- in 2nd gear! My 6-speed can still do 70mph in 2nd or ~115km/h.

Have you forgotten how NOT- AERODYNAMIC a 1975 New Yorker was? Its obviously a metric faced 120mph speedometer (200km/h=124mph) He let off at about 86mph My Ecoboost mustang has more HP AND torque than a stock 1975 440, it weighs 1000lb less, has steeper rear end gearing and a SIX SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION and I cant hit 140mph in 15 seconds. That old Chrysler is cool but its NOT fast.

The acceleration is deceptive because its so constant, not because its rapid. Gotta love those torque monster big V8s Even when choked back they still are impressive in thier own way, 0-80mph (130km/h) in less than 15 seconds was quick for 1975! That said i will take a modern V8 any day 😂

That video has been sped up or the car is on jackstands Those mid 70s land yachts took 11 or 12 seconds to hit 60 mph (100 kmh) even with the smogged out low compression 440 they came with after 73. Even the earlier late 60s full size big block chryslers werent anywhere near as quick as that video seems to show.

my father had a 1969 chrysler 300 with a 440cui, four barrel holley carb in it but he had it special ordered/built with a performance cam, performance automatic tranny and performance rear end and the speedometer went to 220. i had it up to 175mph on the interstate back when there was zero traffic and it was still gaining speed when i chickened out. i drag raced it a few times and never did anyone come close to beating it. it would burn rubber thru every gear shift if i did it right! lol burned thru tires on that thing and only could afford the monstrous gas intake due to $.25 a gallon price. he unfortunately got rid off it when the gas prices spiked a few years later.

Damn, that big mother fucker gets it and sounds good while it's doing it. I remember those big mopars with the 440s and the smaller darts/dusters with the 318s were fairly common teenagers second hand cars back in the late 70s-early 80s and even the ones that had two barrels were abnormally quick 0-60. This 75 new yorker is at the beginning of the really shitty smog era and has to weigh 4500 pounds plus but still pulls off a 7 sec 0-60. Not too shabby.

A '74 Monaco police car had the E86 440 available, a '75 New Yorker at Best probably had an E85 440 single exhaust with a catalytic converter and lean burn the '74 would have been a lot quicker stock for stock. Edit, this is a metric dash probably Canada so it might not have cats or lean burn.
