I´m swedish so I can understand what is said on the police radio. And I know the roads that is shown in this vid. We have a son living very close to where it all ended, so I drive there frequently. The chase with patrol cars was aborted long before the biker hit the roadblock and died. The chase was led from a police helicopter. The first patrol car arrived almost one minute after the crash, so they were a couple of kilometers behind. The biker stressed himself - he had no drivers licence for the bike ... Sometimes the road is blocked right at the entrance to Södra Länken, which is a system of road tunnels, due to heavy traffic/congestions/accidents in the tunnel. If so, the orange lights that is seen right before the patrol car at the crash site is flashing. Biker didn´t see the warning ligth? Natural selection ...

Many excursions were passed with a break-in speed of 35mph and I had some small accidents that lead me to learn what it was about. Fast forward to today and the environment and attitudes are both inflated to the point that driver ability isn't broad based and riding carries more serious risks. Pursuits are difficult to judge. In Australia we have a problem where everyone knows if they are dangerous the police let them go. So when a pursuit starts the driver increases the risk - swerve at oncomming traffic, swerve at pedestrians and drive on the wrong side of the highway - and the pursuit gets cancelled, rewarding the crook. In a way the safety policy causes much more danger than anything else.

so far back as the cops have been quite often in the video they didn't really push him; And btw there was a helicpoter in the air, but the problem in Stockholm is that there are several tunnels with on- and offramps leading into other tunnels, so a helicopter might not know at which tunnel he will come up again

There has to be a mental fracture in the mind of one who rides a motorcycle at that speed knowing there is no protection what so ever..Respect speed ,you live lo ger.

Swedish law demands that speeders be clocked over a set distance and their speed averaged by the on board computer. This is why these cops had to follow him until he got back on the open road, at which time his speed was averaged at 127 Km/h (135 mph). At that point, they became the arresting officers; so, although the bike was being tracked from the sky and road blocks were being erected, the arresting cops had to be there when the bike was stopped. In Sweden, it is not sufficient to simply identify the bike; its offending driver must also be identified at the scene to prove he was the one driving it. Thus, these cops were not trying to overtake the bike once the violation was verified; and the driver of this cruiser was an incredible pro who waltzed through traffic at 125 mph with no lurching, swerving, heavy-footed braking, or close calls: poetry in motion. Compare this to the local cop we got stuck behind at one point.

That matches with what I read about Sweden's laws about having to catch the very driver, not just identify the vehicle. It's a loophole for the crazy and just madness. In my native Germany, you may get away once or twice by denying to be the driver - but you'll soon be obliged by court order to document every single trip made with any vehicle registered in your name - including the driver's identity. I wonder how long the Swedish government and parliament have allowed this to go on...

127 kmh is 79mph not 135mph.

Excellent driving by the officer concerned. It was interesting to note the differences in procedure between Swedish traffic units and ours here in the UK. Had this occurred in the UK I am almost certain this unit would have been pulled off the pursuit having dropped back so far. As for the motorcyclist, he is responsible for his own death. He showed scant regard for the safety of himself, his passenger and other road users. Thankfully his passenger survived, could have been a whole lot worse.

@Tobias Cat they were at 110 mph, that's nothing.

No excuses, be legal and drive safely and obey the rules of the road. Won’t have anything to worry about.

The turbocharged 2.3 L engine in the Saab 9-5 Aero supposedly has more torque than a Porche 911 turbo! That's a pretty bold statement. Makes me wonder if the Swedish police have modified the engine in any way? He really opens up the throttle@16:16 mins. Honestly, I'm surprised that the Swedish cops actually even engage in high speed pursuits to apprehend non violent individuals, just due to the unnecessary risks of causing an accident. Especially when a helicopter is involved. Seems counterintuitive in a country that takes a common sense approach to so many other things. Esp dealing with a crotch rocket! I once owned an '86 900 Turbo, and that little four cylinder engine had some crazy acceleration when the turbocharger kicked in. The turbo unit even had a protective wastegate that would suddenly depressurize the system if you put too much pressure on the turbocharger. It felt like someone stomped on the brake pedal! Very nicely made cars. I wouldn't want to have to pay for engine work on a Saab in the United States these days though. I remember my Saab mechanic in AZ had a photograph on his wall of the graduation of his training class at the old Saab-America headquarters off of interstate 95 in Connecticut. Can't remember what town that was. He was in the first class. Too bad Saab discontinued their imports to the US. Their cars had very good safety ratings.

Buy the saab 9-3 2.8 V6 Aero with Vtuner good for 175+ MPH
@jonathanbecker89354 жыл бұрын
@@beefy32 never heard of a Saab that could do 175+. I would think that aluminum block would just crack to pieces. What's Vtuner? I had a 900 Turbo and a 9000 Turbo, but those were just little turbocharged four cylinder's which were sporty but only really as fast as a normal six, just with better mileage. These newer six cylinder fuel injected, plus turbo must be pretty gutsy. Saab really makes a nice car. They handle nice and do very well in crashes. I was cautioned about buying ANY New model in its' early runs though, until they had a few years to work the bugs out you could spend a lot fixing various components which were usually faulty for cost saving reasons in the design. Not easy competing with the Mercedes and the BMW's. But still, 175+??? That's pretty hard to swallow.

@@jonathanbecker8935 The 2.8 V6 turbo with Vtuner map from Brian at Vermont tuning will apparently hit 190MPH in 6th gear on the red line.
