This is part 2 of my Pentastar 3.6L tear down series. In this video I take you along as I take apart a Chrysler Pentastar 3.6L while discussing the various parts of the engine and explain how they work. In this video I will be getting into the cylinder head of the 3.6L. Camshafts, cam followers, hydraulic valve lash adjusters, valves and variable valve timing units will be gone over. It's a fun video and a bit of a deviation from my normal "how to" stuff. I hope you enjoy!
Note: this video Is a very high level overview of this engine and the parts inside. This video should not take the place of a manual and the tear down methods used are not meant to be used. It's just a fun and informational video....that probably doesn't have all the information you could every need for this engine.
Here is a link to the video discussing the cam follower failure.

Excellent series on this engine. Before now, I never knew exactly how cam phasers functioned. Very well explained, thank you!

Thank you for these videos I'm planning on becoming a mechanic after my civil service is over and your videos are a huge help. I love how you explain things not just rush through them, and how you show step by step how to do it. Thank you again and take care sir.

Great video ! On 4:43 you can really see the importance of using the right oil and to keep the oil clean

All those oil passages in the VVT system is a huge reason manufacturers recommend you use the correct specified oil weight. The engineers design the VVT system based on the oil weight to be used. Using a heavier weight oil could result in improper operation of the VVT system .

I'm sorry I don't remember. It's been a while since I made the video. Did I suggest a heavy oil? Or were you just sharing useful information?

@@BarboursAutoHelp Comment wasn't directed at you specifically. Rather those who think using a heavier weight oil on these sensitive VVT engines. Most folk do not understand it could affect the VVT operation.

@@davidwood7170 Yea, I just wasn't sure if I had mentioned that. I puckered up a bit thinking maybe a gave some bad info. I ended up watching the video again. I figured you were just sharing some good info. Had to make sure though. Thanks for commenting.

When I took one of those phasers apart I said the same thing about how simple it is. This means the Americans actually did something very well.

Thicker oil like 10w30 help the rockers?
@BarboursAutoHelp
@BarboursAutoHelp 3 жыл бұрын
That's an awfully thick oil. I'd only put what the manufacturer recommends in the engine. I think it has to do with how the rockers are made. I'm not really sure. However, the problem can be seen on any engine, Chrysler or not, that uses this style rocker.... maybe not as prevalently though.

Very poor in explaining relationship between rocker arms or cam followers to the lifters lash adjusters- still not sure of the actual mechanical interaction like in overhead valve pushrod engine.
