You got this!!! This story might help you to stay motivated as well. I don't usually share it online, but this might be useful for you. My father had long had an alcohol problem. Five years ago, he took therapy and stopped drinking. After a few sober months, his motivation to live, hapiness, health, engagement as a father and as a person, towards both his work and our community, were higher than I ever hoped for. I actually 'discovered a completely different father'. I absolutely love the father I got to know when he was sober. When he was both physically and, more importantly, mentally recovered. He was a completely different person when sober. He didn't realise the extent to which this was true himself. After 6 months of being the fantastic father one could only dream of, he had a weak moment and started drinking again. He died 4 years later, at the age of 55. I was 20. If you have children, a partner, or anyone who loves you. Please think about how much difference you can make to their lifes, by staying strong. You can do this!!

I'm a recovering alcoholic. I'm 25 and have been drinking since I was about 12. Whilst I don't drink rum, I realise that this could've just as easily been me. My father was an alcoholic, too. Soon enough I found out that he wouldn't notice if I took his some of his whiskey every other day or so. My mam was never in the picture seeing as my father wasn't exactly a desirable man to be married to. In recent years I joined the Royal Navy and have been trying to get my shit together ever since. This video was a huge wake up call for me the first time I saw it. I still come back to it every once in a while. Thank you.

I realized that I'm an alcoholic last year, but it's really difficult to break my drinking habits, even though I see how it's negatively affecting me as time progresses. How were you able to quit, and how did joining the Royal Navy help? I'm asking sincerely, because I really need to break this downward spiral I'm in.

Gotta thank you, Chubbyemu. Saw this video at the right time in my life. While I dont drink 3 litres of rum a day, I was drinking about 2-3 litres of rum per week for about the last 3 years. My liver enzymes were up about a year ago. And my poop was green for about the last year. Watched this video, and finally realized that this could easily be me by the time I turn 40. This video was the kick in the ass I needed to stop drinking. Now I havent had a drink for almost a month thanks to you. So yeah, i’m really glad you made this video as it helped snap me out of a vicious cycle. Thanks Chubbyemu! I owe you one, buddy! Oh, and my stool is back to normal too. Not sure about my liver enzymes yet though. Edit: I wanted to wait until I’d been sober for a while to give you guys an update. I saw this video the first time on August 15th, 2018. I posted this comment one month later on September 15th, 2018, after I’d been sober for a month. Today is March 15th, 2019. And I am very proud to report that I am 7 months sober as of today. Once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart, Chubbyemu! I was only able to break the cycle after watching this video, and learning what exactly was going on inside my body, as a result of all the liquor. And thank you to everyone that Liked and Replied to my comment. Your support and encouragement helped me more than you know. You guys are the best! 😁 And if you’re reading this, I hope you have an awesome day!

Dylan Morgan def an eyeopener. Realized that I went from just having fun with buddies to being drunk every night. Even when I was alone. Helped me realize that I have a real problem with alcohol. Kept saying, “Ill give it up tomm. Just one more night of getting drunk.” Three years of that passed before I watched this video, and “tomm,” slapped me in the face. Thank you for your support, my brother. It was really tough at first, and some days I still get the urge pretty bad. But I def made the right decision after watching this. Sorry for the long reply too. Lol.

I don't like it when a parent does that to a child that's drinking. she didn't even think it would get worse and making it hard on him and his little sister that he have to take care of. some parents don't think those things when it comes to people drinking. even your friends can be real hush on you just because they find out you drink. even though you a type that doesn't drink all the time. not everyone in the world gets addicted with drinking and smoking. people need to stop judging people to much when it comes to that stuff. they are just going to make things worse on people that are having a hard life or just don't know the dangers on what they are taking in there bodies. and those people are all talk because on the fact they think taken pills well do them any good. they don't even know medicine addiction is also a thing.

I'd have died before finishing the 2nd liter. I have a low tolerance for alcohol. I've only been drunk once in my 57 years. I consumed one small spiked eggnog, one cocktail and one relatively small glass of wine with dinner at a Christmas gathering and I was falling down drunk plastered out of my mind. My grandfather could have drunk a bar full of heavy drinkers under the table. He lived to be 93. Everyone has a different tolerance. Mine as I said is very low. Hi everyone! NEW Medical Monday here: A Student Felt A Sharp Pain In Her Side. This Is How Her Organs Shut Down: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYK2ZGCtjpKLrck A few notes: 1. I’m not here to preach about drinking, nor promote any misuse. A safe bet is 0-2 drinks per day, no rollover, meaning if you didn’t drink Monday - Friday, don’t have 12 drinks Saturday and think that’s within recommendation. 1 drink = 1 shot or equivalent, not the whole bottle. 2. Underage drinking is against the law. JB’s dad is a real person somewhere out there. Bad dad. 3. Don’t be scared of the chemicals made in your body naturally. Chemicals are not 1-dimensional in function. 4. Alcoholism will always be a human problem, best solved with the help from other humans. 5. Cirrhosis is so complex, 12,000 minutes isn’t enough to cover everything. 6. Interspecies transplants via pigs / CRISPR & 3D printing of organs is dangerous hype. PS Shouldn’t we have colonized Mars by now? 7. 1 Fifth = 750 mL. 1 Handle = 1.75L. Liquor comes in metric in USA.

Once your drinking that much that he would down several bottles of wine to be drunk on top of the rum. That handle just made him feel like us after a tall boy. The liver is so damaged it's not effectively producing acetahldehyde so he's not actually getting as drunk. His body can't even turn the alcohol into the chemical that makes you intoxicated. It's a cycle that happens to alcoholics. You drink which damages the liver and makes your brain more resistant to intoxication so you drink more which makes the liver less efficient at making you intoxicated so you drink more which makes the brain more resistant so you drink more which makes the liver less efficient so you drink more. This is an exponentially increasing tolerance

Hi Chubbyemu! I know you will most likely not see this & it'll get lost in these comments somewhere, but I appreciate you for telling JB's story because it reminded me of mine. I was never an alcoholic, but I was in a terrible car accident where they had to do life saving measures on me like they did with JB. My injuries in my accident were a Grade V liver laceration, hepatic artery injury, an injury to right portal vein & avulsion to gallbladder. In my accident, my gallbladder ripped off of my liver from blunt force trauma, and cause my arteries to rip apart as well. I was internally bleeding. My blood pressure dropped to 54/11... and they started massive transfusions. I went into hypovolemic shock as well and was in critical condition. My condition status was deteriorated at one point. They worked on me for hours, got control of the bleeding and did a angiographic embolization (coil embolization) and placed me into a medically induced coma for 2 1/2 weeks. my kidneys started to fail and I had to do dialysis and then my lung collapsed which forced me to be on a ventilator longer than I should've. idk but thank you so much for sharing his story it made me feel inspired to share mine publicly. I resonated with his, and you spoke facts on what the medical field does in emergencies, and because of their quickness, it saved my life!

I knew Pigpen. I went to one of the earliest Grateful Dead concerts in San Francisco, at an event called the Trips Festival in January 1966, organized by Ken Kesey. Pigpen was the keyboard player, as you mentioned. At that time the Grateful Dead was essentially a bar band playing Top 40 music and they dressed head to toe in black leather. Their signature song was a cover of Wilson Picket's Midnight Hour which they would play at midnight for almost an hour - the beginning of their iconic extended jams. It was a great time to be a teenager (I was 19). I love your ability to explain medical the pathology of these medical conditions at the elemental level.

My father drank large quantities of beer since he was 13 all the way until he was diagnosed with Cirrhosis in 2012, when he was 52. All the health issues mentioned in the video were commonplace since then and I memorized the causes and treatments to the letter. Around 2002 I decided to average the amount of beer he drank every day, which amounted to 33 cans daily. Even he stopped drinking in 2012 it wasn't enough, his liver was just too damaged to go on. Unfortunately he opted out a liver transplant option in favor of Alternative Medicine treatments so he finally died in December 2017. Great video, this explains everything we went through for five years until the end. Alcoholism is no joke. Rest in Peace my old man, I wish you had listened to me before it was too late.

Im afraid im going to end up like my mother. ive always struggled with soberity and smart enough to know what im doing to myself and what i need to do to stop. but its so hard to stop doing what you have always done and know. my emotions are all over the place and i now struggle with mentally easy tasks. i have to stop before i meet the same fate. my mom blew up like a balloon from all the fluid in her body when her body was shutting down, and kept forgetting things and repeated herself and was confused all the time almost like Alzheimers from the toxins not being filter out of her body. I have to stop! Pray for me in my journey, I ask GOD to take the taste away and the urge to escape in a can. LOVE YOU ALL.

At the age of 25 i watched my father a daily drinker wither away from Cirrhosis. The amount of times he was found unresponsive and rushed to the hospital in the last 2 months of his life was so hard to deal with. it had to be the hardest things i have went through to this day. the pain, suffering and regret i saw in him is enough to bring anyone to tears. i beg anyone out there who drinks to excess please stop before this happens to you too. the feeling it gives you isnt worth it. most will never get a transplant and recover most go through hell before it finally ends their life..

My uncle had the exact same symptoms plus pellagra, he died at 40 after the varices in his throat bursted. It''s a horrible death and the doctors don''t treat you the same way, because they know it's all your fault.
@bretteveretthowell32765 жыл бұрын
Yup. Had a very dear friend die a hard to witness death from complications of drug addiction, and some of the nurses and doctors treated him like a criminal and a nuisance. Wonder why they don't treat people who end up with bad hearts from eating the same way? Or lungs from smoking? It's all just moral grandstanding and blaming the addict entirely for societal ills, its not always their fault they can't quit, when they have no access to quality support. In my freinds case, if society would have spent less time demonizing drugs and punishing/shaming ppl for using them, and more time actually helping people in dire need of it, he wouldn't of died. Also: Zero healthcare concern about harm reduction in my State. Sorry. Struck a nerve, thinking back on those hypocrites ...

I'm really sorry for you. Same happened to my dad last year :( he came into the hospital but it was too late for him, multiple organ failure and he had panic attacks all the time cause he couldn't breath. I don't understand why people drink too much on purpose to be cool. :(
@bretteveretthowell32765 жыл бұрын
@@Oldshatterjane97 Thanks, I appreciate that, and I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I think that popular American culture- at least partially- can be blamed on the "drinking to seem cool" phenomenon. There seems to be a double standard in the U. S concerning alcohol, especially when it comes down to "manly" or masculine norms... It's looked on with approval if a man can " handle his liquor" , stay up all night drinking, and drink his buddies under the table. It's considered a positive, strong quality... The very things that can lead one down a dangerous road But if the same person finds himself over indulging, drinking alone, and losing control over their ability to drink, then suddenly if they try to get the upper hand on the situation and it leaks out that they have seeked help- that they "have a problem"- no matter their sex, then they are looked down on, almost as if it's a mild cultural taboo in America. Another thing that I find to be utterly rediculous is the fact that alcohol causes more preventable death than all drugs combined. If it was somehow possible to calculate the toll it has taken on human happiness in comparison to drugs now heavily prohibited internationally by law, booze would take the cake by a landslide as the world's most destructive psychoactive compound.... And yet LSD is still a schedule 1 drug. Go figure.

Can you fault them? My gf and her father are Doctors and lemme tell you. You and I and many other people havent even the first CLUE of what it's like to work in the medical field. They absolutley hate druggies and alcoholics because it IS their fault and when you see these useless unworthy and undeserving people who self destruct, TAKE the Liver or lungs or kidneys etc away from some poor soul who did nothing wrong but be born with a diseased organ, it makes you absolutley furious to even let that substance abuse even live. They have to see good people wait and die because others who dont care about their own life, rob them of their life. I'm sorry about your circumstances but it's a truth I sympathize with

Hi everyone! Another Medical Monday here: A Student Felt A Sharp Pain In Her Side. This Is How Her Organs Shut Down: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYK2ZGCtjpKLrck Happy Medical Monday! A few notes: 1. 2. Underage drinking and/or sale to a minor is against the law.

My mom died from this but it was non-alcoholic liver disease. She lived about 6 /7 years with symptoms. The first that was noticed was the ammonia in the blood. She’d get so confused she’d only know who I was (her only child and favorite daughter as she always said). We weren’t told till it was too late she needed a transplant, at the time the list was very long and I had just had a emergency back surgery so they wouldn’t even test me (I would have gave her as much as she needed if I had had the choice and was a match) so in the end I highly suggest NOT to drink yourself to liver damage. My mom passed scared,confused and like being a skipping record player begging me not to let them kill her she didn’t want to die over and over. It’s been 3 years now and not one ounce easier when I think about it and add to it I lost my other favorite human my son in August from diabetes. As our good dr says take care of yourselves.

I very sorry to hear this. Such a terrible way to go. In fact, I know someone who has a type of psoriasis of the liver that is not caused by alcohol use. One of the biggest challenges she has faced (especially prior to her diagnosis) was people placing the blame on her for the condition because they believed she did it to herself with alcohol. I hope you're doing well. Please take care.
