Some caffeine is OK. 1-2 cups of coffee can generally be ok. Unreasonably large amounts of caffeine NOT OK.
These cases are patients who I, or my colleagues have seen. They are de-identified and many instances have been presented in more depth in an academic setting. These videos are not individual medical advice and are for general educational purposes only. I do not give medical advice over the internet, see your own physician in person for that.

My son went to the gym for the first time. That evening, he told me his urine was dark. I knew to rush him to the hospital. His urine was the colour of cola! The doctors said he had the most spectacular vase of rabdo they had ever seen. Thankfully, because we got him medical care quickly, there was no permanent damage to the kidneys.

I suffer from rhabdomyolisys. Let me tell you, my urine day one looks like a fine red wine. I can't move, can't breathe properly. I am in a state of pure paralysis when it occurs. Funnily enough, I am actually out of the hospital 1 day and watching this video. Shit is more painful than breaking bones. I pray to God none of you have to go through this torture. Edit: Unfortunately it is a genetic disease and I have no possible cure other than tolerance to stress on my muscles.

So, that my physician at the hospital having body builder muscles wasn't of relevance to me, that she had a clue how to keep the treatment team of cardiologist, pneumonologist and endocrinologist working together to get me breathing well again was the priority, not hair style or lifting technique (actually, the muscle build is more of an orthopedic surgeon's build). Went in breathing around 60 breaths per minute, due to mild pneumonia, left stable, breathing room air comfortably and while still dropping weight, now I'm dropping about a pound per week, rather than ten pounds per week and that'll taper off as the thyroid is wrangled the rest of the way under control. Just as well from my seat, as I dealt with plumbing, structural and infectious diseases in my military career, dealing with things that aren't plumbing was and remains well above my pay grade.

@@melonieashway4189 I am not the original commenter. I wouldn't exactly have worded it in that way, but it is very important to drive home the seriousness of the condition by saying "made a recovery" vs "made a full recovery". Of course I wish that every one of these patients would make a full recovery, but the reality is that they won't. Sometimes, things like this distinction are needed to add gravity to what Dr. Bernard is saying. Actions have consequences, and sometimes your mistakes follow you through your whole life, if you are lucky enough to survive them.

And thanks for NOT putting ads or openings! I try not to rely on caffeine to get through the day, and in a way I cant anyway. Just a cup and I get jitters, badly dehydrated and other side effects. You'll also notice that you see the same organs come back in these videos because there's only so many things these organs do. It's not like we have the entire periodic table in our bodies, the vast majority of what we have are organic compounds, minerals and salts, and some trace elements like metals. When people do something extreme, the natural processes gets distorted, so the common compounds in our bodies are affected, and the organs which deal with those compounds are affected. These people weren't deficient before they did something they shouldn't have, the deficiency is caused by the natural processes going haywire.

I had a near caffeine overdose when I was in college. Very similar circumstances. I was pulling an all nighter and had multiple monster energy drinks and cups of coffee. Most importantly, I had not eaten anything in about 24 hours and obviously got no sleep either. I had crammed to prepare for an audition and mid-song my brain stopped working. I lost where I was and sort of dumbly pointed to the end of the piece and asked the pianist to play the ending. Then I left the room and collapsed. I was shaking uncontrollably and had major brain fog. I was lucky enough to fall into the arms of my roommate. She took me to my next class and warned them what had happened. It felt like my spine was vibrating and my heart was racing. I felt certain I was going to have a seizure or something. Someone was kind enough to get me something to eat and once I'd gotten a good portion down, the shaking slowed and I eventually felt exhausted but not on the brink if emergency. Ever since then I've sworn hummus saved my life. I didn't like it at the time, but got very attached after that lol.

When I was 20 (young and dumb) I tried to drive from Florida to Ohio starting at 6pm. I drank a few mountain due and took a bit of tobacco chew. I made it to Tennessee then became very sick. Puked behind a gas station then rested in my car. My hands began to tremble and I could not focus then I knew I had OD’d on caffine/nicotine. I woke up several hours later feeling better so I was lucky compared to the student in the story.

So thank you for the educational entertainment...I love your friends, the actors, they are awesome!!
