In Dricus' mind an African champion or real African champion is someone who resides in Africa, trains in Africa etc., etc.. He wants to be the first African residing champion. That is HIS thing, that is part of HIS goal. Why is this so important to him? Why is this so important to us as South Africans? Do you know why? In very short terms, South African people leave to go to first world countries as they believe there are better opportunities out there and mostly they are right. South Africans have this mindset that they have to leave the continent in order to make it in life. Dricus is a patriot. He created the CIT gym. He is giving younger guys opportunities that he never had. He wants to prove that someone from Africa from a small gym can become champion, can beat people from bigger gyms all around the world. He just wants to prove that it can be done. He creates opportunities and hope for the younger generation. The poor people in this country can't leave. They need hope. Poverty is a massive problem in South Africa. As a South African that is extremely important to us. People don't understand our pride, people don't understand our patriotism, people don't really get what this is about. Dricus wants to prove that you don't have to leave. We have the resources right here. We wants South Africans to believe in their own country. Dricus' initial comment was based on a question about the 3 African champs taking the belts back to Africa. Of course the belts went to Africa, but after that it went home. They did not use African resources and stayed in Africa to get where they are. But this was just a response to a question, in essence, this actually has nothing to do with the 3 African champs. Nothing. All those other stuff people speak about, apartheid, race etc.. people outside the borders of South Africa are misssing the ball by a mile. This includes, Joe, Helwani, DC, Izzy and the public outside of South Africa. We as South Africans immediately knew what he meant and he also confirmed what I just said in much more detail in multiple interviews. Maybe educate yourself by speaking to people from South Africa and not what you read on the internet. You are supposed to be smart. I am shocked how little you know about it. Let's move to the IG posts from Dricus and coach. You know when this became personal from DDP's camp? After Israel's comments about dragging DDP's carcass across South Africa amd Usman's China comments. There is a lot there, it is here where it became personal, those IG posts about NZ, My Africa my home etc. were in response to that. Why do you guys ignore that fact? Leon explained himself to show respect to Bisping and to say that he's giving hope to people who are training in the UK and they don't gotta feel like they have to move to a different country to become world champ. DDP would've been alright had he directed it all to Izzy cuz he wants to fight him. But to know Ngannou's story and how he came up in Africa and not considering him an African champ is disrespectful.
