Man, I've got to tell you, I have a newfound respect for those of you who live here. Today being my first full day, I did a lot of walking around earlier. I hit a gym, walked down perimeter, went over to SM Mall, and over to Pure Gold in DAU, all the while returning to my hotel in between these stops. By the time I finished my day back at the hotel I could literally taste the fuel and fumes in my mouth and lungs, and it seemed I chose the perfect times to do my walking - rush hour. I said no way, I couldn't live here. And as far as them open-air markets, I'm sorry, but I could just see the bacteria "percolating" amongst the seafood. Lol.

yes especially on overcast low cloud bank days the pollutants can hang 😬 as for the markets i too was initially freaked by the flies etc but soon accepted it knowing all that gets cleaned and cooked prior to eating 👍

@@chubsDubC In addition to the pollutants hanging, I think having to oftentimes walk in the street, many times almost in the midst of the vehicles and motos, doesn't help. In fact, just this morning I was walking along MacArthur and as much of the sidewalk space is occupied, I had to walk out in the street maneuvering around traffic, and them around me, inhaling their exhaust every time they accelerated around me. Of course, it is what it is and no amount of my complaining is ever gonna change it. Just have to wait it out until I get back home.

Same here. My mom used to bring one of her kids to Olongapo City Public Market to help her in buying some meat, fish, etc. I really don't like the smell inside the market, hehehe.Glad we moved to San Francisco, CA,hahaha. You’re worried about skin tax. I did a test, gave a list of goods to buy, I paid less than my girlfriend at the same vendors one test. Another I came up less on different vendors overall. It’s all about bargaining skills not skin color. It was to prove the point to my girlfriend, now the world. Only a fool would pay any sort of skin tax, anyone with common sense and time in country would tell them in Tagalog to keep it and walk away. Have lived in country since 1983. I would call it a fool tax, only a fool would pay it, or an individual that spends part time or new to the Philippines does not know better.

I am an English white guy who lives between uk and the Philippines for the last ten and there is definitely a skin tax ..only a fool would think other wise ,I am constantly asked to pay above the going rate …only experience will protect you from it! Even good haggling skills do not always help as sometimes they would rather not sell it to you as a white guy unless you pay a high price they will keep it for the locals.

Chubs we have a fruit and vege guy park across from our bar every day. The guy sells to all white and Filipinos and there is no prices difference. He got him self very good coustomer base every day.
