Soprattutto cosa e' il rock and roll senza di lui? Lui era il rock and roll in persona.

Chuck Berry was The Man. He was the guy that showed how much guitar could influence rock & roll. There will never be another guitarist/singer like Chuck Berry. Rock on and RIP my friend. We miss your music and your magic.

Amazing. All those 15- to 20-year-old kids knew all the words to Chuck's biggest hits. Hits that were released 15 years prior. Consider that those audience members probably didn't know who was appearing on November 2, 1973's show until they entered the studio for the taping.

I was at this taping (and many others in 1973), but yes, we knew who was going to perform. I can’t remember if it was on the ticket or where we picked up the tickets

November 71 Mom had broken her leg so my grandparents (my grandfather was a doctor) took me out of school and we were heading down to their winter home in Florida. Because of my mom's broken leg we got to ride the elevator to the plane before the other passengers. Chuck Berry was also on the elevator ❤❤ he looked at my Mom with her broken leg and said "Some people do anything to go to Florida in the Winter time !!!😅

To this day, rock and roll just sounds different that it would have without the contributions of Chuck Berry.

On a show that’s hosted Aerosmith, the Dolls, T. Rex, Bowie, Kiss, Blondie, and the Cars, it’s so cool to see a young crowd get into Chuck Berry’s performance more than any of those (at the time) younger bands.

. Check Berry is known as having the first big Rock and Roll hit on the radio- “Maybellene” reached #5 on the billboard charts in 1955. I have watched a ton of Midnight Special shows, but I can't ever remember seeing people getting up and dancing like this. The crowd reaction to this performance is too fun to watch. I went to a LOT of concerts growing up in the 1970's and probably my only regret is that I didn't get up and boogie more, like the girl in the front with the British flag on the back of her shirt!! She knows how to have fun imo. Ironically Chuck didn't have a #1 hit until 1972 ( a year before this was filmed ) "My Ding a Ling". It's amazing to me that it even made it on the radio because 1972 was a time when this country was still Vary VARY conservative.

Loved Chuck Berry since I was a kid growing up in the 60s... BUT... "Rocket 88" by Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats, recorded in 1951, is often credited as the first rock and roll record due to its blending of rhythm and blues, jazz, and country styles and its influence on the subsequent development of rock and roll. It is also credited with popularizing the electric guitar, which would become an iconic instrument in popular music. The song was a major hit, reaching No 1 on the R&B charts and propelling Brenston and the Delta Cats to stardom.

I bet the Midnight Special told the audience they could clap, but to stay seated while the performance was being recorded. But, some thought, hey, this is Chuck Berry and I'm standing up... And the others followed. 😄

He was so damn happy the children had been listening. He knew their parents (many of them) wasnt crazy about finding out their kids was listening to a BLACK man make such rocking sounds they knew their kids couldnt resist. Parents didnt want those black folks getting all that praise and recognition. When Berry 1st started playing he had to follow the green book for safe traveling and could only play the chitlin circuit. So for him to get to witness the changes made over the decade (and some change) and realize he had such a large white audience in spite of the youngins parents not wanting them to listen to such w rocking black man, I'm sure warmed his soul

Chuck ha semplicemente dimostrato che un NERO può essere superiore ad un bianco ed essere migliore. Io ci credo che Elvis-cime ha detto Tom Jones- lo riteneva il più grande. Pure John Lennon. Bob Dylan , Michael Jackson...

Chuck Berry was a bridge musician, bringing black music to a white audience. Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly the same however they were white guys bringing black music to white audiences.
