If you have a traditional one through 5 lineup the players know what to do and bringing in a defensive coach is great. If you wanna rewrite basketball with essentially 4 wings and a center you need an offensive genius at coach. That's not the only reason to fire Vogel. He made no offensive adjustments mid kept KD standing in the corner all year, called for a foul up 4 with 10 seconds left. Sending the game into double OT and calls his other 2 starters role players and the other guys minimum guys. Normal for media and fans not ok as coach, get him out now.

Chuck’s just tired of these former players in media who want to be buddy-buddy with current players for access, and so they blame everything on coaches. Also Phoenix and the Lakers are Exhibit A and Exhibit B of why you don’t let star players build your roster for you.
@everythinglakers1713
@everythinglakers1713 27 күн бұрын
The star players on the Lakers literally didn't have much of a say. The Russ trade, yes Bron/AD were heavy factors for it but besides that, Bron wanted Caruso, front office let him go. Bron wanted Demar, team didn't do it. Bron wanted to keep Dudley to maintain 2020 championship veteran presese, team said no. Star players on every team have a say or at the very least is informed about roster construction

I still think Monty Williams should have never been let go. He brought the Suns to the Finals for the first time in nearly 30 years and they were up 2-0 against the Bucks before blowing it all to Milwaukee. The Suns then made it to the second round of the playoffs the next two years in a row. Yeah, no championships were won under Monty Williams but the Suns never got swept during his time as head coach nor did they have a first round playoff exit.

Vogel is good, has problems on offense sometimes but defensive schemes are great. Ham no. Ham needs to start with a young team with no expectations to get the experience and build himself up. Happy for him to be a coach in the league but not one for a team with championship aspirations at this stage of his career

Not defending Ham, but what you said in closing is the biggest part of the problem. The Lakers have championship aspirations, but those aspirations are CLEARLY unrealistic. The Lakers are a bad team, a bad team that is hyped by their slurpers, and shameless sports media. They were a 7th seed that had to play in the 'play-in' for crying out loud. The Lakers shouldn't have had any expectations, so Ham should have been fine with them.

Chuck is 100% about Vogel, he’s 50% right about Ham, yes my lakers roster sucks defensively because we have up KCP to the wizards, let Caruso walk to Chicago and didn’t try to replace Dwight and Javale he is right about that, but Darvin Ham is not a good coach, he’s not a good strategist he doesn’t handle minute management and rotations well, he’s having Taurean Prince who’s an ok 3&d player playing more minutes than he should and utilizing him wrong and don’t get me started on how he just lets D’Lo go play rec style ball and chuck up shots it was irritating to watch. The Lakers, arguably the premier organization in the entire NBA, have an obligation to their fans to hire the absolute best available coach in the league. Does anybody think Ham is that guy?

Why Lakers got a rookie head coach in Brons last years I dont understand. At least you get a proven head coach that players respect and went through the process, it's a big difference between head and assistant coach. And if you still lose then you can say Lakers front office tried their best.

Usually Chuck is right on these things, but not in Ham's case. He did a bad job with the Lakers.

While it’s true that the players could have been better, Darvin Ham does not escape any blame lol. Some of the arguments stacked against him were the way he called his timeouts, adjustments, barely challenged and played certain players longer than they should throughout the season. If this wasn’t the case, then fans and media alike would be blaming the players more than the coach.

He's right, as a coach of the team you have to be a little more aggressive to management. If I'm gonna get the blame then ya better damn make sure I have the tools to succeed

CHUCK DOESN'T WATCH FILM .. HE DOESN'T WATCH GAMES .. DARVIN HAM SUBBED IN THE WRONG PLAYERS AT THE WRONG TIMES, IT WAS BAD COACHING AND MOST IMPORTANT THE PLAYERS DID NOT WANT TO PLAY FOR HIM.

I agree with you, a team is only as strong as it's weakest player... or in the case of the Lakers...players!

I think this all goes back to superteam building crap that really isn’t as successful as many would make it out to be. Team culture is whats lacking on these squads.

This after Shaq got done talking about how he was jealous of LeBrons power over his coach in Cleveland when he was there and able to force training schedule changes and allow family and friends on team flights. The front office are just too scared to lose star players and give them too much power. Now coaches cant even coach without fear of losing their job because their star doesnt like them. Pop and Spo are the only ones immune.

The Lakers played very well. The games were all close. They took miracle game winners from the Nuggets to win 2 of them
