Excerpted from episode 48 of The Clifton Duncan Podcast:
• Why Modern Comics Suck...
Chuck Dixon is the most prolific scripter in the history of comic books, with well over 40,000 pages of comics in publication.
His work on both Batman and the "Punisher" are considered seminal to those franchises. He contributed the majority of the writing done on the legendary 'Knightfall' event for the Batman comic, which formed the basis for Christopher Nolan’s "Dark Knight" trilogy (he also co-created the iconic villain Bane, with Graham Nolan), and is also the co-creator of the Birds of Prey comic series with Jordan B. Gorfinkel.
Characters he’s created for both DC and Marvel have appeared repeatedly in movies, television, and games and his adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s "The Hobbit" remains an international bestseller thirty years after its first publication.
Chuck is also known worldwide, with comics written specifically for the European and Indian markets.
He remains a major player in the growing world of independent comics, with dozens of new titles produced in recent years, and has written more than thirty novels (including his popular "Levon Cade" series and his recent "Conan the Barbarian" novel).

Gotta love Chuck Dixon. unlike the people at DC now I think he actually cares about what he's doing.

When you care more about the character than a "message." Great clip Clifton.

I actually interpreted Christopher Nolan switching Robin with Commisioner Gordon to make the Triumvrate. Gordon, Alfred, and Batman were the Triumvrate of the Nolan Trilogy

1:54 Having read a few Batman comics, I agree; Bruce needs his supporting cast to give him more humanity, with Alfred as a father figure and Dick and the other Robins as his children (literally in the case of Damien). Tim Drake was introduced with the idea of Batman needing a Robin, and that was worked into the storyline; Tim figures out Batman’s identity and then tells Bruce that he needs him.

The shades of the Scarlet Pimpernel/Sir Percy Blakeney in Batman/ Bruce Wayne are delightful.

I have to watch the full interview. However I'll say here what I've been saying for years: Chuck Dixon should be the Batman group editor like how Denny O'Neil was for him 30+ years ago

You guys completely leave out Kevin Conroys contribution. He was the one that developed the idea that Bruce Wayne is the mask batman puts on whilst batman is his true self. Also the mainstream audience don't get batman as they seem to think Robin doesn't work as a character with batman.

3:00 And speaking of Wayne Enterprises, I don’t think there was a story addressing Bruce’s wealth and investments. Yes, we read Batman stories for the action and detective elements, why not tackle the company side of things ? If there are such stories, please do recommend. Thank you.

I always preferred the comics where he was a loner but that's just the way I feel, the only storyline's with robin that I love were dark victory and Batman the animated series, even though the latter wasn't a comic it's every bit as important as the comic's.

I kind of feel the same about Joker with Harley Quinn. I like the Joker being this force of chaos and destruction that comes and goes - and I feel Harley makes him a bit more goofy and less threatening as a villain.

Ever read the comics that tied into the animated series? They're REALLY good

Chuck Dixon shows how it's done, have respect, trust the past, trust the fans, stay humble. All the things modern sjw types are unwilling to do. Which is why they fail. Activists who do not understand the human heart can never be good propagandists.
