Watch Rick Beato's What Makes this Song Great episode on Steely Dan's songs that Chuck played on. His isolated track and just the bass and drums is amazing. Chuck has feel and knows what to play which will compliment the song, something that can't be taught but is enhanced by listening to a wide range of music of the greats. I love Marcus Miller but his playing of melody lunes doesn't cut it for me, the riffs on Run for Cover, Never Too Much, Friends and Strangers etc put Marcus in the same league as Chuck. These guys have given us so much, thank you Chuck and your contemporaries.
