People have asked me for clarity on why Calvary split and I have shared The board chose Brian and he split Calvary into two CGN vs CCA…. Your pastors will know more and please reach out to them… I love my family and lived with both the Brodersen’s and my grandparents in my adult years and know this is a very difficult and sensitive subject. However, hopefully God will reach those who needed clarity and peace in this topic. Blessing

My family was saved at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa. Will forever be grateful to Chuck Smith for faithfully teaching the Word to the end. We are staying the course. Thankful for the Pastor’s like John Randall and other CCA pastors who are staying the course. Numbers don’t lie. Costa Mesa CC is on life support while the churches that continue to adhere to the Calvary Distinctives are flourishing.

Exactly. It IS the Lord’s business! I would listen to Chuck Smith all the time when I lived in S Cal during my years in the Marine Corps in the early 80s. Years later After moving back east I started listening to him again and would occasionally hear Broderson on the sermon archives and I could tell that he was not of the same mindset as Chuck. Even then I couldn’t understand why Pastor Chuck had him preaching. I would never waste one minute of my life listening to BB. The church split did not surprise me at all. The birds of the air nest even in the branches of CCCM. Very sad.

Your grandfather’s sermons are the best. As a new Christian about 15 years ago, they fed me on my daily commute to work and still do. Thanks for this clarification as I noticed Brian’s radio program where folks called in, he had some strange unbiblical outlooks, beyond the logical doubts of forbidding women to teach. Sorry your folks had to deal with this. But your grandfather’s pure teaching will long surpass the others.

I have been listening to Pastor's Perspective and still have Rick Warren (pals with Francis Collins good grief) on there promoting yikes. I also see the infiltration of globalistic ideals. Taking government monies to promote and influence uptake of certain substances and bringing on pro-poke individuals to sway the brethren to uptake poison is very immoral. I get they may have been deceived at the time but what about now? Left CCCM for these reasons and fully supporting JD Farag in Hawaii who has left this group. I hope CCCM has an spiritual epiphany soon and some repentance. Grateful to have been water baptized by Pastor Chuck. God bless Chuck and Kay.

I now attend Calvary Chapel Chino Hills and continue to be blessed by with a true shepherd who love the lord Jesus. We are all so thankful for pastor Chuck Smith for being a true servant of God. The Distinctives that set Calvary Chapel apart were ordained of the Lord. The fruit was evident and the blessings of God continued. My heart is broken and aches over this take over. I call it a coup. When David was coming into power he did not demand loyalty and did not sweep in to seize the office of King after Saul died. He waited on God to establish his leadership. Thank you for sharing your story with us from your families experience. I love my pastor Chuck and miss Calvary Chapel, it was a wonderful and unique move of God. 🙏❤️‍🩹

So glad the algorithm placed this video in my feed. I was saved in 1999 and couldn’t get enough of the teachings of your grandpa, Chuck Missler, Raul Ries, Pancho Juarez, Steve Mays, Ray Bentley, Mike Macintosh, Don McClure etc. on KWVE. When I attended my first Men’s Conference at the Anaheim Convention Center, I was in awe seeing several of those mentioned in person. In fact when Chuck Smith came out to open the conference, I was dumbstruck! (I used to belong to the Catholic religion. So for me, seeing Chuck Smith in person was like I had seen the pope!) As the conference wound down, Brian Broderson was the last speaker. When he stepped up to the podium, many men got up and started walking out. The Convention Center was nearly emptied by so many men leaving. At the time, I thought it was guys just wanting to beat the traffic. But I noticed that happened at the following conferences I attended. For some reason, seeing that really bothered me. Like many others, my wife and I were saddened to hear Chuck Smith passed away. It was also sadder to see the rift between CCCM (Brian) and other CCs. I never fully understood what was happening until I heard Brian’s stance on teaching the Book of Revelation and his plan for Big Cav. I was also shocked to hear Cheryl was also teaching on Sundays! Thank you for your message as it helps to fill in the holes of what occurred. May God bless you always. Maranatha! ✝️

I never met Chuck, my wife had the pleasure of sitting under him for 13 years. My claim to fame is that i was riding my bike with a friend in the Newport back bay and will passing and intersection of a nice quite neighborhood, I encountered Chuck sitting in his big stretched Lincoln (or was t a Cadillac?) at the stop sign and he is sitting there with his left hand on the wheel and his right arm stretch out across the top of the bench seat. He see that I recognized him and gives me that Chuck smile and a little wave of his hand. I shall never forget it. That was 1999.

The story that you told is almost exactly the story I got 11 years ago. Thank you for sharing. I MUST tell you that I LOVED Pastor Chuck so much! Before I moved away, I attended CC in the 1970s. I vividly remember Sunday mornings in the sanctuary. Chuck would come out with a huge smile and an absolute glow about him. And before he taught, he would dedicate babies to the Lord, which it seemed he loved doing. Further, Chuck was good friends with Chuck Missler, and I ended up in the same place where Missler taught and attended his teaching for several years. Two blessed men! These last days are rapidly becoming more and more bizarre. Many megachurches having scandal and/or straying from the true word of God. It's beyond heartbreaking. At the appointed time, God has promised to make all the crooked places straight.

Thank you for this update. I was saved under Chuck Smith on the radio 44 years ago. I still listen to my WFT tapes every day. Hearing this I would have to question Brian's motives and salvation. The enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy. There is no biblical purpose for philosophies in the church, only the Truth of the Word of God. If Brian's family has created a division from the Truth, they will be judged. As Paul writes: "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." 🙏🙏🙏

When I lived in California I went to Jack Hibb’s church for around 3 years; but at one point I went to Brian Brodersen’s church for about a month. I found Brian to be somewhat watered-down, and overall the church was fairly flat in the Spirit. It’s too bad there was not an overt “Joshua” to take over for Chuck Smith, or an appointed governing body. There are still many solid Calvary Chapel’s out there, but let’s lift them up in prayer: “Father, I lift up Calvary Chapel to you Lord, your will be done. It has been a special church over the years, a church your Holy Spirit has worked through much. I pray your Holy Spirit will continue to lead and guide and influence, and that you will set all of the issues straight. I pray you will raise up who ought to be raised up, and bring low who ought to be brought low. I lift up Brian Brodersen to you Lord, your will be done. I love you and I lift this all up in Jesus mighty name. Amen.” ❤️🙏🔥✝️🔥🙏❤️

I am so relieved by this. I was wondering how in the world Pastor Chuck could have chosen BB as his replacement, how he could not have seen him for what he is. I had my fill of BB listening to Pastor’s Perspective on the radio, he said a few things that sent up immediate red flags. Pastor Chuck was incredible and I am so very thankful for him because our pastor, Jack Hibbs of Calvary Chino Hills, was a disciple of his and in turn, teaches us strictly from the Bible. No progressive BB nonsense at CCCH. Like Pastor Jack says, God is separating the wheat from the tare. He is letting bad churches die. Hopefully someone else can resurrect CCCM, but it doesn’t sound like that will happen anytime soon. We will see God’s will in the future for each and every Calvary Chapel.

It truly was sad when the split took place between CCA and CGN, it was heartbreaking yet, at least we are now able to discern between the two groups. Thank you for sharing and clarifying. Pastor Chuck dedicated me to the Lord in the tent, and then years later, in 1984, he prayed for me to receive the Holy Spirit. I loved your grandpa and his anointed teaching so very much. I listen to his recorded sermons to this day. I currently attend online (I'm bedridden) at Calvary Diamond Bar - Pastor Raul, and a few other Calvarys that hold true to Pastor Chuck's vision and the Calvary Distinctives - teaching and preaching the whole counsel of God, avoiding new age philosophies and not conforming to this world's views. God bless you, and keep you, and make His face shine upon you. May He be gracious to you, and lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.

Thank you for your referral. I truly appreciate your concern. But I’m burned out on pastors. Not one of the Calvary Chapel pastors where I attended, two to three times a week, visited with me or gave me any comforting counsel after my son committed suicide. I tried but got nothing. What happened to “rejoice with those that rejoice and mourn with those that mourn”? And “bare one another’s burden”? Then my back went out badly and I’ve been bed bound for over 2 years, closer to 3. And the same thing. Except for about 3 visits. Nobody else either. No what it’s like to NEVER have human interaction? I’m use to it now, mostly. But one visit every 365 days! Me I’ll pray and read God’s precious, lovely, AWESOME Word over and over. Pray and worship in my house the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!!! Praise the Lord!😊 But because “iniquity shall abound the love of many shall wax cold.” And I think because of Matthew chapter 7 many who think they are going to Heaven won’t. “Depart from Me … I never knew you. When I was sick, in prison, etc. you didn’t minister to Me through these people. (Paraphrase). There’s actually more. But you didn’t even ask for this much so I’ll spare you.

Thank you for addressing the concerns that im sure many have had. Im greatful that Papa Chuck recorded his teachings from Genesis to Revelation and lots of material to reference. The Spirit of God instilled wisdom in him to keep the word of God as it should be taught. My family attend Calvary Chapel Golden Springs and our Pastor Raul Reis always tells us to always read the scripture and be guided by the Holy Spirit because he can say things that may or may not align with Gods message. We miss Papa Chuck very much but we will see him again❤

Thank You so much for explaining this. Pastor Chuck Smith is the man who gave me the foundations for understanding Scripture, and life’s perspective through a Biblical lens …from the 1980’s, to this very day. Any Pastor I adopt to this day, follows the Chapter-by-Chapter, Verse-by-Verse, Genesis through Revelation foundational outline, as taught by Pastor Chuck Smith CCCM. I also go through Pastor Chuck’s C3000 Series in alternate years. I have found, for myself, that those Pastor’s who do not follow a Chapter-by-Chapter, Verse-by-Verse foundation as the main course, often attempt to adapt Scripture to modern topics of the day and/or a churchy TED Talk, with little to no emphasis on the Eternal. My opinion, if we are going to Church for any other reason than to learn about and serve Almighty GOD, with a prime focus on the Eternal, then I consider the point of Church to be lost. Thank You for your candid explanation : )

I wasn't saved until 1988. It was at a word-of-faith church, so I didn't hang out there very long. I started attending Calvary Chapel in Bellflower, CA, and during my time there, I was also introduced to the yearly gathering in Costa Mesa, hosted by Pastor Chuck. I believe it was called Harvest? It was in an open air arena, and many CC pastors from several different areas came to speak. It was always such an uplifting experience. My husband and I left California in 2001 and, unfortunately, there is no CC in our city in Arkansas. I loved sitting under the teaching of Pastor Jeff in Bellflower though. I still have several steno pads filled with notes I took at Sunday morning services and Wednesday night Bible study. Teaching through the Bible, verse by verse, is the only way to go!

Thank you for this input. I was saved at CCCM 1982. There are not enough words to explain the impact that Pastor Chuck, his teaching, and his relationship with the Lord had on me. I well up with gratitude and emotion to this day thinking about my time there. Listening to his teaching I could always understand, see, and feel the love God had for me. It was absolutely heart wrenching to see what transpired during the split. Broke my heart for the precious flock of God that he faithfully cared for all those years and for you, his family. I had moved from California long before the split but always kept up with what was going on. It was my first "spiritual home" and I loved it. It was clear that a very different "spirit," if you will, took over when your grandpa passed on. The heart of a shepherd was no longer in charge. But really, much of the true beauty of Pastor Chuck's legacy is the strong sheep he nurtured that continue walking with his Lord (and ours) that he so magnificently taught us to know and love. Thank you again for posting. The lord bless thee...and keep thee... the Lord make his face to shine upon thee. And be gracious unto thee, and be gracious unto thee. The lord lift up... His countenance... upon thee and give thee peace. 🙂 Such fond memories. Take heart dear sister, many have grieved over and prayed for your family and the CCCM body.

Major costly repairs needed? And did those so-called “repairs” include turning the office into what looks like a cold industrial loft with the ductwork running through the ceiling, getting rid of the courtyard fountain, removing the gorgeous stacked stone façade from the entire exterior and repainting the exterior from the adobe-sand color that blended with the red tile roof to a stark white, and painting the interior black? I sat under Pastor Chuck’s teachings for 39 years until he went home to the Lord. During the last 12 of those years, Brian graciously dedicated each of my infant granddaughters for me, and would often pray for my family. Eventually, I became medically unable to attend church, but I was able to visit the campus once about a year ago, and I broke down and cried sobbing tears when I saw the changes. I used to listen to KWVE, including the Pastor’s Perspective program, but I had to stop listening out of frustration with what I was hearing. Pastor Romaine used to often tell us, “You are a well taught people.” And we were. But sadly, no longer.

Thank you for sharing. I knew Brian was off when he would be on Pastors Perspective. Even when Pastor Chuck and Don Stewart were hearing is off the wall answers. Chuck and Don would have answer the question with scripture cause Brian answered with emotions most of the time as he still does today. Chuck warned about wolves in sheep clothing would come after he passed. Boy he sure got that right. Sadly, at Calvary Costa Mesa. But there are many that have stayed the course with Calvary Chapel Association. Thank all the faithful pastors that are continuing Chuck and Kay’s vision for Calvary Chapel. Sadly, men who are teaching the Bible, as it grows...the things that aren't a joy to deal with come up. But love you guys. So thankful for what I learned through Chuck. Teach the Bible verse by verse, expositionally. You will NEVER get too far off track if you keep that in the middle of your ministry.

For this reason it says, 'Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine on you.'" If I had to weight the tongue, and it seems both of our verses require the tongue, yours to not use in a certain and mine to use in a certain way, mine would carry more weight and has more biblical presence. I came from a pagan/new age background and extreme anti-man feminism. Until I came to Christ. I started off in a non-bible teaching church with a co-female pastor. Eventually, I met my husband, got married, and he led me into a CC. There I came to know the word & my heart was changed from what it was. Years later, Pastor Chuck had gone onto Glory & I was listening to the pastor's perspective, which Brian had taken over. A woman called to say that her husband was not nice and rude. He also was not a believer. She said she had left him but that her church was saying she needed to return to him because that's what the bible says & that's how she could win him to Christ. Instead of Brian stepping in with scripture, he was interrupted &suddenly, there was Cheryl. Cheryl said she had no reason to go back to that man until he was nice to her and that it was not her place to win him to Christ nor her place to be unequally yoked (even though she was already married to him & he was trying to work things out with her). I was floored after she said, "Right Brian?" and he said, "Uhm, yeah." and ended that call. I took the K-Love app off my iPad & phone and was just done with all CC things. I was so grossed out by the blaspheming of God's word & Cheryl thinking she could 1 teach the word & 2 ignore the word for her own feelings on a subject. 1 Peter 3 " Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives" **Edited to Add* Thank you so much for exposing things. As someone who grew up in a physically, sexually, and emotionally abusive home, one of the things that was always engraved into me was, "We don't talk about what happens at home with anyone." It wasn't for many years that I realized that I was told this to protect my abusers. This was the thing that always gave me stomach aches about church/spiritual abuse. The abusers call you a "slanderer" or "gossip" if you expose their evil to the sun. 1. it's not slander when it's true. & 2. if someone asks me, why I am no longer at a place that abused me, I'm not going to lie to them or cover up the abuse. My husband and I told a friend we were planning on leaving this giant CC for a much smaller one. We wanted closer relationships. This person, who was our friend, said, "OH! To pastor so & so's church?" I said, yes, why? She said, "oh no reason." A year later, after we left that place, she was like, "I could not believe you guys were going there with all the things that man & his crazy wife have done to ppl!!!"I was so hurt. Turns out, Everyone knew about this guy & his mentally unhinged, controlling wife, and no one warned us because they were afraid to "slander & gossip." Ephesians 5:11 "Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them."

The rapture is absoloutly biblical....after the rapture takes place, the world will be in great catastrophic chaos, because the Holy Spirit is removed....the tribulation will be hell on earth. We are not appointed to God's wrath, which is Jacob's trouble, which purpose is for Israel, so they will know who their True messiah is....listen to Jd Farag, pastor, of kaneohe, Hawaii. I simply prayed and asked the Lord, 10 yrs ago, for the truth about the pre tribulation rapture. Literally the next day, Jd farag popped up on my screen with a message titled "The Blessed Hope"... had no clue what those words meant at the time. God answered me just the way he knew I needed.( jd provided scripture after scripture, along with the understanding of the Greek and hebrew) I believe jd disenfranchised himself from calvary chapel due to the direction it was going. He loves Chuck Smith. He is a Lebanese pastor, who was born and raised in Lebanon, who found Jesus as a young man and self taught himself the Bible. He often speaks of how he was told he was Palestinian, but thru studying God's word, found there is no such thing.....he says, he is an Arab! He understands Bible prophecy, and literally the culture in the middle east and the language! God has truly used this man for such a time❤

Dear brother in Christ... I think I can help you with your objection to the Biblical doctrine of the rapture. I will share with you what God showed me in His word on this topic. Many people come to their belief on this topic because teachers have not started at the right place. I liken it to starting to watch a movie at the half way point and then explaining the whole movie to someone else. The Lord laid this scripture on my heart and showed me that this is where you must start. 1st John 4:1-3... " Dear friends, do not believe every spirit but test the spirits to see if they are from God because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God but every spirit that DENIES that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not from God. This is the spirit of antichrist whom you have heard is coming and even now is in the world." How does this teach us that there will necessarily be a pre-Tribulational rapture? Notice John's emphasis on Jesus "coming in the flesh". This was vital because it was the only way Jesus could take our sins upon Himself when He died on the cross. But He also took something else upon Himself...God's WRATH...the WRATH we deserved as Christ rejectors. When anyone teaches or believes that the Church will have to go through the Tribulation , which is the WRATH of God on all Christ rejectors, they are really saying that Jesus never dealt with our WRATH problem on the cross. They are in effect DENYING that Jesus Christ came in the flesh. This undermines the person and work of Jesus and it cheapens the costly salvation He obtained for us who believe. And what is behind this teaching , according to John? The demonic...the spirit of antichrist. We see this same spirit manifesting itself in Peter's rebuke of Jesus when Jesus told him that He was about to be betrayed, suffer and die. What did Jesus tell Peter? " Get behind me satan for you have in mind the thoughts of man and not of God. With this understanding of how it was important that Jesus came in the flesh because that was necessary to deal with our sin and God's WRATH, we can now PROPERLY understand what Paul meant when he wrote to the Thessalonians on the topic of the Tribulation and rapture. Paul wrote " You are NOT appointed unto WRATH...". But notice the rest of the sentence "...but to receive SALVATION through Jesus Christ our Lord". Right there Paul ties a pre-Trib rapture back to the work of Jesus Christ on the cross dealing with God's WRATH. Now we can address Mathew ch 24 which some try to say proves that there will be no pre-Trib rapture. Look at the context of Mathew ch 24. Jesus is taking jewish questions from His jewish disciples, namely , what will happen to Israel. They asked Him again in Acts ch 1 right at His ascension. Notice how many "jewish only" references Jesus uses in His answer to the question, "What will be the sign of the end and of your coming?". Jesus mentions "the abomination of desolation", "the temple", "the sabbath", "the rooftops", " the Judean countryside" and "the elect". Ok, so who are the "elect" ? Jesus tells us when He said "Unless those days were shortened not even the elect would survive". Notice what it says in Zechariah 13:8-9 ...Zechariah being the OT version of the book of Revelation. " In the whole land" , declares the Lord, "Two thirds will be struck down and perish, yet one third will remain in it. This one third I will bring into the fire; I will refine them like silver and test them like gold." This one third that God will "bring into the fire" is the "elect" that Jesus was talking about. Mathew ch 24 is about what happens to ISRAEL, not the church, and so it actually disproves that the Church will go through the Tribulation. I hope this helps, and there are many other scriptures I could explain, but I will end with this one . In Revelation we read " The testimony of Jesus IS the Spirit of prophecy. In other words the person and work of Jesus is always the central consideration for understanding the word of God and especially prophecy. God showed me this, I'm not smart enough to make any of it up.

Right after Pastor Chuck passed away, I heard Brian, via audiotape, make those statements at that Northwest pastor's conference. It was disrespectful toward Chuck and it made it clear Brian was of a "progressive" mindset. I knew immediately there would be a problem. I've never listened to anything from CCCM since. Additionally, I clarified with my own CC pastor as to where he stood on this issue. Brian and his followers do not teach or receive the whole counsel of God. The Lord was with Chuck. Thankfully we can still hear and read his words.

I travel throughout throughout the country in the summer. I attend Calvary Chapels when available. They all do expository teaching of the Bible as does the church I attend regularly in Menifee California (Revival Christian Fellowship). I’ve heard no aberrant teaching at these churches. I believe Calvary Chapel has exploded in the last few decades because the pastors teach God’s Word with integrity! If attendance is declining at Costa Mesa, I believe it’s because the Lord has given people discernment through The Holy Spirit and your grandfather’s dedication to rightly teach God’s word from Genesis to Revelation!

Wow , I didn’t know this I’ve been there a few times and Loved listening to Pastor Chucks sermons on the radio back in the 90’s. Your Grandpa was a great man. Calvary Chapel here in Oregon is a cult/woke church now. I was so tired of this church teaching works theology. Now I know I’m not crazy. Calvary Chapel Spokane where I came to know Jesus is the best Calvary Chapel in this country now and they have a thriving KZbin channel. Ken Ortize is from Costa Mesa and knew your grandpa. He’s 74 years old, I hope his church survives after he’s gone. Pastor Ken is a father figure to me. I now attend Athey Creek Christian Fellowship here in Oregon. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for sharing. I pray for me and for us that God will help us to declare the whole counsel of God, to rightly divide the word of truth, to be able to love for one another, and to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ.

My late husband went to CC Costa Mesa several times when in America. He met Chuck, and made lifelong, godly friends. Through a CC leader and friend in England, he was made aware of the deep concern that BB was to 'take over'. It's unthinkable that the board even 'anointed' him for the job. (Only the Lord can anoint, I believe.) Although church splits can be very traumatic, they are essential though the pain your grandmother, close family, and yourself suffered must have been harrowing. Not to mention the additional consequences of BB's actions. This morning, I was reading Galatians 1. Verses 6 - 9 says, I marvel that you are turning away SO SOON, FROM 'HIM' WHO CALLED YOU IN THE GRACE OF CHRIST TO A ''DIFFERENT'' GOSPEL. Chuck is lovingly remembered here. As for BB, we've never heard of him since. My church isn't CC, by the way, but we've been blessed by CC teaching, including teaching by Chuck Misler to name but one. All of heaven's love, blessings, power, and holy presence to you and your church.

This breaks my heart. We love both... but we align with the whole counsel of God! I'm praying for my CC family.

@@Trustnone714 that's an interesting take on my comment. I am implying that wolves have come in among the flock at CCCM.

@@Trustnone714 * You just can't help yourself can you? Hand you a shovel and all you can do is dig yourself in deeper. Now you've accused me being a liar, and a number of us as being " like our father the devil ". If you can read, I never said anything about this pastor of yours, I don't know anything about him. My complaint is with you and your attitude toward others. You might want to take that log out of your own eye before you try to take the speck out of others. If you are a Christian, you've got a lot of learning to do. You've just set back your own testimony quite always by your comments.

I’m grateful that when I got saved in the early 90s, I learned scripture at Calvary Chapel San Diego…”the full council of the Lord.” When I moved to the East Coast three years later, I realize I had the foundation that many church attendees did not have.
