My great grandfather was a Texan cattle ranch hand. I have original photos framed on my wall of him and his horse “Bill” working on the job and have his double barreled shotgun. I learned all my camp cooking skills from his son, my grandfather. Great video on camp cooking history!

Thanks Mendy, I love American frontier history because camping was a major part of their life. They had to sleep outside and cook over a campfire often. I’d like to see those photos if you can photograph them. Thanks again for watching.

Another great video Frazier. You are also a great historian. :)

Thank you Michael. I am very interested in American Frontier History because our rugged pioneer forefathers and mothers had to struggle through much hardship and had to camp and cook out so often as a normal part of life. While, in contrast, so many people today spend their entire lives sitting in overstuffed chairs in air conditioned buildings and complain bitterly when the electricity goes out for an hour or two.Take care.

Great video family camping history, chuck wagon packing... Those Cowboys knew how to do it. No crying, just getting it done. Most people today wouldn't survive without Google. Enjoyed watching. Hope all is well. Thank you for sharing. Take care Frazier D... Friend.

It is always fun to watch you videos, I love how you share all the historical information with us. You sir are a good man. Sorry I am always running behind. My wife and I are moving this spring, just sold our house so we have less than 30 days to get all our stuff moved, so it will be a busy three weeks. I will be out of internet for a couple of weeks. Thanks again for taking the time to share this with us and I look forward to seeing you channel when I get set up in East Texas and get me little office set back up for daily use. Thanks again. Dale

Hey Dale, it’s good to hear from you. Why are you moving? Are you moving to the Houston area?
@HeartlandMakesAndOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
@@moderntentcamping oh no sir. It’s Far East Texas. Near a town called Marshall Texas. My wife grew up in that area and she is ready to move back home if you will. I hope you are doing well my friend. Have a blessed weekend. Dale.

Thanks for a very interesting history lesson my friend. It has always amazed me the time it took to do things back then, people take for granted how easy we have it in this day and age. Relly cool.

Thank you for such an interesting video on the chuck wagon. I always wondered what a chuck box is as it’s not a term used commonly in Australia, now I know. 🙏

I am so sorry that I missed this when it first came out Frazier. I am in the process of designing a modern Chuck Wagon out of our cargo trailer. I need it still be functional to carry a lawn mower but I would really like it to be able to be used as a camper/kitchen for all of our outdoor cooking when we want to take short trips and not take the 5th wheel. Thanks again for the informative video.

Hey Billy, it’s good to hear from you again. That project sounds interesting. I hope you’ll post a video when you get it done. Currently, I’m struggling with kitchen shelters. I had a Clam-type instant tent but was dissatisfied with it and sold it. Then I bought an accordion EZ up-type shelter but it was too heavy and required too much packing space in our SUV. So now, I just bought an umbrella tent-type shelter and it is VERY flimsy in the wind. Now, I’m stuck. Trying to decide whether to go back to the tarp shelter or buy something else. Any thoughts? On another topic. We’re going to the Chuck Wagon Cook-Off in Pigeon Forge at the end of this month. Are you and Rhonda going? Best wishes to you both.

Thank you for your comment. I’m very interested in how our pioneer forefathers camped because, for many, camping was the foundation of their life. Many settlers lived in tents and crude shelters and cooked over open fires for long periods of time.

why was the rear box called a boot?
@moderntentcamping3 жыл бұрын
Good question. I didn’t know the answer so I looked it up. Old farm wagons (1800s) and early cars (1915 - 25 ) had a small wooden box attached to the rear for storing clothing and gear. The British word for this box was “boot” but Americans started using the word “trunk” instead.
@phililpb3 жыл бұрын
@@moderntentcamping I am in the UK so was curious because here the storage area of a car is refered to as the boot but I never new why. The US call it the trunk because early cars literaly had a travel trunk strapped to the back to carry gear.
