I was almost 60 years old when I discovered how much of my life had been spent earning a paycheck with no true mission or purpose to my life. I am so glad to hear in your story how much of your life mission and purpose being a cowboy cook has fulfilled. You truly are a blessed man sir, and I am privileged to have watched your story. When I get back behind the wheel of my 18 wheeler in the morning and pursue my ( late in life) career change, and fulfill my mission and purpose. Which is to get the frozen products you cooks need to the grocery store. I'm going to remember to thank The Lord in Heaven above for one more day of mission and purpose. Kent. This is the first time I've ever heard this from you. I really felt a great connection to you and what you do. Everything you said about cooking has been what kept me cooking. When I do camp cooking, I live for smiling faces and usually don't have to do much heavy duty washing because the people eating my foods ate every bite of it. I recently got into chuckwagon cooking in the last 8 years but have done Dutch Oven cooking for many years and you talking about your Momma letting you help her was exactly how I started. My greatest reward in cooking for people is the smiles on their faces and hearing the talking and laughing in camp. I too as you do. Serve a Savior named Jesus. I love to call myself a cook for the King because I've done a lot of church cooking as well. I am grateful that God has allowed me to cook. It give me much joy and pleasure. I'm hoping to be able to attend many cooking events for our veterans, for churches and especially for historical purposes like for our young people to keep our history and heritage alive. Kent and Shannon. Thank you for blessing our hearts. God loves you, and so do so many of us. I hope to be able to attend events and help people along. Keep up the fantastic work. Bill Shipley

I was working a pipeline that ran from Guernsey, WY to Wichita, KS. The section of the line I worked on ran from west of Sterling, CO to Tescott, KS. I had my 41ft travel trailer parked in Wakeeney, KS and was asked to relocate to Yuma, CO. We left Wakeeney the sun was shining, by the time we got to Colby, KS we were in a blizzard. We made it to Yuma and set the trailer up and that night we experienced 100mph straight line winds! Luckily my trailer was parked long ways with the wind instead of broadside. It was a heck of a miserable ride it was! Love your content!!

Cody WY, just outside of Yellowstonen, routinely gets high winds like this all the time. We lived in LaGrange WY for three years while attending BIble College there. This only happened once while we were there - 50 mph winds sustained over three consecutive days. If it came from one direction it would be tolerable. No, it came from all directions and from every vector possible. I nicknamed Cheyenne "The Hair Dryer" because of the hot summer winds that would blow through there. I'm back in high country Arizona now but I must admit, I sure do miss the people of Wyoming. Best folk I've ever met. Thanks for making this video and all your videos.

And good coffee as well☕️ What you said Kent about the hands not coming under the fly until you said it was ok, well that reminded me of my Grandma Reynolds...You didn't dare enter her kitchen unless she said so. She cooked on a wood burnin' stove up until 1982 when she got propane. Every afternoon, I'd bring in stove wood...Did that as part of my chores. She'd give me a few of the leftover biscuits with her home made jam on them and tell me what else to do....Or "Davey, you go along and help your Grandpa in the barn"...Best memories of growin up... American by birth...Hill folk by the grace of God here.

Thank you Kent for this description of the Cowboy cook! I can sort of relate to this as a 30 year veteran of the Air Force and Air National Guard as a Services Specialist(Cook) many of deployments the cooks were up at 3 am cooking 3 meals Clean up and back to bed at 9 pm several times sleeping in back of our 2.5 ton truck with our supplies. We would wake up the site with our making of hobo coffee and the smell of bacon frying on our gas field ranges. Many of times our breakfast would set the tone for the day insuring that our fellow Airman had proper nourishment to start a long day! And for most cooks it was a job you loved and felt proud of when,as the Airmen were heading to duty locations, stopping and telling you how much they appreciated what we did and how good the meal was. We had a saying which I an sure would pertain to the cowboys, a happy troop(cowboy) is a well fed troop (cowboy)!

Very nicely told. I'm so glad you talked about cackleberries because I heard that term last fall when I listened to an account that was written by a pioneer woman who moved out to Montana or thereabouts. Her name was Eleanor Pruitt Stewart. It was a pretty funny part of the story. She wrote about making some journey in the company of cowboys, and Cookie asked the boys if they'd got enough cackleberries. She asked if she could have some, and Cookie told her she'd eaten so many they were lucky to have some left for the boys. She protested that she hadn't eaten any berries whatsoever, and Cookie and the boys all laughed.

Wish we could turn back the clock to this much simpler way of life. No cell phones, or email’s. Just you and a horse doing a job. Trying like hell not to let one another down.

I get the sentiment but those times were very hard, and an infection can mean death.

My dad actually did a few stints as a "real cowboy" on cattle drives in the 50's. But he was not a "real cowboy," even though he rode as a cowboy. He could not rope, or any of the other "cowboy" skills. But honestly, on a cattle drive (in my dads time), all you had to do was be able to ride and keep the cattle going in a direction.
