We pick a used radiator and it has to be pressure tested to make sure its not a leaker before we install on a job.

That spud wrench is a classic tool. Not many know what the heck it is. I rarely use mine anymore but it's always on my truck.

@@ChuckBarron It's funny, we were just working on a job yesterday replacing 5 radiator shut offs and we had to saw EVERY nut! The spud wrench didn't work once! Those tabs inside the spud brake so easy when the brass is old. I didn't think about the oscillating multitool for that job. It looked easier to do than the old sawzall trick! Thanks for the idea brother!

them danged spuds are a pain, I did a whole house full of radiators replaced old shutoffs, bleeders and integral flow control elbows, only 3 came out, the rest instantly cleaned the ears off. so I cut the union nuts off and used pipe wrench, with the spud tool inside so it doesn't just crush and break the brass... But of course that doesn't always work and I had to change some of the steel reducer bushings threaded into the old radiators, so lots of torching, cussing, cutting, hammer and chisel action ensued, not a single radiator was broken, although would have liked to tossed some of them right out the second floor window =p the place at one time was steam heat, then converted to hot water with return piping added, so you know how mucked up, stuck and fused together it was from the steam depositing minerals.

My father has a steel radiator spud wrench...it twisted a tad over the years (from steam) but never broke. I have the piece of crap cast spud wrench that you have Chuck....it's darn near impossible to find the steel ones anymore.
