Heck, at 17 feet that rig is 3 or 4 feet shorter than my F150 extended cab pickup with an 8 ft bed. Ain't nuttin' wrong with that rig and I bet it was cheap. Keep the good stuff coming Chuck.

Chuck, The next time you mount flexible panels to a fiberglass or aluminum roof, put a layer of Coroplast (corrugated plastic) under them. It reduces heat buildup under the panels.

I must admit the idea of gluing thin flexible panels down is a lot less intimidating than the rail mounting structure you installed on your bus. But, clearly there are some significant compromises going this route: efficiency, environmental durability, service life span, cost. Great info as usual.

VHB tape is not your momma's double sided tape, it is absolutely awesome, as long as your prep is good. I used to put an aluminum skin on a cap for my pickup. A few thousand miles and no issues yet, and I don't expect any. Thanks for the report on the LED light swap out. I've been thinking about it, now I'm sure. Keep the good stuff coming.

Ive heard those flexible panels last much longer if installed with a small air gap beneath them to facilitate cooling of the panels which prolongs their service life. Some have installed them on top of a row of small diameter wooden dowels maybe spaced a few inches apart. RV with Tito KZbinr has some good tutorials on how he solved this problem.

Hey Chuck..I have a 40' Bluebird with 50amp service. I was wondering what would a realistic price for just the labor to wire up a complete victron multiplus inverter set up and do I need 2 inverters since it is 50a not 30a?

What a cool little rig 😍 I love 12v setups! Fun to watch and fun to build. Im rebuilding my whole box and I dedicated a huge spot for my install. Don't need all the space but I like to have space for future upgrades. What is your opinion about inverters build away under a bed or in a cabinet? Or does it overheat? I have a Victron phoenix 2000va and the biggest load is my induction stove.

yoo!! I just got done scraping off my flexible solar panels off my roof to replace with residential solar... One of the hardest jobs I had to do on my conversion.. The sticky double sided tar tape was the devil. I'm sure you are, but careful, and have a plan for removing the panels in the future!!!

So…in the previous video you waxed poetic about the Anker 767 Power Station and you hypothesized (backed up by a lot of facts) that it could used to replace a whole lot of traditional solar equipment (i.e., battery, battery charger, inverter, etc.) in a Skoolie. Now clearly this Tiger RV doesn’t need something as large as a 767 beast, but why didn’t you use a smaller all-in-one unit here? Thanks.
@marsrover001
@marsrover001 Жыл бұрын
Modularity is always the selling point of non all in one systems. If the MPPT breaks on your Anker, the whole thing is basically useless. With the setup shown in the video if they want more battery capacity or solar input it's very easy to change for a fraction of the price of having to upgrade to the next larger solar generator.

Why'd you face the wiring gland forward? Shouldn't it be back to prevent noise? Thanks for mentioning the durability of the solar panels. I was going to mention that when they're flush mounted, they lose life because they don't allow for air flow. I bought a refurb 160W suitcase solar panel from Ecoflow for $190. You could use these, but they take up more room. They're cheaper normally than a suitcase panel, and you can make them look better, but they can take up a lot of room.
@ChuckCassadyYT
@ChuckCassadyYT Жыл бұрын
Solar panels lose battery life? I'm confused. The gland doesn't have a front or back, I'm sure the turbulent flow of air around this brick would negate any effects of having a slightly rounded edge on the leading edge
@DeliberateNRandom
@DeliberateNRandom Жыл бұрын
@@ChuckCassadyYT Sorry, I was still watching and responding and didn't get quality sleep last night. They lose lifespan because they can't take the heat from the sun without some heat dissipation from airflow beneath the unit. I see people tape them down and when they live in sunny areas, have to replace them sooner than they should have to. Good point. Again, hard to think on a larger scale when you're tired. Just making sure that's thought of. I think Will Prowse brought it up before, but I can't remember when, and not about to go through all his videos to see it.

It'd be interesting to do a real world side-by-side test of a flexible panel that was mounted on a curve next to a flexible panel that was mounted flat to see how much of a difference there is in power output to the batteries. Hobotech mounted two non flexible 100w monocrystalline solar panels using four of the cheap little aluminum mounting brackets (per panel) that were held on to the fiberglass roof of his van by nothing but VHB 4950 tape and Eternabond. He has over 5 years and 30,000 miles on them without incident.
