Would a 2" xps panel spray foam glued to an aluminum skin on one side and 3/8" plywoid on the other be a good way to build insulated panels for a diy camper?

I wasn't looking for this, but the KZbin AI sent it. Thanks,g reat story. I lived in a 21 footer, then built a couple of trailers to use for a few years each. I morphed the last one 3 times then donated it to a foster kid rescue ranch Hope House in Idaho). I love your philosophy and clarity, so many youtubers can't even compose a decent sentence or pronounce words correctly. You've had a great run so far but it's not over. I've been dead at least 3 times and life is too good to quit. Please keep up the channel; I'm now subbed.

Hi Chuck, I know you get this question hundreds of times but can you recommend an insurance company that Will cover a roof raise Skoolie ? Soon as I call Kelly people tell me no once I mention Roof race. I did have the title changed over to motorhome. And I’m almost done with the build, i’m doing the trim and pretty stuff now. Thanks

So on another note the only thing I've ever seen foam actually do its job was in a house it was closed cell the only other insulation that I've actually seen work was rockwool in my experience with the radiant barriers is that it's a hoax I've used radiant barriers in all of my vehicles and I can't tell any difference I can tell the difference in the summer if I take a white sheet or an agricultural tarp that's white and put it over the windows that's the only time I've ever seen a difference in the summer heat coming into vehicle no matter what kind of Radiant Barrier you have on a piece of foam that you cut perfectly to fit the windows and taped it in it still has absolutely zero bearing on the amount of heat coming in the window the distance between the window and the barrier creates a hotspot which then leaks into your car most miserable

So what y'all aren't really understanding some of you want most of you will is he mentioned specifically spray foam of the closed cell variety now there is a difference in day and night between closed and open open cell will not give you the sealing effect Therefore your walls will still radiate out the warmth or the cold the problem you run into is the mold if you're in Northern climates then you really need to do research on what you want for yourself I've lived in minivans pickup trucks conversion vans and enclosed cargo trailers mold is the number one concern mold resistant closed cell fire blocking foam little bit more expensive but if you catch a spark you're less likely to die if you are in a climate that is predominantly 32° and colder then it's not going to matter what you put in there when the fire goes out there's nothing to heat soak therefore the cold will come quick no matter what kind of insulation you have I'm currently starting another build in which I will use rockwool in all the accessible places in the van I will be incorporating a campervan wood stove make and model I don't know I'm still doing that research

I'm considering doing this to my tall Sprinter work van. My issue is that I could only do it outside. And my van is charcoal gray, so any sun on the van it gets pretty hot. If it gets up to 170+ degrees in a covered building, it seems if the van skin was hot would it not get even hotter? You guys probably always have the benefit of doing these jobs indoors.

Wanted to come back to this video and comment a couple years later. I watched this video on the day it came out and started building my bus platform wishlist. I refined it a little over the years since, but all of it was essentially based on this video. After years of searching, I just found my unicorn bus... an international CE300 27'10" with a DT466 and an Allison 2500 transmission that runs and drives like an absolute dream. I came back here to make sure I hadn't forgotten anything before I made my purchase. Thanks for creating a great reference library of video information we can keep coming back to again and again. I couldn't be happier with my future home.

2 things. 1. Downside - no alternator charging without either a 24V alternator or a 12->24V DC->DC charge controller which = $$$ 2. You don't need a 24->12V converter if you use multi-volt or 24V accessories. Just about everything is available in 24V versions.

I recently purchase a 2003 Short 4 window School Bus Ford E-350 Super Duty 7.3 Power Stroke Diesel and wanted as a first thing a hitch - I found your video and thought this is exactly what I needed - watched the video like 10 times and decided I could do it - found the Curt 14082 and ordered - it arrived - however it's like 33" wide and my frame is like 42" wide ;-{ You never mentioned the measurements but your bus looked like mine. Any idea where I can get a hitch that fits mine ? Cheers

It's amazing how this classic motorhome has a better floor plan than any camper van on the market today. Can you please tell me the dimensions of the overhead sleeping area, and also the sleeping area of the dinette? Have you had any guests sleep in the dinette area? How comfortable is it? Also, is the truck a 4x4?

Ether won’t hurt a thing !!! I’ve had to use it every time I crank my international 684 tractor for the last 30 years, every time I crank it. Uses no oil, oil stays clear and clean between oil changes, engine does not smoke one bit. I’ve alway heard that ether was bad on engines, but it sure hasn’t hurt my tractor. I think 30 years is a pretty good trial period.

Chuck, Are you going to be able to fit comfortably into that narrow shower space? When you raise your arms to wash your hair, how far apart are your elbows? Seems like a tall guy like you will have a pretty good wingspan. Hope you don’t crack your elbows. 🍀

The “school bus “ by itself has a GVW. The rule, I think, is that if there is no posted Combination rating, then the GVW is it. So, is it normal for one of your builds to still leave the extra 7,000 - 10,000 lbs needed for a trailer and its contents (a small car). And, is it astronomically difficult to get a state licensing office to tell how much beefing up must happen for them to make, for instance, a 30,000 GVR also show a GCV of maybe 35,000 or 38,000? Or do they not really require the change, due to it NOT any longer being a commercial vehicle?

Do you place your mattress directly on to that platform? If so, what do you do to maintain breathability under the mattress? Mold can still grow under a mattress without there being some air movement... which is why box-springs are fabric and beds that do not have box-springs use slats. Some folks get around that by rotating their mattresses (and futons) every once in a while. But that seems like a challenge in a small space.

@deleted: 4.44 is a good ratio for a 3060 which is double overdrive, 4 is direct, 5 is overdrive, 6 is double overdrive. You could certainly go lower with a larger engine or a lighter vehicle or a single overdrive or direct trans. The tire diameter, top transmission ratio, weight-height and desired speed all play into the axle ratio choice. Online calculators will pop out the engine speed with different setups. Raising a roof alone is the only way I'd attempt it. More than one person would get in the way. Lifted plenty of houses, barns and other structures, a bus roof is more flexible so much easier. I'd leave front or back attached but flexible (cut through the structure, leave sheet metal, or plywood gusset), lift the whole length maintaining the roof straight but pivoting, not level. Temporarily secure the high end, a sheet of plywood would work fine, then lift the low end. A carpenter would use lengthwise bottom plate and top plate and kicker studs to lift like this, an X frame secured on one side to the floor and roof, and lifted with ratchet straps would work well also. This is a conceptual explanation of one way to lift a roof, not a complete explanation. Don't do this if you don't understand how and why it would fail.
