The lyrics & music for this piece are gorgeous….! I first became familiar with The Lost Chord watching & hearing Myron Floren play it on the accordion for the Lawrence Welk 1979 Easter show. Just beautiful, especially when it crescendos up to the high F at the last Great Amen!

As a 73 year old English man can i say how nice it was to hear this. This is the sort of music that my parents would have loved and it is only now in my later years that i am coming to appreciate the rich sounds that a brass band can achieve.

What a superb arrangement of what for so long had been deridedly considered an exemplar of Victorian sentimentality. If we are to approach music on its own terms - as we are encouraged to do with contemporary music - then maybe we should do the same with music of the past, even "unfashionable" music. I have long loved this piece and this arrangement brought me to tears.

That's what you call a good arrangement, beautifully realised. Elevates the piece...I thought I would miss a voice..but no.

A magnificent performance. Music may get greater than this but it doesn't get much better.

This is the earliest recording of music known to exist in 1888 a recording of Arthur Sullivan's song 'The Lost Chord' was etched onto a phonograph cylinder. Sullivan was astounded at this new technology.

Seated one day at the organ I was weary and ill at ease And my fingers wandered idly Over the noisy keys I know not what I was playing Or what I was dreaming then; But I struck one chord of music Like the sound of a great Amen Like the sound of a great Amen It flooded the crimson twilight Like the close of an angel's psalm And it lay on my fevered spirit With a touch of infinite calm It quieted pain and sorrow Like love overcoming strife; It seemed the harmonious echo From our discordant life It linked all perplexèd meanings Into one perfect peace And trembled away into silence As if it were loth to cease I have sought, but I seek it vainly That one lost chord divine Which came from the soul of the organ And entered into mine It may be that death's bright angel Will speak in that chord again It may be that only in Heav'n I shall hear that grand Amen

A great piece. Too bad not many performances without a pipe organ. Also ....how NOT to play a trumpet. The one player, third from the back ....the fingering is so repulsive. Ridiculous that he does this. Has no one said anything to him? He better be a damn good player. If I was the either the lead trumpet or conductor, I would have a private chat with him ....if you can't learn to control your fingering ...it was nice knowing you.

Good music, but in my opinion it is played a little bit too fast!
