Nick G thanks Nick, I love doing stuff like that. There is actually a better video that shows how this build ended, if you are interested. It is called "Every Step of My V8 S-10 Budget Build by Chud327" check it out and leave me another comment. There are also several burnouts with this truck on here. Anyways, thanks for watching, commenting, and especially for the 1,000,000 vote!

Very well done. Pretty much every important step is on here. Took me and a buddy two day's when we were younger to figure out the holes in the frame for the motor mounts. Wish we had this back then
@chud32710 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean, on my old Blazer project, my first time I took the mounts off of the frame to realize that I need them. I had to put them right back on. If you go to my channel there is a video based on this one, but the step have been shortened and it shows more of the end of the project, please check it out and leave me some feedback. "Every Step of my S-10 Budget Build by Chud327" Thanks for the comment!

I didn't get a chance to do a real burnout on the highway, but as for the blocks in the yard, no hopping issues at all. I did have traction bars on before the lowering, but after the lowering, still no hope. I am going to check out that clip right now!
@chud3278 жыл бұрын
I had tractions bars before lowering, but even after taking them off, I don't remember any wheel hop at all. Your truck sound mean. That was yours that tore out the rear end?
@ethanbrazee44888 жыл бұрын
Ok my s10 not lowered or rear suspension modified in any way so that's probably my issue. Oh I get a staggering 25mpg on the highway & 16 around town & she's driven hard! It is running somewhat lean though....
@ethanbrazee44888 жыл бұрын
Ya I didn't even fully floor it & it died after a snappy shift from 2nd to third gear. My new rear end is a posi 7.625 inch out of a camaro I believe. 3.42s, my secret to mpgs! 350 doesn't even know it's moving anything!

Good to see other V8 S10 fanatics here. I'm building a 383 Stroker for my lil guy right now. Gunna be running some World Products S2 heads, and a 700R4 trans with a Ford 9" rear end. Once I start getting anywhere with the truck itself I'll post videos.
@chud3279 жыл бұрын
Brett Lynch I've been wanting a 383 ever since I first heard of them 20 something years ago. i'll be waiting to see your videos, that sounds like on mean description. I almost bought my next s10 project last week, but someone beat me to it...
@baronvoncable9 жыл бұрын
chud327 A good deal with a little box body isn't too hard to find! I picked my rolling body up for $200. Thinking of tearing down the front-end once I get the long block assembled. I'll post up a video once that happens.
@chud3279 жыл бұрын
I had two that I was looking at last week. Both had V8's that had been removed. One just needed an engine and the other needed an engine and transmission. They would have been quick and easy builds, but they went too fast. My last S-10 project was two bodies and some other parts for $200. I caught a guy leaving town that could take his junk with him... I need more deal like that. Then after taking the parts I needed, I sold the body I didn't go with for $200. I have had probably 15 of the S-10 trucks and Blazers, but only 3 had V8's.

Just checked out your vid to get a few ideas for the '83 S10 I'm getting from a friend of mine, it's the "Tahoe" trim level. Already has bucket seats, the 2.8 has a bad freeze plug, but that's coming out anyway. My budget won't be near as low as yours, hell I'll probably be in it 2 grand when I'm done. Cool build, true rat rod, I'm not sure where I'm going to source the 350 I want to stuff in the S10, but I might know where I can get a Vortec 5.3 cheap enough...

I'm still working on replacing the 4.3 vortec with a carbureted 350 in my 98 s10. I'm working slowly but surely haha and I hope to have it running by the end of this week. The 350 bolted up perfectly to my transmission, but my question is will I have any problems with the transmission working fine or will I have trouble. I believe it's the 4l60. Thanks for the help!
@chud3278 жыл бұрын
+Roofingandsons I have never dealt with a 4l60, I guess if you leave it hooked up it might work. You will have to test it once it is running or ask someone that knows what they are talking about. I used to have a'98, I was one of my favorite S-10 that I have owned... I want to see a burnout when you are finished.
@angiesmith91966 жыл бұрын
The 4l60 is computer controlled and as far as i know there is only two companies that make standalone computers. One is GM for 1200$ the other is TCI for arou d 650$. 700r4s are an exact swap its just a manually controlled version of the 4l60

To Lauren Siemens about the Honda fan - their is no reply button, so I guess you get no answer. I want to put it on a thermostat eventually, but to start with I might just put it on a switch. So far I've never had to use it, but I've never had it in stop and go traffic during August either. I think one electric fan will be sufficient with the manual fan, but I could always go back a add another. I can't remember the exact Honda year, but I would guess about a 1998ish... Do you have an S10 project on here?
@laurensiemens143610 жыл бұрын
no I do not have a project on here, but I do have a v8 s10 a blue truck, I wish it were a short box but its getting slim pickings out there for s10s in my neck of the woods. @laurensiemens143610 жыл бұрын
I had electric fans on mine and I hated them, so I took them off and put an engine driven fan on, made a big difference
@chud32710 жыл бұрын
I am glad that you learned a lot. Believe me, I learned a bunch by doing it. And this is my 2nd time putting a V8 in an s10. I like the electric fan as a back up, just in case you need it. My 4x4 Blazer V8 project had no room for a manual fan, it had dual electric and I was never satisfied with them. It is on here, have you seen it? And thanks for the comment.
@wvresident70049 жыл бұрын
chud327 I have a dual fan setup from a 02 concord on my 00 s10 4.3 180 thermo 185 switch and it works just fine. These stock concord fans fit right on when the mounting tabs are cut off. It's really over kill for the 4.3. I plan to have the same setup on my 94 s10 when I install my 350.

Hey chud, Super nice video. Looks like you've got this s10 v8 swap down. I have a question if you don't mind??? Going to swap a carb'd 350/350 into a 90 blazer that came with a 4.3 tbi. Do I have to keep the computer and harness?? Really don't want to deal with it. Thanks
@chud3279 жыл бұрын
+jabari82 I cut most of the unnecessary stuff out of my 91 Blazer V8 swap. If it has a carb you don't need the computer. You just run a hot wire from the key to your distributor and starter. I also ran a one wire alternator. I had my gauges still working too. I have videos of it running and a slide show of that build. I reply in a few minutes with that link that you can watch just for the fun of it.

+matttttttttt6 buy the v8 conversion mounts and use the stock crossmember for the trans. Thanks for watching.
@paulmesser63999 жыл бұрын
you didn't haft to change the transfer case? or a different rear axel? or move/modify the cross member? I could be over thinking the process considering this is my first engine swap. the engine is bored 30 over and I plan on putting it to the floor a time or 2 so I'd like for it to be sturdy. and I couldn't find the slide show of your blazer buddy.
@chud3279 жыл бұрын
+Paul Messer Unfortunately, your truck has the 2.8 so your transmission will have to be change and I don't know about the transfer case. I would assume you would get a different transmission that comes with the correct transfer case. As for mine, it came stock with a 4.3 and I did have to change the transmission or anything else behind it. If you engine makes enough power you may want to go ahead an upgrade to full size running gear. Then it should be sturdy enough for you to floor it. Here is my Blazer build - kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpyYe6ecbtyikLM I also have videos of it in the mud - here is one of them - kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2rQlXl_r5VjkNU&feature=iv&src_vid=8k5Jtf9woZQ&annotation_id=annotation_934534 . After reading the comment section ( laughing hysterically) I came to the conclusion that most of you "you tube mechanics" should actually stay away from cars. Yes, this is actually an extremely easy engine swap, I've done six now. Some of the questions are absolutely ridiculous. Will a C-10 rear end fit in my S-10 ? seriously ? Can you not tell by a quick glance, in the dark, with an eye infection that the C-10 is at least a foot wider ? My other favorite, Will a V8 bolt up to my original 4 cyl transmission ? Even if it did do you really think it would work ? Come on people, let's use some common sense. If your asking questions like " will my fuel gauge still read correctly ?" do yourself a favor and don't even attempt doing something like this. Or better yet, go ahead and do it, but make a video so we can all have a good laugh.
@chud3277 жыл бұрын
Yes, there are a bunch of silly questions. The ones that ask those questions would be better off buying one already built or pay some one to do the work. I would like to see the videos of their attempts to put that C10 rear in the S-10. Thanks for watching and for the comment.

chud327 hey I'm doing a v8 s10 build rite now and I was wondering what rear end you used. And how you kept the same lug pattern with the same wheels. Awesome build.
@chud3279 жыл бұрын
Masta13100 I found a stock S-10 rear end that some one had added a locker to. It was on Craigslist for $250, but the guy took $150 for it. It had a better gear ratio for me and the locker was already installed. Those richmond lockers go for $400 - $500. The lug pattern was the same since the rear came from under an S-10. Thanks for the questions are you planning an S-10 rear swap or locker addition?
@Masta131009 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the response chud327 I was going to pull the rear end from my totalled c10 and put a locker in it to use in the s10. But now I might just buy a spool for the s10 differential. I just don't want to have to change my cragar ss wheels haha
@chud3279 жыл бұрын
the cragar SS wheels have unilug oval hole that I really love. My first car, 1969 Camaro, hat cragar SS on it. However, I don't think they will work for a chevy truck pattern. I had a Ford 9" in my Camaro and the Cragars fit the Chevy and the Ford patterns. More company should build multi use products. You can sell the C-10 rear for some spool money.
@Masta131009 жыл бұрын
yeah i probably will. everything waiting on a guy to appraise the truck and blah blah so i can start tearing it apart and begin the build. im getting parts together now. im looking into getting a motor swap kit from jegs for around 1,000. what did you use? kuz im on a budget aswell haha. thanx for the replys
@chud3279 жыл бұрын
For the motor swap part, I was given a Blazer that once had a V8. The engine and trans had been pulled but everything else was still there. I did buy a radiator, but I had purchased it years ago for a different S-10 V8 swap and did us it. I already had the stall. The headers were off of Craigslist for $20! The lockered rear end was from Craigslist for $150. Jegs will probably be a good resource, had you check summitracing.com and jagsthatrun.com for price comparisons? You have got to be on a budget or these things could get really expensive...

@adammcintosh56710 жыл бұрын
You can actually move the motor forward a few inches use a long tail 350 or 700r4 trans both same length. Wont have to beat firewall in for hei distributor and use same drive shaft. Thats how i did my 91 s10 blazer but i run dual electric fans in front of radiator plus i run all my serpentine setup from the 4.3 it all bolts right to a sbc motor or bbc motor and also still run ac. 700r4 is good but i broke 4 of them now running a fullbbuilt 350 turbo trans
@chud32710 жыл бұрын
I did not move mine forward, I wanted to use a mechanical fan with an electric as a backup. I would think you would just find a shorter driveshaft, but there is more than one way to skin a cat. (catfish) I could appreciate having more room for the HEI. When I did my Blazer V8, just like you said, all the serpentine system bolts right up. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpyYe6ecbtyikLM I also have a more up to date video shoestring build - kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqacm6WKe7iLgac and a burnout / locker test video kzbin.info/www/bejne/en_Pm36joKeGpNU . I wanted to know how hard was it to get hook up the fuel line and all the gages and wires? I'm doing my build In the summer for my first truck
@chud3277 жыл бұрын
The fuel was easiest of the three. As for the wiring, I ran a wire to the distributor and one to the starter, then I cut about a 1000 others off. The gauges weren't to bad either, I just did one at a time. On a Blazer I did first, I had all the stock in dash gauges working, that was sweet. Good luck with your build and thanks for watching.

I'm doing a 350/700r4 swap on my '84 s10 Durango. It was originally carbureted 2.8/automatic. I already have the plates for the engine, headers, etc. Just curious, did you take the transmission crossmember out when you dropped the engine/trans in? Seems like it would be rather tight, but then again everything about this swap is.

That is a great question. It depends on what engine / trans is in the truck. If your truck has a 4.3, it will bolt to a small block or big block form the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's... If you truck has a 2.2 or 2.5, you will need to find a different transmission. Are you getting ready to do a V8 swap? What size engine is in your truck? Thanks for watching and for the comment.

@chud3276 жыл бұрын
I have done a 2wd and a 4 wd and I can't say that one was more difficult than the other. My 4x4 already had a lift and I had to get special headers because of the lift. I think none lifted would have beed easier. I did have to get a special oil pan for the 4X4 that the 2wd did not need. I would not hesitate on swapping a 4x4 again. Are you going to have it function as a 4x4 still? I have some videos of my 4X4 V8 S-10 on here if you are interested. Good luck, thanks for watching, and let me know if other questions pop up.

chud327 I just don't know can you convert 4x4 to 2x4.. I see you can and you can't online, can't get a definite answer... My buddy said he knew a guy who did it to a k5 blazer, thought he could just take out front cv joint axles and ride with open hole where splinned axle use to go in but quickly found out the nut on end of axle holds the bearings inside the hub so he ended up cutting the axles at the knuckle so he could keep the axle piece thru the hub with nut on end to hold everything together if that makes sense..
@allthingssilver76356 жыл бұрын
chud327 I see some comments of ppl saying you can convert from 4x4 to 2x4 and some ppl saying its a pain and your better off just buying a 2x4 truck.. Only thing is I've been looking a s10 body for a year in good condition and they are either tore up or in good shape but nobody ever has a title to it. So I finally found a body in great shape, good paint, not a single dent on the truck for $400.. So if I can't convert it to 2x4 I'm thinking I may have to 180 my ultimate plan and just make it a lifted 4x4 truck just so I Don't miss out on this good deal of a nice s10 body for so cheap.. Or maybe I'm just getting impatient and need to hold off and keep searching for a 2WD. Idk...
@chud3276 жыл бұрын

You may have to buy new ones from summitracing.com, jegs.com, jagsthatrun.com, or from a speed shop. As for the radiator, I did use one from an 80 something firebird. I did nothing to the firewall and it was a turbo 350. Thanks for watching.

@@chud327 ok thanks what motor was in it orginally. What motor mounts headers oil pan and radiator did you run
@chud3274 жыл бұрын
@@bradleydunford725 Just seeing your question, it came with a 2.5. I got V8 mounts from a friend, don't know where they came from. Headers were off of facebook marketplace or craigslist. Oil pan was stock and the radiator came out of a 90"s firebird. I hope this helps.

junk yard tires? did you even get them balanced? nothing says bad ass like a cheap ride where all corners were cut

I'm in the middle of a v8 swap in my 93 s10. I was wondering if my stock 2wd diff will be able to handle the v8
@chud3276 жыл бұрын
I think it will, I have never had any troubles with stock. However, I never did much else than a V8 swap. I have found the rear end of the truck is light and spins super easy. If you start putting on slicks, pro-streeting it, high stalls, etc., then you might need a beefier rear. I would say use what you got until it breaks. Thanks for watching and good luck on the build.

chud327 thank you. And also will my v6 bell housing match up to the v8 or will I need a different bell housing
@chud3276 жыл бұрын
Wow, I love quick replies. It depends, if you have the 4.3, then yes the bell housing will bolt right up. If you have the 2.5, you will need to find some thing different. Are you running a manual trans?
@FRS.Skylar6 жыл бұрын
chud327 I had the 2.8 v6 and yes I'm running a manual
@chud3276 жыл бұрын
I meant 2.8, you are going to have to find a new transmission. But the good news is, this would be a great time to get you a 6 speed to put behind the V8, or at least, that is what I would want to do...

Chud327 what transmission did you use if you dont mind me asking?
@chud3279 жыл бұрын
Jeff Houser It was not my first choice, but I had an old turbo350 laying around in the garage. I like a 350, it was free, and I is now out of my way. It was a win, win, win... Thanks for asking, I love answering comments, and thanks for watching.

I have a 99 s10 with a 2.2...can I use the stock 5peed transmission with a 350 swap?
@chud3278 жыл бұрын
No. you will needed another transmission. The 2.2's will not bolt up to the V8's.
@billyrussell69218 жыл бұрын
Oh ok is there a standard transmission that will?
@chud3278 жыл бұрын
As long as it will bolt up to a V8 it should be fine. You may have a little issue lining up where the shifter comes through the floor. There is probably one that line up great, but you will have to research that for your self. I have done one before, but I was about to use the stock 4.3 trans. Thanks and let me know if you have any more question.

I have a blazer 92 4x4 with q v6 Can I put the v8 and use the same transmission ? Awnser fast please
@chud3279 жыл бұрын
Juan De la cruz Is this fast enough? If it is a 4.3 you can use your original transmission. I am not sure what a q v6 is. Now it it is a 2.3 V6, you are going to need a different transmission. What V6 does your 92 have, I am guessing a 4.3. Now you answer fast please.

did you make a box for the shifter or buy one?
@chud32710 жыл бұрын
ericopa2 That box is the console out of a S-10 Blazer. I put the plywood in it that the shifter is bolted to. I thought about painting it and maybe a cup holder, but I probably will not get around to it... Thanks for the question? Keep them coming.
@ericopa210 жыл бұрын
the console between the seats and you removed the lid. how did you do that? Thanks for the info
@chud32710 жыл бұрын
Not the in between the seats console, that went in the duster. There was another, smaller one infant of that one. It was about where the 4x4 shifter would go, but was in a 2wd. Maybe a set of cupholders were in it...

I have a 91 blazer that I got cheep off cragslist and I'm gonna do somthing very similar to what you did here. But I'm wondering (maybe I missed it) did you have to do anything special with the pan? Some say you have to modify it or get a custom one. What do you say?
@chud32710 жыл бұрын
Anthony Whitehead if you have 2 wheel drive Blazer, a stock pan should slide right in. I had a 4X4 Blazer that had a body lift, I had to locate a custom pan for it, that video is also on my channel. I have another video just like this one, but it is more complete and shows how the project ended. It is called "every step of my v8 s10 budget build by chud327" in case you are interested. Feel free to ask all other question on you build. Thanks for the comment.

@chud327 im gonna start one on a 89 4×4 s10 blazer what can stay and what can go? cause im on a 400 dollar budget
@chud3279 жыл бұрын
+Justin Coronado If the stock engine is a 4.3, then the trans can stay. If it is good. If you keep your trans, and the shifter, drive shaft, speedometer cable will all work. If you don't have a 4.3 then all those will have to be changed. Your crossmember should work. You will need motor mounts, radiator, exhaust manifolds or headers, exhaust system, wiring, and the V8 itself. Oh yea, on the 4X4, you are probably going to need a custom oil pan. Does yours have a lift kit by chance? Here is a slide show of you a 4X4 V8 that I did a few years ago: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpyYe6ecbtyikLM I hope this helps and you may need to do a fund raiser to boost the $400 a little.
