As someone who's got a friend with all crazy exes, except one who's only semi crazy, I can positively tell you it's a selection issue. He knew they were crazy, and wasnt planning long term to begin with, so sometimes, it's not actually a problematic reason, but a red flag nonetheless, just not the one I believe you're describing. Most of the time, people leading with having had crazy exes unprompted doesnt realize it's an issue or is saying so hyperbolically. Which abusers and fuckboys alike would absolutely know.
