Yes. The bird is a pooh, but what about a pointed stick. they will know you mean business then. No need for distortion on a bass. If you hear "Justice for All" with the real bass sound, it will blow your mind. Bass is critical, I like to point out "Dream Theatre" type bass.

@@scottreynolds5455 I have always preferred a cleaner tone on my rig, but I am open to something made for bass. Rick Beato played a bass with distortion on it ( I don't remember the pedal name) and it rocked. If you can find it. It's worth looking at.

Turning down the LF gain and blending with a DI would make for a monstrous bass tone.

If you had a clean/DI blend, you wouldn't need to turn down the LF gain.

@@Dlognar It's all subjective. Turning down the LF gain will give you more articulation and less mud. The DI will take care of the clean low end.

@@RyvenProductions That's my point, both turning down the LF gain and blending in clean/DI accomplish the same goal of improving low end articulation. Why would you need to do both? I get they don't do it the same way and there might be reasons why you'd choose one or decide that his tone is too fuzzy and you should do both, so sure there's some taste there, but the taste point could go the other way to say that someone's taste may not want either a clean blended signal nor less gain. My point is that, simply, both of those things in your recommendation accomplishes the same goal so it seems redundant to say to do both.

@@Dlognar Until I get my hands on a Chug pedal, I am just assuming. I have done the exact same thing with a Purple Revv G3. And at the end of the day, I high passed most of the low end out of the G3 track. And of course, it would all depend on the mix and the other elements of the song. Can I safely assume that you don't have a Chug pedal? We should probably stop commenting until we get one and experiment.

I know it sounds counterintuitive, but generally on bass you don't want a lot of lo frequency gain. Distorting just the overtones gives you a heavy enough distortion and it retains the clarity of the low frequencies. Gives you the perfect balance of super heavy distortion and a beefy low end.

I just commented on the CHUG demo that I would love to see a Bass Guitar on it. lol. Has potential, but need a bass-player to do the pedal setup. Lower Gain, especially on bass-gain knob, hoping to hear full bottom end come through. Not easy to do on a tenor-guitar pedal. Love it on guitar though!

On the lows you only want a tiny bit of saturation. Like a driven tube amp. But you want compression. On the mids and highs you can add as much distortion as you want. That way you let the walls shake, while still sounding like a distorted guitar but without the farty and mushyness of a distorted low end.

Multiband distortion = Good Metal Bass Tone. Low frequency gets too muddy in my opinion if it gets distorted. So everything where u can distort mids and highs, while keeping the lows clean makes everything fucking great 🤷‍♂️

It's funny, he's not a bassist but I used his bass mixing technique (oooooooold video of his from back before he would even go on camera or talk...lol) for YEARS. lol All the way up until I found the FabFilter Saturn plugin which basically does exactly what he was doing but with a single track and a single plugin. I think this rig should be featured on the beginning song of next weeks Sunday with Ola show! It reminds me a bit of the band GODFLESH. If you don't know who they are Ola, then get ready for some of the bleakest and heaviest metal ever made. Any guitar player can be a bass player with some time and a little more effort because of the thickness of the strings.
