I always thought it was a reference to Picross 3D, a DS puzzle game where you break blocks according to numbers on them to reveal various shapes. One of them is a dog that very closely resembles the statue you make in that stage. Either that, or the English localization team included it as a reference. Another Splatling? This one at least is a returning weapon, but we've been seeing a lot of this class lately. I guess they wanted to develop it further, but it is strange that they are group all together here at the end. When the puzzle is so large it requires a checkpoint. Eh, at least the boxes you need to break are telegraphed. Imagine if they weren't. Even the charaters in game are lampshading how long this puzzle is. These chat logs keep getting batter. An imbedded track that provides some backstory and character development? Marina calling Pearl a munchkin and Pearl calling herself "MC Danger Noodle?" Whatever the heck ol' Craig is doing? The banter is so wholsome, I love it. They really went above and beyond to improve Splatoon's storytelling, and I hope stuff like this returns in Splatoon 3. Inkjet boss? They really mixed these fights up, didn't they? Emile even brings up the odd unlocking order. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks it's weird.

A good Hydra Splatling can be very terrifying on certain maps. If it gets into position and you don't have a reliable way to get rid of it, that Hydra's staying there on its perch to annihilate you from a distance.

Ah yes matchmaster station. As one of the people who unfortunately chose to do every station with every weapon, carving out the boxes with the rapid blaster is one of the slowest, yet most stressful processes in any game I've ever played.

Back to back stages that are incredibly challenging, except when they aren't. However their difficulty is still different. Girl Power is rough until you learn the pattern. Matchmaker is hard when you use anything that isn't the Squeezer. The latter is a PAIN with both the Rapid Blaster Pro and the Splat Charger. The Rapid obviously makes it much harder bc of the blast radius screwing you over. However the Charger can also be a pain thanks to the fact full charges can pierce through an orange box a break a regular one, however partial charges are still enough to break the orange boxes in one go, so don't ever fire a full charge.

So, let’s talk about the senpai thing. In Japan, a senpai is usually used to refer to someone who you look up to, sorta like a mentor. The text for Pearl and Marina in Japanese seems to point towards them having a senpai-kōhai relationship, meaning mentor-mentee relationship, more than them having a romantic relationship. I just had an extremely vivid dream and had to share before I lost it: In dream-world, Splat2 had challenges for scanning amiibos like Splat1 did. If you scanned Pearl or Marina, they became the semi-final boss of Octo Expansion (or at least a really hard boss that was a one-on-one clam blitz). If you beat both their challenges, you unlocked them singing Kalamari Incantation with aspects of Fresh Start incorporated, but whereas the Squid Sister's version was about forgiveness, theirs was about personal accountability and the desire to do better and make up for what they did. I wish I could music because I would ABSOLUTELY arrange the song if I knew how, but as is I might still draw a few scenes from the boss fight idea

you know... i just thought of this right now as im rewatching this but i dont think the Hydra Splatling is a fire hydrant as its name would suggest. given the sounds it makes while charging, i am reminded of a hydraulic air compressor with its motor idling(beginning the charge/stage one charge), spool up as it compresses air(stage 2 charge), and finally the compressors motor running to keep things compressed. actually, everything about the main weapon itself is akin to an air compressor in terms of design and the hydra's sound profile.

Those ink refillers remind me; the speedrun for this station is well worth checking out. I say this before, but Octo Expansion is definitely the real story mode of Splatoon 2 where the relationship between Inklings and Octarians after many years have began to change for the better and that was due to the events of Splatoon 1's story mode. The Squid Sister's first song was Calamari Inkantation while Off the Hook's first song was Ebb and Flow. Even then, Octo Canyon story mode is a way for acclimating those new to Splatoon.

I am a Hydra main and I wanna give some additional tips! Hydra is a lot better at being aggressive that you'd think and what you said in the video! If you treat it like a H3 Nozzlenose in high pressure situations it has longer range that even a splattershot pro, so it can deal with shooters fairly well if you get good accuracy with it, I use this a lot in ways people do not expect and it leads to a Hydra game where I can do things like flank with the danager level of the Hydra at full charge. Now these tactics are high skill floor and I do recommend being more of a scope charger style play on average, but the Hydra is amazing in terms of DPS even while it is still a 4 shot kill on partial charge. Additionally hydra at full charge can be used to shoot over walls if you get good enough, damage fall off usually makes it a 4 or 5 shot kill, but if you learn how to, it can really become oppressive to chargers if you master that. Tl;dr: Learn the timing of the minimum charge you need to splat someone and learn how to do high charge dropping shots, both techniques greatly expand what you can do with this bad boy! Oh and these techniques basically make the vanilla kit worse somehow as if you learn them, then you realize how niche splash down and auto bomb really are on hydra :P

As someone got to S rank splat zone with the custom. I just wanna say that ink mine is a very effective for counterink Tenta missiles. You basicly place one (or two) on your sniping nest. So that after the missiles coat the ground the mine goes afterwards. Letting you walk in back to position without having to waste the charge you've built up in the interum.

@@Durygathn It's 100% the Flingza Roller since Emile mentioned in the 2nd match in this episode that tomorrow's weapon is one he skipped over, and the only weapon he's skipped over recently is the Flingza Roller (which is unlocked at level 24). H3 Nozzelnose and the Clash Blaster are both unlocked after or at the same time as the Hydra Splatling, so there's no other weapon it could be.

Man, I remember going into a splatzone match with the Custom Hydra on Mako Mart, where everyone had close range weapons that couldn’t reach me, and DECIMATING the other team. No one could figure out how to counter me, and I could keep my perch defended with the ink mine and my own range. I fell in love with the weapon just then, I genuinely think the custom hydra is one of the best support weapons in Splatoon 2, and I super hope the trend continues with Splatoon 3

I find the best way to make use of autobomb is to have a couple subs of ink recovery up and to chuck em constantly around enemies while swimming to take advantage of the faster recovery, throw infront, in back, above, sometimes a player will set one off and get their ally splatted by accident. stacking sub saver to barrage them at once is pointless when instead you can make it so they have to constantly worry about them. In a game with no team deathmatch wasting your opponents time is just as valuble as sending them back to spawn. Though if it returns in splatoon 3 it could do with some buffs, either a much faster explosion across the board or a near instant explosion if its gone into walking mode.

Hydra Splatling!!! My favorite!!!!! A few tips I personally feel, though not as a professional, is that autobombs is definitely more of an investigation tool for finding foes, not just when moving ahead, and not to view the splashdown much as an offensive weapon, but almost exclusively as a free reload. I will say that I also recommend this weapon for Clam Blitz as it works as a great defense weapon. A few fun facts about the Hydra: it was originally only 30 per hit with an unfinished charge and 35 with (I actually didn't know about this quirk until it was buffed, despite it already being my main since Splat1); that same update also buffed ink mines, allowing it to do more damage, increase range, and explode the oldest mine when a third is placed down.

Yeyeye, my main weapon. Me and my girl hydra go way back. I could use the custom variant too, but i think i lack a team support oriented mentality, so i just stuck with the vanilla kit. I like catching people offguard with the splashdown, and the auto bombs can work, once in a blue moon. But yeah, its a great weapon. It showcases the best qualities in a splatling i feel, which is range and firepower. Its also why i dont like the minis, cause they cut down on those to make it try to be like a discount splattershot. They even share the same playstyle and have somewhat similair sets. Ballpoints are sorta fine to me, cause they still have that long range mode. I feel like, when you decide to main a splatling, you have to go all in on those qualties i mentioned, really get the most of that class. Great video as always chugga, kinda sucks i didnt catch you in matches. Maybe some other time.

Oh, yeah another thing i forgot to mention. When you try to main this, or any other statue/anchor weapon like this, make sure you die the least out of your teammates, so that you can give them a reliable point of super jump for them. Make sure your rushdown players get in the action as fast as possible, so that you can sit back and watch for any sneaky scamper trying to flank the team from behind or painting any turf while your team isnt looking. Checking your map every now and then can help you in this too, while also helping getting a more acute understanding of your surroundings Also hydras range is huge, use it to your advantage You wouldnt believe the kinda shit you can snipe with this

I couldn't actually beat Matchmaster Station in one go, and during my walkthrough I didn't know you were supposed to hit the red boxes instead of the light ones. That always have me confused there for a little bit. I blew up the fee to used Autopass just so I can decrease to increase more Fee's. Fun fact about the Hydra Splatling. I got into using that based type of weapon during rank mode, and I have the one with an auto bomb, and splashdown. One of the best machine gun type of weapon, and so much fun to used in Splatoon 2. I look forward to hearing more about your next new sub weapon on the next video.

I played the Hydra Splatling in Splatoon 3 at PAX today and it still did a good job of tearing sh*t up. The default version now has BOOYAH BOMB! It’s way better of a special to supplement it than Splashdown. It still has Autobombs, but the weapon is more of a monster.

I find that all splatling weapons struggle against chargers, as they need to land 4 shots most of the time compared to the chargers' one. The Autobomb can be used more often than Ink Armor as an assistance to fighting those dangerous weapons. Hench, I run Ink Recovery Up as I use my bomb more often than most probably would, and Sub Power Up so I don't have to get too close to frontliners to pressure the backliners.
