Today in splatoon 3, I was getting wrecked by a splatana stamper, who was pretty good with it. So I went hardcore sicko mode in my gamer position and wrecked them back, with my Aerospray. Growing Turtle gang 🐢

Too bad it's one-sided when folks try to start beef. I literally do not care. You are simply there in my line of sight at the wrong time. You might get splatted, but probably not. Unless you are being a particularly annoying nuisance, i have no interest in hunting specific players. Sometimes I leave a pool and go back in to refresh it if I start running into the same people that are kicking my ass over and over and over (this has happened a couple of times despite not queuing up the following games with them)

You never saw yourself armour-less, which means you've also never seen yourself shirtless, which is actually possible in this game, but it is insanely complicated and difficult to pull off. You can stand around shirtless if you die, respawn and then "loose your armour" before your initial set f armour has fully regenerated. I managed to pull this off in Cephalopod HQ on the pit with the washer by jumping off, respawning by the washer and then letting it hurt me. My character then goes on shirtless until the armour respawns properly. You can find images of the level finish screen with a shirtless inkling on Google, but nobody has explained it. A lot of people seem to think it's a glitch, but I think it is intentional because the female inklings have a two-piece on underneath instead, which is not a design detail they would have included if it wasn't intentional.

I think it's as simple as falling into water and then getting hurt after. Like you said, it works in the washer section of Cephalon HQ, but can be done inside levels with water such as Welcome to Octopia and Octoling Strike, to name a few.

Funny trick that i've seen a 2800 XP undercover player do. Walk right up to the opponent at close as you can and when your shield breaks, use splashdown. When you do, you'll be directly above them and since you can't aim directly up in this game, you'll be safe, and because you're so close to them, they likely wont be able to escape your splashdown.

Tip for Cephalopods using the Kensa Undercover. Any kills from teammates when under the effects of your ink armor will count as assists. That means you have a method of constantly regenerating your shield instantly

I remember when the Undercover Brella was added to the game I could see it's potential but had a real hard time trying to use it myself. It wasn't until the Sorella version was added that it actually clicked with me. That remains my favourite brella to use although I do like the Kensa a fair amount as well. (For the record, the main reason why the Sorella is my favourite is that I'm a big fan of Splat Bombs.) 6:52 -- Funnily enough, when Masae was streaming this the other day I made a joke in chat about this quote ("My evil lair could do with some pizzas") and Masae admitted that she almost read out pizazz as pizzas.

i am a tentabrella fan, and it came mostly from learning how powerful well utilized squid beacons are. Ive lost games to teams who dont use them, and ive won games exclusively because of the anchor points my team can use them as. Tentabrella is a backline, so it is a perfect weapon to understand key anchor points, and the shield (when used properly) provides enough defense to make up for the lack of offensive sub weapon. I mostly use it in splatzones, since tower is easy to surround, i hate clam blitz in solo cue, and i tend to play a slayer in rainmaker.

6:34 fun fact! On stage 12 (and I think, like, one more?) If you got the rare occurrence of your Inkling losing his shirt and shoes upon armor break (female Inkling only loses her shoes) and clear the stage in that state, your Inkling will still be missing his shirt. Woo! We're finally getting to my main in this game! It has PLENTY of weaknesses, sure, but that fragile shield is like an extra life that can mean the difference between winning or losing a confrontation. It's the fact that you can do offense AND defense at the same time that really puts the pressure on foes! What I also like is that the Undercover Brella has its uses in plenty of ranked modes. The good ink coverage, ink mines, and splashdown of the base brella can take control of Splat Zones, you can defend yourself and your buddies on Tower Control, the quick speed makes it easy to make a path for the Rainmaker, and if you wanna play in Clam Blitz? Sorella Brella time. And the Kensa Undercover Brella? Just TRY and splat me when I'm ducking and weaving, throwing torpedoes, got my armor, and have my shield up. You may not be getting a lot of solo splats with this weapon, and that's ok! You're there to be a support and annoy the other team away from the objective.

One thing to add about how Splatoon 2 handles online: The game picks one of the players to act as a "host", so instead of 8-10 connections going between each other (10 if you made a lobby with spectators) the game will have 1 player handle all communications between everybody, if that players disconects in turf war or ranked, the game will try and get another player to become "host". In player lobbies, whoever made the lobby is the one handling everything. I used to do weekly lobbies on a discord and I knew my connection could handle almost everybody in there no problem.

That makes more sense. Having 8 people on P2Ping between with other one sounded like a disaster. Hopefully for Splatoon 3 they invest a little bit more and have dedicated servers... The P2P should still be kept in game though for private matches and for the future when servers go down.

Les go a LAN adaptor plug, its awesome. Ok undercover I have a LOT of thoughts on. Vanilla undercover aka Vunder: The kit just doesn't work, I'll talk about what I think the optimal playstyle the devs wanted it to be was with Sunder and it tried but its just arguably the worst weapon without map control in the game, no poke, no damage, weak special. Pain. Sorella Undercover aka Sunder: This kit I think fits exactly what the undercover should be to a T. A weird annoying stalling but fast weapon, a weird hybrid of Inkbrush nouveau and tenta brella. It can play odd angles and is still threatening for some 1v1s while being able to stall and take resources. The bomb gives it necessary combo potential and poke but the special is the main one. Similar to Inkbrush it lets you stay alive and annoy behind enemy lines but also get a shield back. If the main weapon were a tad better I honestly think this would be a good pick and it's still not bad. Kensa Undecover aka Kunder: They made it a support. Cheaper sub is nice but I prefer splat bomb. Armor is clearly amazing with the shield regen. This used to be the best undercover and now is around tied with sorella or slightly better. It was really good against slow weapons when those were good. Personally despite having over a million on kunder I've only grown less of a fun. I don't see undercover as something made to be a support, and would prefer a brand new brella built around being a traditional support with a shield. Still fun just I wish they tried to make sorella and the main weapon better rather then a specialized support kit. Very curious if Splatoon 3 takes this to be a support or a slayer since we don't know much about it yet.

Vanilla undercover is definitely considered the worst kit among the community. The reason for this is because it has a deployable sub even though it's a frontline and splashdown is basically a suicide button at higher levels as it's so slow and easy to hit without any defense. Vanilla undercover would be way better if they gave it burst bomb/autobomb and gave splashdown more health and/or made it faster and harder to hit

It's my favorite kit, and my main weapon. As much as everyone else does seem to dislike the standard kit, I honestly feel that comes from not being very creative. Sure ink mines need to be deployed, but they are basically explosive point sensors that you can just leave around the place to get intel on where the other team is and what they are doing without needing to pop the map open, and the splashdown might be slow, but it's hard to deal with it when it's being using right on top of you, and the shield lets you get close enough to basically drop it right on the head of your target. Do wish it was a little tougher though, like maybe giving it the Booyah Bomb's armor and having it be as instant at getting it as the Booyah Bomb? Seeing as the Booyah Bomb is basically a ranged splashdown and all... Oh well, always Splatoon 3 to hope for a better version. (I am also kind of hoping if Splatoon 3 has Beakons that the Undercover gets a set that has them, it feels like the perfect weapon to get them but Nintendo just never gave it to them.)

An added thing regarding the ethernet adapter-- This was an issue as far back as the Wii, which ALSO featured the era of online gaming but had no ethernet port (but it DID feature USB ports), so there's an ethernet adapter for the Wii. This happened _again_ on the Wii U. I mention this because, if you happened to get an adapter for either of those consoles (Splatoon 1 players, you know what it is), you can plug _that_ into your Switch! I bought an adapter for my Wii U for Splatoon... and didn't even buy one for the Wii U. I bought a Wii adapter... and I am still using that one for my Switch. It's a big relief to have wired connections!

I remember when I was able to keep the enemy team at their base with the Undercover Brella. Alone. Between the Ink Mines adding chip damage and letting me know their exact location while they were near me, the shield keeping me safe while I fired and built my special, and Splashdown getting so many kills and giving me a free reload, their entire team kept coming after me and they just couldn’t take me down.

I've had moments like that on Port Mackerel, start of the battle rush straight for one of the off shoots of the other teams spawn, and just settle in, because it's a narrow path it's really easy to defend and just the fact you are there will make people want to come fight you. I've had 20+ kill games in that corner, while never being killed. Good times. :3

so a funny thing about this weapon's design is that it is specifically a reference to the Kingsman's umbrella, which is also a defensive shield, offensive gun, and fancy af umbrella all rolled into one, and gets it's 'Undercover' naming simply out of the fact Kingsman is a sort of spy movie or series? idr which, but if you're a fan of this weapon and wanna see more of it in action, absolutely see the movie. it's a hoot, features equally questionably aged characters doing James Bond stuff like Agent 4 does in Splatoon 2 for the sake of their country, and is the source of inspiration for the Brella class as a whole, with the Undercover Brella being the most blatantly obvious due to it functioning the same way in game as it's movie inspiration. EDIT because i forgot the best feature of the movie counterpart that the Undercover Brella also has: the user can see through the entire umbrella portion of the weapon. it's probably THE defining feature both the Undercover Brella and Kingsman Umbrella both have going for it, is not only can you shoot and block with it, but with zero sacrifice of user visibility, something the Kensa version especially shows off imo.

So now that we're in the final world I wanna say something about the single player that I love that they changed from 1-2. We've been constantly moving downwards from world-to-world and now we're finally at the bottom of the canyon. Whereas in 1 you were moving upwards from world-to-world. It's a simple directional difference but the look of intimidation of all the purple ink that Cephalon HQ gives and finally seeing what lies at the bottom of the canyon is so cool. There's also the progression of time where in worlds 1-2 it was midday, 3-4 was evening and now it's finally nighttime. As well as the musical difference between each world adding to the song Yoshi's Island style. Love what they did with Octo Canyon in 2 so much! Anyway the Undercover Brella, where you attack whilst literally under cover.

That short stretch (21:28 - 21:50) where Chugga was just holding the shield while standing on the tower blocked everything was awesome. It looked like the enemy was literally throwing everything they had at just a brick wall. There were explosions going off on all sides, shots flying from all angles, and he was just tanking it all. Also, in that second match, every single opponent had Booyah Bombs as their special. No wonder they were flying around the entire map.

Something you forgot to mention is don't open the brella shield while nobody is around. Instead of holding the shoot button, you can tap it. Tapping shoot allows you to move faster and therefore cover turf faster because you move slower while the shield is open. Also if your shield breaks, start tapping shoot so you can move faster and possibly avoid enemy shots.

great vid as always chugga! there are a couple things though i wondered if you might mention. firstly: i remember you said closer to the beginning of the LP that you weren't a fan of the sparkly ink in octo canyon? well, today's sunken scroll actually hints at an in-universe explanation for it, which i think is pretty neat! it's a specific design decision made by someone working with the octarians. secondly: this is kind of niche info, but another small weakness of the undercover brella is that it doesn't quite cover the full vertical hitbox of the inkling when jumping. this isn't usually a problem, but it means that some weapons (e.g. snipers) can kill you 'through' your shield by shooting at the very top of your head even when you have the shield active. iirc you work with ProChara on these videos, and i know he has some footage of this happening, so perhaps ask him about it? thirdly: very tiny typo in the gear recommendations; missing a J from the start of the ink resistance description thanks for all the content you make! splatoon 2 is my all time favourite game, so i'm super stoked about this series, and i hope i can be of at least a little help to you in making it the best it can possibly be :)

Ah. My second main. When I first played, I used Splat Dualies. When this came out, I mained the Sorella Brella and BOI did it do me good. I still remember a splatfest where I basically won us a match that we got spawn camped in by popping my baller and leading the ENTIRE ENEMY TEAM around, all the while humming the Benny Hill theme. I remember when I used to hate fighting undercover Brellas when the auto Regenerate shield thing was first added to the Game as Dualies main despite the fact that the Dapple Dualies can literally eat through the Undercover Brella’s shield in a matter of seconds even if the Undercover Brella User got a kill on one of my teammates. This is true when the Undercover Brella was first added into the game it did not have the auto shield regenerate feature upon getting an assist or Kill if my memory serves correctly.

Phew, I'm a bit relieved; the vanilla Undercover Brella is actually my favorite weapon in the game, despite being considered "the worst kit" for the "worst weapon". I think it has a really unique "area control" strategy it can pull off in Splat Zones and Tower Control with its Ink Mines (which in general I feel are very underrated subs). I made it to Rank X Splat Zones with this strategy, and it always annoyed me when people would trash the weapon left and right, even those who like the Kensa.

26:06 It doesnt matter too much, but this little aside is interesting to me because no, inklings and octolings cannot die if the are in a position where they're about to be crushed I've learned firsthand that if it looks like that's gonna happen, it won't, rather they would get pushed through the wall. This glitch is still possible on some hero mode stages (and I accidentally discovered one on an OE stage, but I have no idea how to replicate it), but it's been rectified in tower control so the tower's path never comes close to a wall so people can do that. I believe it's still possible in some stages, but it's definitely possible in hero mode, and maybe in octo expansion on the tower control levels? Depends on what those paths are like

Yo, I used to main the Vanilla Undercover because I missed my Aerospray RG with Ink Mines so much! It looking like a bat and fitting aggressive play was a bonus. Never did get used to Splashdown, though. I appreciate Main Power Up's ability to assist with shield regen, but I've never run it myself before. Eventually I dropped the sleek Brella in favor of the Aerospray PG. Kensa Undercover's got a lot of fans though, and the Ink Armor plus Brella is SUCH a nice combo. I may try to pick it up and work on some Torpedo jank, a support role sounds fun!

my experience with cracks as a low s+ player is that every 2 losses is one crack, early DC on team does not count as a loss, self DC DOES count as a loss. (ive ranked down to a dead battery before.) Ive played enough full rotations at a time to just naturally pick up that info, though i cant speak if cracks get more or less frequent as ranks change. Where i stand, it is an 8 loss "streak" without 4-5 wins (depending on knockouts).

Watching you play Undercover Brella really makes me wish I hadn't sold my copy of Spla2n in order to get a bit of cash for Splatoon 3, because this weapon used to be my main! Loved the tankiness of the weapon and being able to pressure while also being a lightweight, able to duck and dodge a bit more; and c'mon, you feel like a Kingsman using it. The Ink Mine set was my go to; defense and covering my back, keeping Splat Zones painted just a little more, occasionally using it to revenge kill...but the Torpedo combination on the Kensa was _great_. Can't wait for a potential return in 3.

There was also a rather infamous bug in versions leading up to the release of this, where Brellas could shoot and shield simultaneously. It was EXTREMELY strong, and is thought to have inspired the Undercover.

Regarding wired internet, Chugga is absolutely, 110% correct. This isn't exactly Splatoon but it's similar; when I first got Guilty Gear Strive, I was super excited to play it because I'd heard the online for it was amazing. Then I started playing matches and it was unplayable, the game had to pause like every few seconds to catch up and as a result, nobody ever wanted to play with me more than once. Fast forward to me getting a wired connection, and now all my online matches are indistinguishable from local matches. That's how big a difference playing online games over ethernet can be.

Undercover umbbrella is easily my favorite weapon, and my main. The vanilla is my personal favorite of the sets, but the other ones are fun if I wanna mix it up a bit. The elarning curve is a bit steep for the weapon, but overall it's amazing once you get it own

Base undercover brella is my favorite, I just really enjoy having a good defense option in mines to cover my back while I stall the front. It also slows down pursuers if my push fails.

I’m a main of the kensa undercover, and MAN I was sweating this whole time, waiting for my main to get roasted… but you absolutely did it justice! it’s an awesome weapon, and while it takes a lot of time to master, it’s a fun one to play! i even broke X tank in SZ with the Vanilla Undercover. I feel like a lot of people brush it off when it has a lot of potential to be an absolute nuisance >:)
