To think of all the trips we make where we get back to the dock and just brine up the cigar minnows! We fish live bottom like you and never mess around with the kings. There are a ton of fish dip recipes on KZbin. If you don't have a smoker just sprinkle some liquid smoke to your taste and away you go. That was a fun video especially from the 16 minute mark on.

I'm sure you know this, but the stinger rig with two hooks will cut down on them chopping off the back half of your bait.
